If you are using IE6SP1 under Win98SE and did all the security updates, you may face a problem that I experience, i.e., if you try to delete all the contents of a folder with many files in Windows Explorer, then it will end up with Explorer Not Responding where you can get around it by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and End Task, or wait many minutes until Windows Explorer is back to live.
You can simulate that problem e.g., by copying (not moving!!) WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder, mine with 1,550 files, into say TEMP\SYSTEM folder, then select ALL the contents of TEMP\SYSTEM folder, right-click, press SHIFT key and click Delete in the drop down menu, so that it shall delete the files right away, not move them to Recycle Bin.
We can work around that problem by replacing following two System files with those taken from IE5.5:
browselc.dll
browseui.dll
But I don't know whether the security will not be compromized.
Has anyone a better solution to that problem?
