I was looking at the whiners method. It seems almost too easy. Does this do more than remove IE?
Would it add dir x 9 and media player 9? If not I have a question will removing IE using the whiners method reduce boot times and memory usage?

hi DW, with this method, HFSLIP is not run. it is drag, drop, replace, burn bootable cd.
it's not recommended but only there to show people how easy it is if they want to only spend 30 seconds reading. you'll remove IE, get the memory and space benefits, but no DX9 or MP9.
for that, you have to do the full process. which i thought you had..?

I do but I had trouble with the media player and codec
saugatak
Dirt, don't worry about codecs and media player. It's nice to be able to HFSLIP 'em, but there's nothing wrong with downloading K-Lite pac and then just installing.

Also, if you put in the media player, you have to edit FDV's files and use an additional file provided by TommyP.

saugatak is right - there is some manual work should to be done with Media Player and codecs.
Maybe describe your problems and somebody can help with the instructions?

Got a question about DirX and media player. Should I remove the old files before upgrading? If so which ones?
Oleg_II
Didn't quite get you. If you are installing new DX and Media Player on a "clean system" they will delete some old files automatically. You have not even a choice of uninstalling them prior upgrading actually. Something doesn't work for you after installation?
dirtwarrior
OK lets say I am going to install/upgrade to DirX 9 and media player 9. I want to save a few mb on cd. Is there any old files from the old DidX and media player I should/could remove?
Oleg_II
"Save some mb on cd" - that's the point! tongue.gif
Deleting files manually - possible but not recommended if you don't know exactly what are you doing. If you don't want problems with your installation just don't delete anything. If you are using FDV's files your installation WILL be smaller then regular one smile.gif
At the moment you only can use nLite after HFSLIP. But there'd probably be another choice shortly newwink.gif

OK I will use this method instead of manually.
The part of this which may become confusing is it is actually 3 methods rolled into 1. Each 1 can be used seperatly of with other methods, if used with other ones then this must be changed. I really want to use all methods but become confused(easily done) But I did manage to get my comitt to less than 30 using this so I want to go further and modernize it with DirX 9 and media player 9. Eventually I will use the reactos shell in the cd to save some ram usage and a few other tweaks. Reactos shell has a few less features but saves a lot of comitt.
