I'm installing the latest K-lite mega codec pack, but it's not that good. I need support for real/qt and like the fact that they can play inn WMP10.
Is there any better codec packs or is it best to install one by one codec?

umm K-lite mega codec pack does contain the codecs needed to play Qt and RM files, if not use the media player of the gods, namely VLC

VLC Player
Its a stand alone player that has its own codecs built in it plays ANYTHING you throw at it

these codec packs are a pain. i've had trouble with many of them, especially when encoding. i've used the XP Codec Pack, ffDshow, WM10Lite, xVID, etc.. now i'm back to using the K-Lite FULL (not MEGA) pack which has recently been updated. this allowed me to uninstall ALL other codec packs and seems to be working well... so far.

Try Storm Codec 5. It has all the codec you'll ever need.

i dont do any encoding but the k-lite mega codec pack works great. very rarely though, qt files will display green instead of the video and a simple restart of media player classic will get them working again.

Try
Satsuki Decoder Pack. I used to have k-lite pack but this one is smaller, he plays everything (qt,rm,avi,mkv,etc...), and doesn't use codecs, only filters.

This sounds like a good one; thank you. I am wondering if I get this or another decoder pack installed, do I need the application (qt / real) installed for the webbrowser to be able to do the streaming movies for quicktime and realplayer?

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htmWell, I had been using ffdshow for some time now. I am confused with all this other talk. I downloaded the one that was above mentioned on the foreign site, but the file was corrupt. I am trying to do a WPI cd, and I want to make sure not to leave any importance out. What's the
real deal on these codecs? Thanks

CodecPack AllinOne v6027
These guys make a tight codec pack.
However, this new version has a donation dialog box in the set up routine, yuK, tacky.
ANybOdy got info on SILENT install? (tried the usual switches, nada)

K-Lite Codec Pack imo is the best one out currently. although personally i dont use it anymore because VLC is just so much better than any codec pack.

I don't use any codecpack... use only Ffdshow and can play anything.
Ffdshow is not a codec or a codecpack, it is a filter, therefore, no useless files are installed (like xvid decoder AND divx decoder AND 3ivx decoder... all just mpeg4 decoders... ffdshow plays it all being just a filter).
Also no ac3 decoder needed..
You can find more info and download here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htmCurrently there are 2 builds, a stable good one and an unstable one (like beta), the 'beta' one I don't have a link for.. this link is all about the normal version.

I mean think about the size
If I use K-lite Mega codec (24 Mbs) from the start, it maybe better than using 3 softwares (ffdshow 3.7 Mbs + Real alt 6.25 MBs + QT alt 10 MBs = Total 21 MBs! so it doesn't make sense
for extra 3 MBs in Mega Codec you get:
BSplayer
vobsub
many other stuff which I can't remember

The codec pack does not contain the most updated codecs though, like ffdshow, QT/real al, divx ++

I think the latest beta of the k-lite mega codec pack has all the latest codecs...
I believe they keep them up-to-date.
K-lite mega codec pack is my favorite anyway, I especially like the easy way to created a switchless installer for it.

Run the setup with the command-line parameter -MakeUnattended to create an unattended setup.
