i know its a little late, to start on windows 2000 since its only about another year for vista,
i still am hopelessly in love with my windows 2000, i recomand it to many poeple to,
but i just miss the windows themes, - i know, like the milions made for 95 and 98, but somthing just
doesn't add up,

so now a want to get ridd of any of the default 2k colorsheme's but have some nice (BUT CLEAN)
installed windows theme's instead

so my question is,

I must bump this, as I am also interested in this. does BlackBox work on 2k?

I remember seeing alternate shells way back when..they had to be installed manually and were a pain in the a**, but looked really nice.

could someone shed some light on this?

BlackBox works on anything from 95 onwards as far as I know.

For something more customisable Litestep might be the way to go, ive seen some serious competitors to KDE from theme creators using Litestep, namely one theme titled Ghost by Norman Bates, anyone interested should just google for it because ive forgotten the address for his site...

With W2K, have you did a start/run and type in THEMES?

Hi, not too late to start with win2k I got sick of XP (Activation) so went back to trusty 2000. As for themes I use Desktop Architect get it at http://www.themedoctor.com/da.shtml works great. Make your own themes or download a stack of them from the site.
I have used BootSkin to change the boot screen Reshack to change the starting and login boxes in msgina.dll, Desktop Architect to change the GUI theme to shades of Navy blue to match a nice new start button and menu bar that I made in Photoshop Elements using Tclock Lite to replace the originals, this all ties in to a nice deep blue wallpaper downloaded from deviantART. I also would recomend RK Launcher (which I found needed Microsofts GDIplus) if you want an apple type animated launch bar and Desktop Sidebar for that Longhorn / Vista look. Most of the system icons are now of the Vista type, drives folders system files et cetera using Desktop Architect to build the into a theme and also Madanote for the akward icons. Another program that might interest you is Glass2k for those transpartent windows.
Win2k is a great OS and with just a few programs and a little time you can update the look to whatever you want.
