Or maybe not, I don't know. I suppose there sould some consensus what version is the best, whether official 4.10.2224 or modified 4.10.2222. And this one should be used both in uSP and RP. I see no reason for using different version.

There is one point against 4.10.2225 version - all Microsoft hotfixes are (or at least are claimed to be) cummulative, it means that hotfix with higher version number should contains all changes form the hotfix with lower number.

What's about installing without the ME shell replacement update?

Your program says it's not recommend? Is it just a friendly reminder about the missing Shell functionality you put in or can we expect broken OS?

I never tested your Revolutions Pack since it was english only. Now since I'm able to translate it to dutch I'm looking forward to using it smile.gif

Another question. With your new patcher are you able to patch different file versions? If so than can you drop the Unofficial Windows 98SE Service Pack dependancy???

Also a bug. This was under XP and I can continue installation!

(nice for translators to see the result directly, however I think it should be removed from further versions, or make a commandswitch "/nochecks" or likewise)

That's because most functionality changes are in Shell Update. It should install fine without it, but i haven't tested that case a lot.

I really don't think so. Really, dependecies are:
- MSVBVM60.DLL (VB6 VM)
- UNICOWS.DLL (resource patch routines)
- KERNEL32.DLL 4.10.2225
Now USP2 is checked by file \windows\system\precopy\sp2.cab.

This is a default behavior. System checks do not block installation.
'Next' button is enabled after you re-type what is in confirmation window, or after 30 sec for those who can't type but can read and have patience.
Under 2k/XP, you really can't damage system because of SFP and Certificate checks.

Thank you for solution. I did deleted shldll.dll file. So, fixed icon untidy. Again, thanks.

I detected a small bug more. The truth of the matter is important very not. smile.gif

USER.exe parameters don't windows restared. Command-line(shortcut):
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE user.exe,exitwindowsexec

Sincerely...

Well, AFAIK, the restart command looks something like this, in 98SE:
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 2

Just for completeness reasons, the shutdown command is:
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 1

I have the above commands as shortcuts on my quicklaunch bar and they both work fine.
Max_04
Tihiy, I've sended pm.

Here there is control panel installed successfully:

He meant this command, which is available in all 9x OSes:

%windir%\RUNDLL.EXE %windir%\SYSTEM\USER.EXE,ExitWindowsExec

Just installed Win98SE unofficial Service Pack and then installed the Revolutions Pack on a clean install of 98SE. The changes are great and installation was easy as anything thumbup.gif . Everything seems to be o.k. and working except the icons are now all pixelated wacko.gif . I have tried changing resolutions with no effect. I am using an Intel integrated graphics chip with the newest drivers. Any help to fix this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. newwink.gif

Thanks Drugwash and MDGx.

"C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 2" only reboot(CTRL-ALT-DEL like).

"C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE c:\windows\SYSTEM\USER.EXE,ExitWindowsExec" restarted to windows.

Again, thanks.

you dont need another screenshot, you can notice it in max_04 post (the attachment with the italian control panel)

ive not tested it personally, its a funny story: i had to download IE6 (was using 5.5), then got the RPL6 preview, then burnt all the stuff on a cd to carry to my w98 computer (no connections of any kind in there), i had to fill the rest of the cd with music to not leave it with only 6% used, then installed IE6, restarted, and when i was about to install RPL V: OH F****** **** i forgot to download RPLite 5 thumbup.gif
Drugwash
MDGx, personally I try to avoid as much as possible the warm reboots, simply because for some reason (some tweaks that I make to the OS), any such attempt will only leave me staring at a black screen like forever. That is why I recommended the cold reboot; it just plays it safer. Thing is, it has to be tweaked according to each OS version, which is a drawback.

Thanks for the replys guys, but what happened in Max_04 post is not what im talking about. Unfortunately I will have to explain as the system I installed this in has no network card and I can't get my USB flash drive to work to get a screenshot off the system. All of the replaced icons on the desktop and throughout the system are pixelated. It almost looks like the resolution is wrong, but it's not. confused.gif I tried to change icon size like you said Tihiy, but that did not work either.

Do the icons habe a bad quality or are they really pixelated? I installed RP on my Laptop with Win98se german and my icons color changed to 16 colors. I openned my display settings and maked a mark next to something like "Display icons with maximal colors" and it worked.

The quality of the icons is really bad. They look splotchy and discolored. I looked for the setting you are talking about in display properties, but was unable to find it.

Doug, in Display- Effects tab, bottom ckboxes, should be 1 says "Show Icons in all possible colors", make sure it has ckmark in it.

Run rpconfig.exe and check (uncheck) "32-bit icons" flag. Then relogon.

I've noticed that your toolbar icons are messed up.
To fix this, reinstall RPLite5 latest version [with Toolbar Update], but change string 9 in setup.exe with your browseui.dll locale.
To find what your locale is, open browseui.dll in ResHacker and open "Version Info":

RPLite5 English requires English ME CD!
And it is incredibly naive to replace normal comdlg32.dll with zero-byte length comdlg32.dll.
I need to improve noob protection. wacko.gif
Tihiy

Hooray! Now we can skin comboboxes and comboboxexes.
Just fix one disgusting bug and LameSkin is ready for RPLite 6!
Drugwash
That's great! welcome.gif

Well, now that you posted that screenshot, it reminded me of the confusion I had when I opened that dialog after my first RP install with LameSkin. I needed to make some changes to the theme, but looking at the preview window and seeing the titlebars looking so annoyingly normal as in an ordinary Windows, I was afraid to change and apply anything, thinking the LameSkin would be ruined and the titlebars will go back to the ugly, dull look. blushing.gif

So my question is: would it be possible for the preview to show the real look of the titlebars and all other skinned elements, to avoid any such confusion? It would be really great.

Thank you for all your work so far! thumbup.gif

Well, it is possible to show skinned titlebars in that preview, or replace entire preview by static screenshot, but i'm not sure if that is the right thing

There was some starting on this, but was cancelled like Web View replacement.
Too heavy.
Drugwash
Nah, not static screenshot, that wouldn't be convenient. The preview is quite useful to see how the theme would look before applying any change, and that's precisely why I asked for it to reflect the reality as much as possible. If I decide to enlarge or shrink the titlebars or scrollbars or change any other elements, I would like to see my changes in the preview, before completely screwing up my environment. biggrin.gif

Well, I said what I had to say; you think about it and do whatever you can and see fit. newwink.gif

Acheron
Tihiy, why didn't you include Taskmanager in Revolutions Pack V Lite?

Can you create a new shortkey to lock the computer (WIN+L)?

Also a bug found. When trying to unlock the computer entering wrong password multiple times there is build up a time gap before the system continues.
However when you successfully logon eventually, when you lock the computer again, the time delay is not set to 0. So you have to wait first before you can unlock.

I would like to have the Shutdown options window to show up in CTRL-ALT-DEL menu when I choose Shutdown... Not just power off the system.

EDIT: I also found when you select to change password in CTRL-ALT-DEL menu you are not taken back to it after changing your password.

In stead of the Time system is running I would like to see the Logon Data like in Windows XP.

Thats the criticism for now. You have already done a great job. I hope you get the toolbars ligned up right for Revolutions Pack 6 (Bar seperators not applied to custom Quick Launch and other bars)

conlock.mod is used to lock computer. It is a built-in 9x program, not mine.

It's more useful to me to know when I started Windows then how long my system is running. Or you could make a setting for it in registry what display to be used.

Shutdown.exe is only installed with the SHELL update. So I would like it if you called SHShutDownDialog Windows API function when Shell Update is not installed.

SHShutDownDialog
That's impossible due to current RPLite 5 shutdown implementation.

Just a heads up, I took the latest re-release, and updated the sysprops.dll file. I included this updated package in the W9xPP v4.1 patch, which is now available all over the web... (SoftPedia, MajorGeeks, various other sites I've never gone to).

If you look carefully at some tools included you find offensive text also.

Like "What the heck do you mean?" in Shutdown.exe and "omfg" as Manufacturer name. I think this offensive language use should get removed from it.

I have already polished up Dutch version with better translation.

Sorry for calling you using offensive language. Your revolutions pack just have some sharp edges you may need to pull off before using it in a production environment.

With Revolutions Pack in combination with Unofficial Windows 98SE SP you can really get the XP(erienced) smile.gif
