is there any program that can convert avi(divx/xvid encode) to dvd format so that the output file can remain about the same size as the original?
for example, i have a 300mb avi file, the birate is about 2500kpbs, and when i try to convert it to dvd format, it gave me a 1Gb+ mpeg2 file, with about 8000-9000kbps. I think it's a waste of space that a 2500kpbs picture will never have the quality as 8000kpbs.

simple answer, No. the best way of doing things nowdays is to look around or online for a dvd player that can play divx/xvid files. then u can cram a couple of movies onto 1 single 4.7gb dvd disk.

I use DVD2SVCD (you can change the mode when you set up) Its got a section to set your minimum and maximum bitrate, so that should work.

I found out that WinAVI 7.* is a really good avi to dvd and viceversa program.
