Hi. I’m a network engineer from the southwest. I have some servers that I was using for

educational purposes. They are a few years old but still do the job. Now that I have

finished my courses I could do with some ideas on what I could use them for. I was thinking

maybe as web, email or server hosting?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

hmm pretty broad question.. if you do a lot of emailing make an email POP3 server. if you do internet gaming then you could make a Ventrilo / Teamspeak server, if you need to transfer files between a relatives or work or whatever make a FTP server.. If you wish to make a website make a web server using apache or any other web server.

as with all these servers, make sure to keep them updated. since not updating seems to be the biggest security exploit out there.

Me personally, I got a Server with an 80 gig hard drive taht i use just for Ventrilo (only 8 slots sad.gif ) and File Transfering across my network.

Bi0's ideas are good.

File server is a good one really, also the web idea is also good, just put apache on it or sommit a like to what you need.

you could give me one? tongue.gif

depends on what you use there etc, see what needs are there, what you use the most and could do with there oen seperate server or an extra boost.

I'd sell one if I had one, because I don't need one and I'd make some extra cash.

how about setting up a lab environment (if you dont have one already).

file server, print server, email server, virtual machines server.....the possibilities are endless!
