Program a start menu with XP look and feel.

Guys can you plz recommend really good square skin?
I don't care if it for XP, WB or something else. I really need a good inspiration!

This is ~ how new 'Square' skin will look.

Old 'Royalecolor' will be also available.
There is a lot of improvements over old RP4 LameSkin engine (its almost rewrited from scratch).
RP Lite Vi is going to be available somewhere around next Vista build.

I know you can't please verybody and I'm sorry to say that, but... I don't like it.

If possible, keep the old LameSkin color theme, it's more vivid. Otherwise - and it would be more preferrable but I have no idea how possible - offer a few color theme choices, either at install time or in Desktop Settings. Especially the titlebar color theme is the one disturbing me.

What I could recommend as a source of inspiration, somehow, would be some of the skins found in my browser of choice, SlimBrowser. I find the following quite interesting: SaborBlue, SaborGold, Knotty, Psychaedelic Purple (currently using it), Blue Glass, Aqua.

Again, sorry for the blunt criticism - I just stated my personal opinion. I hope the suggestions would be useful.

How hard would it be for us to create our own skins? Is it like WinXP's approach to theme resources, or is it all integrated into an exe file that would need resource-editing to get another skin?

Also, would the LameSkin engine work on Windows 2000? Does it hook into explorer, or modify EXE's?

go into dos mode then type restore and it should restore to before installing revpack V lite i would suggest try revpack 4 lite

Is it OK to include the older releases of RP in the upcoming Win9x Power Pack? I've rar'd up v3.0, 3.6, and 4.0rc. They total about 10mb. I've only got them for nostalgic purposes.

Edit: I've also re-packed rplite5.exe so that when you click on it, it extracts to a temp directory, and runs the setup file. I've uploaded that file here: http://rapidshare.de/files/25253643/RPLite5.exe

I use this method of packing files so that you don't have to extract it to a temp directory, browse to that directory, then run the setup. It cuts out a lot of time and worry for the end-user. I use it a LOT in my compilation, BHT (http://bht.jimmsta.com/), which will have portions of itself in Win9xPPv4.

Can you please calm down and write which version of RP[Lite] have you installed?
If web view / Control Panel problems are the only you're expiriencing, try turning off web view.
Then open Run dialog and type: regsvr32 webvw.dll and click OK.


RP [Lite] is not intended for users which aren't able extract and run setup.exe themselves. (There is also useful command line switches for it).

It's like WindowBlinds - all bitmaps in one folder and ini file.
I hope sometime everything will work for 2000 too.

Installation
Copy '\Resources' to '%windir%\Resources'.

Double-click 'themes.reg'

Using
Go to Display Properties - Appearance. You'll notice 2 new schemes: 'Royale' and 'Square'. (They're not hardcoded, names just must match folder names in %windir%\Resources.)
When you apply them, skinning will turn on. If you apply other schemes, skinning will turn off.
Feel free to edit scheme colors and other settings.

Uninstallation
Delete lameskin.dll from %windir%\system.

Anybody around that can help me......I was on last nite. all the uninstall info for RPLite invovlves going into dos from start/shutdown, my start/shutdown is not working since i installed Revolution I also cant reinstall my windows SE because my CD and DVD are no longer recognized since Rev was installed. I hate this program. PLEASE HELP!!!

ived tryed every rp version and thou ived had the odd glitch with greyed out button etc ived never had anything that i couldnt fix maybe u installed 2 different versions of rp or 98se2me etc id suggest format c: and try again and note the order u install packages and party on dude.

Do you have a Boot diskette, try from A:\ drive to get to dos, then C:\restore or wharever your drive letter is.

Have you forgotten about F8 (immediately after POST) --> Command prompt only ? That should work at any time.

If you can't fix it and can't access your optical drives from within Windows, try booting with a boot diskette or a 98/ME bootable CD (ME is preferrable), then [if 98 CD is not in, insert it into optical drive and] type cd <optical drive letter>, then type setup and hit ENTER.

Tihiy, would it be possible to use PNGs instead of BMPs, anytime soon? By using GDI+, maybe? We're using 24bit and 32bit PNGs (without alpha channel, in Win9x) in Miranda IM, for skinning, and they seem to work OK.
BTW, the fact that we can create our own themes for the LameSkin engine is really great news. Now possibilities are (almost) endless. Thank you very much.

Okay I need help in the middle of installing rplite V a dos box pops up and says

Drive C sharing violation
abort? retry? fail?

I've tried all 3 options but setup ends and says can't continue extraction failed.
Ive tried this on 3 different PCs

But then I install rplite with no winme cd checked and it works fine. there is nothing wrong with my ME disk being it installed fine on my test rig but I don't know what else to do.

Maybe if i extracted the needed files and copied tthem to rplite V it would work but I dont know which exact files are needed.

also the logo is not working as in it just dosen't install at all.
and one more problem the browseui.dll patch scramples my toolbars instead of make them better and I used to fix this through RPconfig.exe but now the option isn't there is it possible to fix it?

Oh and for the other half of RP I've seen yet, great job tihiy!

Minor bugfixes:
- Sharing violation problem could rise while backup. [It really did not affect installation]
- 'Separator' on Taskbar was not removed until 'TasbarSeparators' were set to 0.
Not So Major bugfixes:
- IE6 detection didn't worked really.
- Toolbars weren't patched properly (browseui.dll patch was for Russian version)
Aside from that, i'm glad that other RPLite5 functions worked well for me on fresh install. Even restoring was very good.

So. How to upgrade:
- Download either only updated files

Therefore, I requested to remove align snap-grid. Because, This is default in RPLite Users files. Whatever is there solution? I can making to change hex codes(Which codes of file?). I hope, correct tell to problem.

I haven't tested RPLite 5 without Shell Update well, but anyway then right-click desktop and select 'Line up Icons' to uncheck. Try same again.

Again, Thanks for your suggestions. I arrenge to icons with PC Magazine WinTidy v2.0(WinTidy download). I upgrade to RPLite 5 User files(Copy to windows\system). Icons order to untidy. Unfortunetaly "Line up Icons" no works. Still still, align-snap active and Wintidy not correct running. But RPLite 4 User files has no problem... My english bad; therefore I present to screenshots:

i found it rather interesting that you put start new program back into the C-A-D Dialog when you had previously removed it in the update for rplite 4

RPLite 5 site is back ftagn.
Then you can delete SHLDLL.DLL from \windows\system. That will work for 100%. I'll try to fix this issue later.
As for i'm certainly planning some CPU/Memory and perfomance monitoring, but it won't ever duplicate Ctrl-Alt-Del dialog functionality, sorry

I've translated in italian language setup interface (setup.exe) with resource hacker all texts, system locale included (1033>1040), all ok, but when I go over request of winMe cd (I've file warez in the directory) I select all options except system update.
When I click "install" there is an error message:

"critical error during external program esecution".

Please can you help me?

This message [it is the only non-localizable message ] appears then some executable failed to start.
What can fail to start?
- extrac32.exe - this file must be somewhere in your %path%.
- rundll32.exe - this file you must have too!
- browseui.exe - this may be the failer. it must be in [where setup.exe]\Toolbar.
- backup.bat and restore.bat - must be in every folder
Also you can expirience such issue if you're trying to run setup.exe from directory which path contains non-English characters.

Previously, i've used ResPatcher technology from Restorator. But it requires file to be patched to be the same version, language, etc. Plus it squeaks and consumes some space.
Now, i've writed own resource replacement engine, which can patch different browseui.dll versions/languages.
String #9 is now pointing also to browseui.dll locale expected.
Bitmaps to be replaced are now .bmp files in .\Toolbar folder. Feel free to edit them.

To make this happen:
launch 'setup.exe /noinstall /nobackup /noreboot'.
Select all components. Provide path to English ME CD files.
Wait until completion. Navigate to '%temp%\RPTemp'.
You'll find there extracted & patched files. Copy them back to \Shell and \Applets folders.

Then localize.
Must work.

I have also sysdm.cpl 4.10.2224 available here, however CPU INFO is missing this update fixes also visual bugs when managing Swap Files.

The problem is when using this older file in combination with Windows 98 SE Service Pack that the visual effects won't get applied or do they?

I've applied Petr fix for visual bugs when managing Swap Files for 4.10.2222.
I've used version 4.10.2222 because there was difficulties with resource changing with it. ExeScope won't suit me, and Resource Workshop 4.5 crashes on original file. But i had Russian 4.10.2222 version which didn't crash.
So, by comparing differencies and hexing, i was able to open it. I wasn't able to do same trick with 4.10.2224 versions.

If it has the 4.10.2224 patches included why don't you name it 4.10.2224. Than you wouldn't have problems in combination with the Unofficial Windows 98SE Service Pack.

4.10.2224 is completely different version to 4.10.2222, there are many other changes than the wrong display of free space on the swap drive.

I really don't think that it would be good idea to have two very different versions with the same version number. I think that either the original version number should be changed to something like 4.10.2222a or 4.10.2222 (modified) in string version number and 4.10.0.2222 in binary version number, or to change the version number 4.10.2223/4.10.0.2223. There is again conflict with real 4.10.2223 version, but nobody has ever seen it so the confusion should not arise.

He's right in one scenario: when installing uSP over RPLite, sysdm.cpl 4.10.2222 will be replaced by newer 4.10.2224. So better for me to mark sysdm.cpl as 4.10.2225 or even higher.

The sysdm.cpl in the new uSP should be changed too, of course.

But you are right that the current uSP 2.1 would overwrite your file.
