I tried it on my virtual pc installation.

I do had windows 98 english version, but
I did not have english Windows ME disk,
so I used my japanese Windows ME disk.

It went ok til boot screen. ( It's beautiful )

and I got the error which is shown in attached image.

the textbox saying following:

MPREXE caused an invalid page fault in
module MPRSERV.DLL at 0167:7fa161ec.

To fix this, i think i will be enough if you'll replace mpr.dll in %windir%\system with mpr.dll from ME CD.
I'll explain how to 'RPLite ni Yokoso' later.
nakaiy
Thanks Tihiy for advice.
can't find mpr.dll of Win ME, so I replaced with XP one.
It displays error message as it cannot find ntdll.dll something like that, but ok for now.

During first boot
( actually not very first because error with mprexe.exe prevent further installation of RP)
It displayed bunch of error messages with "Windows Update" popup title.
listing follows.

----error message list begin-----
An error has occurred while setting up
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\shdocvw.dll", This error has been logged,
the installation will continue

An error has occurred while setting up
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\webvw.dll", This error has been logged,
the installation will continue

An error occurred loading "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\docprop2.dll".
The file may not have been installed or it has been corrupted.

An error occurred loading "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\netplwiz.dll".
The file may not have been installed or it has been corrupted.

----error message list end----

and an error with "Run DLL" in title saying:

"powrprof.dll: The system cannot open the file."

I'd say 70% sure it is caused by Japanese WinME files.

now, I have Desktop with nice icons.
In System Language Setting, I noticed that there is no Japanese entry there.
It happens when I don't install Asian Lang. support on Windows XP also.

Since Asian Lang. support installs about 300MB of files in Windows XP, I'm afraid
it is going to be a large amount of work to add Asian ( or Japanese ) Lang. support
in RP...

What do you think?

I'm going to play with it further.
Regards,

PS: Japanese text is not showing afterwards... sad.gif

I meant my Win ME CD is upgrade version, so I imported the dll from the host computer...
Is it bad thing to do.. ? unsure.gif

It is bad thing to mix Win9x and WinNT files.

It should be in WIN_15.CAB I suppose.

Some questions.

It is possible to localize:

1) alert message that says:

To install Revolution Pack 6 you must install Microsoft Family Logon first etc... ??

No, this message will be removed with next version.

why did microsoft family logon need to be installed?

Well, because it provides mechanism that allows to act mprexe.exe as LameSkin server.
It will be changed [i hope] in RPLite 7.

Yes, it is VMWare 5.5 problem. Disable VMWareService.exe from startup.

Well, there is a simple rule in RPLite as in any beta software: if something is not translated, not modernized or left in buggy state then it is a subject to change in future releases.
To translate web view, you must open webvw.dll in Restorator and edit strings in htt files inside it (use webvw.dll from ME as reference, i'll also recommend to turn off web view to be able to replace webvw.dll). Then regsvr32 it.

Thanks. This fixes some problems I experienced. Here some problems:

Internet Explorer 6 disabled buttons look ugly

Border window not painted in Windows Help 16-bit/32-bit

Border window not painted in Open with... window

English string in dialog window

English string in taskbar properties window (Lock /Unlock)

Windows Setup Components English. Also wizards within are english

Windows Setup Components English. Also wizards within are english

Windows Setup Components English. Also wizards within are english

Too much space between buttons in Uninstall dialog.

And finally: Custom Explorer Side panes are English

Other bugs:
- Sysprops.dll not registered in Windows. Have to manually force regsvr32 sysprops.dll
- Software uninstall program and rpconfig won't start without manually copy msvbvm60.dll to Windows\System directory, altough I put MSVBVM60.dll in the RPLite6PP setup folder.

Overall this version is better and more stable. Also memory usage is down. Keep up the good work.

Well, that's what you need to translate yourself. How can I translate new strings?
That must be done for new strings in: explorer.exe, plustab.dll, rasapi32.dll, rnaapp.exe, rnaui.dll.
Webvw.dll will be dumped with RPLite7, i hope.

Well, 1st bug because of 2nd: msvbvm60.dll IS MEANT TO BE in Windows\System and not in setup folder.
However, in future builds i'll check for this.
Acheron
I have found the English strings for the taskbar and display effects. I have attached file with lines to change for Dutch version.

However I'm unable to find where the Windows Setup Component resources are located.

UPDATE: The glitch with the Open width.. screen doesn't occur when I don't use the webvw.dll

good news: tried installing the updated RPPack 6++ and it worked.

bad news: I've got some complaints:

- The updated Add/Remove Programs Applet does not have the "Safe Program Installation" and "Program cleanup" features stated in the readme.

- The new start and taskbar looks kinda weird for me:

how can I fix this?

Here's what is looks like:

Ki-id! You need to cool down and eat some fish.

"Safe Program Installation": press "Install New Program".

"Program cleanup": When you use Remove or Change/Remove button, it checks if program uninstaller can be located. ONLY then or if uninstaller exited & entry was not removed you're presented with "Cleanup" option.
Ambassador
Oh I see, I misunderstood what you meant in the readme.

I thought you were talking about a CCleaner kinda thing.

Sorry for the confusion.

One more thing, is it possible to switch the loading screen back to the 6+ one?
Acheron
Tihiy, what about the bootloader, io.sys?

I have here translated io.sys as included with Dutch Unofficial Windows98SE SP 2.0.3. Although filesize is different it does work with the new animated bootlogo.
Remember that the downloads at Microsoft site: Q311561 are not localized!

P.S. What about that MS-DOS driveletter fix? See http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...;p=346336&#

As it seems no special io.sys isn't necessary to display the new bootlogo? So why don't you just remove the io.sys from the Revolutions Pack?

Well, io.sys is kinda unique in RPLite because it also contains font loading rountines (which allows to use Cyrillic characters in boot menu, for example).
Other than that, it also contains WIN.COM string changed to WLL.COM, that's all.
Maybe there is a better way [for example, rename WLL.COM to WIN.COM and WIN.COM to WON.COM, dunno].
I'm not sure about driveletters fix.
dtamonis
I would like to install the pack in hope to run Google Earth, but there seems to be an issue. In the first screen, I get exclamation mark next to "Windows" (probably the installation thinks I'm not using 98SE? see below):

Then, in the next screen, I'm asked to point to WinME files. But I'm on 98SE, tried to point to 98SE cabs anyway, but it said there were no ME files.

So, here I'm lost. Maybe it's something very obvious and already discussed, but I won't manage now to read all 40 pages of this thread, and searching for string "ME" returns too many occurencies (like MEmber titles under avatars). What should I do or check?
glocK_94
Check RPlite's site or look at the readme included. If you don't have WinME just quote the "no WinME" box. Anyway, this won't make Google earth work. Check the KUP thread for that.
Tihiy
Here is small optional fix for LameSkin for RPLite 6++:
it fixes bug mentioned by hp38guser where Help windows don't repaint inner borders correctly.
[WS_EX_CLIENTEDGE style is not correctly processed]
I think it was last major [but rare] LameBug.

It is a last build from RPLite6 branch.
Next coming: terrible RPLite7 alphas.

The biggest problem is not only the english boot menu, also the input locale is not set right. I'm asked for example by dos programs fdisk.exe and format.com to input J/N. However only entering Y/N works with Revolutions Pack installed.
About WLL.com. You don't need to specify WLL.com in io.sys to let the new boot screen to display. I don't know why I need Cyrillic support in English / Dutch version either. So better remove the whole WLL.com thing.

You're right only if autoexec.bat exists / we're starting not in safe mode.

I'll rethink this thing in next release and i'll probably get rid of io.sys/command.com replaced.
I'll push them into something else.

Edit: khm, no. I can't get rid of them because if i use wll.com, then i have to make sure standard logo won't ever be displayed.
So better send me your localized io.syses.
Or not. All of Q311561 are not localized? So what is wrong? Or i'm wrong? Time to sleep.

The reason I'm hammering this, and also reporting possible bugs is that I want eventually merge the Revolutions Pack within the Windows 98 Setup. So the less complicated the better. Also for easy uninstallation it would be best to leave the setup loader intact.

Q311561 is a dirty patch. Original Windows bootloader is localized. I have attached to my second last post a manually localized working Q311561 io.sys.
