Hi everyone!

I am trying to put AIO-DVD on an external HDD. To make the drive bootable, I made the HDD only one on a system then start XP setup and let it reboot, that gave me a bootable HDD with a XP boot image in the MBR.

Then I followed the guide on the AIO-DVD to create PRO1.DAT and added an entry into BOOT.INI. Now I get the Windows boot menu and when I choose PRO1 entry I get missing HAL.DLL.

Finally, the question is, does what I did make sense at all? rolleyes.gif
If it does, Where did I go wrong and what can I do?

Thanks.

if you are trying to put more than one OS one there, i dont think you need an XP boot image on the drive. try following his guide exactly and obtaining the boot folders, renaming them, deleting/editing files, chaining the image file, etc.... let us know how that works.

OK but how can one write an boot image to the MBR then
amd64lover
the AIO-DVD is booting from cdshell, which gives you an option of which operating system to start....

If you mean how do you put MBR BOOTABLE CODE into MBR, you can use:
FIXMBR from recovery console

or MBRFIX:

and, optionally, my pseudo GUI for it:
