Hi all

Just a note more than anything but I've just repackaged it using a silent switch and it works when you load it up for the first time [after a reboot that you choose hehe].

CODE
msiexec /qb /i "Microsoft AntiSpyware.msi" REBOOT=ReallySuppress

Use the above in a wrapper and it works lovely smile.gif

Run the downloaded setup file first of course to extract the files into a temp folder in your profile and you can then do the above smile.gif

Or if you cant be bothered, see my apps site [see sig] and get it from there smile.gif

EDIT: Get it from the green box on my site where it says "Latest ver from here >> Click me <<" as I havent time to fully update the page right now.

Cheers
Nath.

How can that work? The /qb needs to be after the msi filename.

31 December 2005 MS AntiSpyware will stop and do nothing anymore, you have to be upgraded to the new version which is called another name (a name like defender or something that).

i stay get in troubles to install this app and i remove it from WPI. (101 error). it is still a deathending way. (do i say it correctly?)

where is 701 build available ?

here ?? -http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en

still 615 build available.

Guys - have a bit of faith please lol

I meant to add the following to the first post but it was a quick job before going to the doctors hehe

On the latest software news list on the front page:

http://www.msfn.org/comments.php?shownews=15197

And a direct link to the MS page:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en

@MHz:

AFAIK It doesnt matter where the switches are really so long as the syntax is correct, besides, i wouldnt have posted the code above if it hadnt worked lol newwink.gif

@SolidasRock:

Its a new beta refresh - check the version number newwink.gif - and this one [AFAIK as it freshly installed for me] doesnt have the 101 problem (or need the workaround that i hear you could do with the older versions]

I think with the new version codenamed defender they have planed, they wont be releasing it anytime soon as this new beta doesnt run out until July 31st 2006.

ok. didn't know that... will give it a try smile.gif
BoardBabe
Do you no longer have to run the

CODE
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe /regserver
?
Nakatomi2010
So I run the install and grab the files that appear in the temp directory, then I can us 7zip to create a switchless installer using the line above, and the other bits of code, or am I missing something?
tarquel
@BoardBabe:

Quite right - at least, with the package i made, i didnt need to newwink.gif

If that was to start it after install, then yes, you may need to do it. This is what i tried:

- The above code installs the package.
- I then rebooted the machine and it loaded into the system tray on bootup into windows.
- When I double-clicked the desktop icon, it brought up the "wizard" that you get on first run
- after answering the questions, the main program loaded up fine with no errors.

Hope that clears it all up for you [and everyone]

@Nakatomi2010:

I use IExpress but yes, but all you need to install it is the code in my first post. The code that boardbabe mentions is no longer needed AFAIK [it wasnt when i tried it smile.gif]

I havent tried it on a UA XP CD - either thru actual install or thru VM - so I cant say 100%, but from what i tried i.e. getting rid of all traces of the old version then trying the new version [that i've packaged], it worked lovely and on loading, it never gave the 101 error of old smile.gif

Please let me know if it doesnt work when using it with a UA and let me know any messages you get smile.gif

Cheers
Nath.
BoardBabe
Excactly, the code i provided skips the initial wizard too newwink.gif
tarquel
ahhh lol there we go then smile.gif

I havent tried it with this version but if you've tried it [if ya havent, post back with the results] then we'll assume it's addable to the list.

You've got me thinking now hehe.... more on that to come newwink.gif newwink.gif

Cheers bb biggrin.gif

BoardBabe
Uhm, okey whistling.gif

Here's how I install it through WPI.

CODE
cmd1[pn]=['"%cdrom%\\PROGRAMVARE\\MSANTISPYWARE\\Microsoft AntiSpyware.msi" /qn']
cmd2[pn]=['"%PROGRAMFILES%\\Microsoft AntiSpyware\\gcasDtServ.exe" /regserver']

Works flawless. thumbup.gif

ahh... you dont use the exe which topicstarter have created... are there difference between your and his packet?i have give his exe a try and i see i have to click at the icon at desktop to get it working, but my problem is i cleanup my whole desktop so no .lnk will stay. do your way also need to click on a icon to get it working?

edit: do i need more than the msi, do i need the 3 ini files and a bmp file?

thanks for your fast reply btw

thumbup.gif
BoardBabe
No, you only need the .msi file.

My method seems to work flawless. You do not need to click any icon, and MS AntiSpyware runs as normal as a background service, also with icon in systray after final reboot (or first boot after installing). Why make it more complicated than it needs to be? newwink.gif

Only thing you might wan't to do is clean the shortcut's from start-menu an desktop, if you do not wish to keep those.
RogueSpear
I cleaned up the shortcuts by directly editing the .msi file and it works fine. The problem I am having is that the first time you run the app itself it wants to go through the wizard still. I can't seem to preset the options the way I would like (novice user and disable the script agent).

I've done the RegShot routine to get the registry changes, etc. Why do they need to make this thing needlessly difficult?
Avneet
@RogueSpear

where is the link to the setup file.. is it the same on eon the very first post ??
RogueSpear
I downloaded it from SoftPedia.

have you try boardbabe way to install it? i believe with her way you dont see the wizard...
RogueSpear
If you mean the whole /regserver thing, yes I've been doing that

I concur. Edit: Looks like the settings are held in a .gcd file called "gcUserData.gcd." When MSAntispy is uninstalled from a system, this file and eight (8) other .gcd files are left behind behind in the Microsoft AntiSpyware directory (so much for a clean uninstall). I noticed that when uninstalling the old version and then installing the new version--where the directory remnants remain in place--my settings where preserved. After experimenting with the nine .gcd files that are left behind, I found that I could 1) uninstall 2) delete the Microsoft AntiSpyware directory completely 3) reinstall 4) copy only the gcUserData.gcd file into the fresh install directory. Upon first launch, the setup walk-through is skipped and all of my settings are configured. Nice. Must test this on a clean install.
mickmack
yes. i noticed this too. tryed, but with no luck. maybe this is because i use addon that installs on 13 minute?
RogueSpear
I'm going to try some experimenting with those config files.. maybe see if I can shove it in my switchless installer. <sigh> Going through all this grief for something that's beta to begin with. I sure hope they don't make things even worse in the final release.
Avneet
yeah like ..u hav to buy it..hope it will be freee..

QUOTE

tongue.gif Yeah, I believe this was a somewhat costly program before Microsoft bought it and started giving it away to save all of those Windows boxes from the closet.

Update: I can confirm that copying the lone gcUserData.gcd file to the Microsoft AntiSpyware directory worked for me on a fresh install. Very nice. Picking up on BoardBabe's method, my WPI entry looks like this:
CODE
cmd1[pn]=['"%cdrom%\\Programs\\MSantispy\\Microsoft AntiSpyware.msi" /qn']
cmd2[pn]=['"%PROGRAMFILES%\\Microsoft AntiSpyware\\gcasDtServ.exe" /regserver']
cmd3[pn]=['%cdrom%\\AutoIt3.exe %cdrom%\\Programs\\MSantispy\\settings.au3']

where settings.au3 is an AutoIt script that does the job of copying the file:
CODE
AutoItSetOption("TrayIconHide", 1)
AutoItSetOption("WinTitleMatchMode", 4)

BlockInput(0)

FileCopy( @ScriptDir & "\gcUserData.gcd", @ProgramFilesDir & "\Microsoft AntiSpyware")

I did notice that some of the other eight .gcd files are updated when certain settings are configured. For example, I like to run deep scans and three of the eight where changed together with gcUserData when I saved that setting. But I only copied over the gcUserData file during my virgin install and everything appears OK. All of my settings were preserved and the progam runs just fine.

@RogueSpear: I will be using this method for the foreseeable future and will report any problems back here, but none are anticipated. If this works as planned, then we are set until at least July 2006, so I figure it's worth the up front effort, eh?
swampy
@ tarquel

I tried your wrapped intaller on a fresh install & got the dreaded 101 error
tarquel
Did you swampy? :S

Thanks for letting me know - seems they didnt sort that out of this new version grrrrr

I'll repack it later on then smile.gif

Just so people who have posted on this thread know, but dont have a dig please - i was only providing one way of installing it [that now needs some revision lol newwink.gif]

I repack them like this *primarily* for use when installing them on a already installed copy of windows. I *try* and make them so you can use them in a runonce-type of situation, so go easy on the comments please smile.gif

I'll update the first post later on when I've had some sleep smile.gif

Regards
N.

No probs, thanks for the effort. Luckily my autoit from the previous version still works gracefully.

i have give the topicstarter his packet a try and dont come across the error 101. i use WPI to install my programs. maybe is this a important difference? (now i am using boardbabe way, works fine too, dont see any wizard and it is running immediality (i have to recheck it again but i dont have time right now))
RogueSpear
Ok, I think I finally got it. Hoping some of you might be willing to test this out. This is a switchless silent installer of V1.0.701. There is no need to execute any command line options after the installer either. The configuration differs from the default as follows: novice user, script blocking agent is disabled, and there is no connectivity to SpyNet.

Microsoft AntiSpyware - 4.56MB

mickmack
RogueSpear: thank you! very handy
BoardBabe
While we're at it... Any idea if it could be done to automate a spyware definition update after/during install?
RogueSpear
It seems to be doing it all on it's own from what I'm observing..
BoardBabe
Really? I clicked check for updates right after i tested a silent install on it and it downloaded and installed new definitions...
RogueSpear
When I first run the application it tells me that the definitions are from today. So I don't know exactly when it's grabbing them (on app start, on app install, etc). It really seems good enough for my purposes. If you want to see for sure, just run SysInternals TCPView during the install or for that matter enable a firewall that makes you permit applications on a per app basis.

One thing I thought I had set properly was to hide the tray icon, but it seems to eventually pop up in the tray. Oh well this seems like as good as its going to get from me until the beta cycle ends. I'll spend more time, which I don't have much of, once the final is out.
BoardBabe
Any experience if the realtime protection really works? Or is this just something that eats resources in the background and at startup?
RogueSpear
It works. One of my clients seems to like the more questionable web sites (he owns the business so I guess he can surf wherever he wants). Anyway, he was browsing to some sights that even made me blush and all the while those little boxes that slide up from the corner to warn you of stuff being block kept on appearing. So it did seem to be working. Also when I first installed MS AntiSpyware on his computer it eliminated a few dozen infections. It was actually kind of cool. It was like watching two militaries duking it out. Luckily MS AntiSpyware won the battle.
