Wheres the option for Windows NT Server 4
Vel Straty
Voted for ME since there were many troubles as a tech support for my friends e.t.c..

But personally, I didin't like Windows 95 as it trasshed my whole system down when I was writing a report that was 98% finished on the day when I turn it in. THat day really sucked... I then returned to Windows 3.1(or was it 3.11) for a while until Windows 98 came.

But, DOS is still great!
Clint
Heh, I'm the only one voting down Longhorn tongue.gif

In my opinion ME can be a good OS if you have knowledge to make it so.
Compared to 98 it has decent driverbase, some security, system restore, and is reasonable lightweight.

But Longhorn.... blink.gif

I once went over to a friend's to help him resolve some issues with his home network. He'd agreed in advance that if I fixed his stuff, he'd give me this extra ATX case he had. And I needed another case, so it was a good deal.

Anyway, I go over there and am able to get his home network up and running without too much fuss. So, he goes and grabs a cd binder he has, fishes out a friggin' Windows ME cd, and says "Here, I have an extra one of these, and it's worth more than a case anyway". I just love it when people change the deal. mad.gif When I left, I hummed the friggin' CD out my window and into someone's yard as I drove down the street. ME is a garbage OS if there ever was one.

And of course, I don't help that friend with his computer problems anymore no.gif

Q: What do you call a stack of Windows ME CD's and a loaded shotgun?

A: A Skeet Shoot!

The restore feature was NO plus! It would store them dang'd restore files till they overflowed the HD and ran out on the floor. realmad.gif

Some really great programmer wrote a nice little program to totally disable that feature and delete those dang'd files.

I've used that program many times with great success. In the few instances where that program would not load on a customer's PC, I did the job manually from a DOS boot disk.

Also, ME wouldn't let you shell out to DOS. Jus too much NT in it I guess. confused.gif

Windows NT 4. Reason no usb support officialy and no drect x and kernel upgrades. To many service packs. Prro video dectection. No regular safe mode.

When NT 4.0 was released there was no such thing as USB. As for DirectX it went up to version 5 I believe which was fine at the time; it was never a gaming OS anyway. NT 4 was light years ahead of any of the 9x line, so I find it difficult to think of it as being the worst Windows OS.

I voted for DOS 6.22, I didn't like the GUI laugh.gif laugh.gif LMAO

Why is Windows Blackcomb in the poll?? How could it be the worst windows version if it doesn't exist yet? ohmy.gif

Good question. That poll wasn't very well thought out. Windows 2000 isn't even on the list, nor is NT. Of course MS-DOS was not a version of Windows, and versions from the future definately shouldn't be on there. laugh.gif

Do those little problems REALLY matter?
All we can say is there is a clear winner, and thats what my dad uses!! I use XP Pro and Vista so don't bad mouth me!
cheezus420
ME is pretty cool, but that is just cause my favorite color is blue thumbup.gif (BSOD tongue.gif )
wizardofwindows
biggrin.gif i was gonna choose all of the above but its not listed.so i use windows 2000 i always got bsod and as far as me i had np and 95 was snappy cool for the day..
techniquefreak
Windows ME for sure biggrin.gif
Maleko
Windows ME definately, worse than 95 and 98
Press any key

I upgraded from Win98 SE to Me and had no real problems. Had some good features. Used it until last Sept. before getting a Notebook with XP as a stop gap till Vista.

But I think Me came too soon after Win98 SE and then XP - then a long gap to Vista.

I think us morons want a NEW OS every 5 years, but an eye-candy and bug fix, with extra features every two-and-a-half-years.

Whereas business doesn't want to upgrade for five years.

* I voted for DOS 6.22 but I didn't mind trying to learn that. It came with the 1st
second hand computer I bought for $500.00.

But what would I have done without XTree Gold as my Explorer !!!!

A long time before I had been able to use at work and borrow C/PM.

But when I saw Windows 95 wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

PS. I wouldn't buy Windows XP because on the lock!!! So there.. (I would like to put the OS on my old PC, no matter how slow. Just to even things out.) But they get you in the end!

My vote goes to XP Home. I used it for 1 1/2 years, and I HATED IT!! Of course, that was when I was for the most part, computer illiterate, but still it was terrible. This was when my family didn't have cable internet, so I was stuck with 26.4k, BlackIce Firewall, and NAV 2002. Those three things lead to a frickin hoard of viruses and adware. My friend hacked me 4 times over the course of a year. I finally got windows 2000 pro in the fall of 2003 and it ran like crap on my laptop, but it was much better than xp home. After a while, I sold that laptop and built a desktop with the sole intention of putting windows 98SE on it. This was in 2004, so it was getting hard to find hardware with 98se compatible drivers. Windows 98SE has run perfectly on my system. It boots in seconds, it doesn't crash that much, and I've never gotten a virus on it. In fact, I never got a virus on windows 3.0/3.1/95/98 or Me. I have gotten several viruses on XP Home, 2000 Pro and XP Pro. Though I tend to have a lineage of bad luck on NT based OS's. XP Home NEVER, 98SE FOREVER!! (XP Pro is still ok.)
Aegis
Windows ME is the only version of Windows that was a downgrade of the previous version tongue.gif.
Nerwin
windows xp pro is the best

ME sucks
Matt_
ME sucks the most I think
Nerwin
it's windows 2000 pretty much and it dose suck
anfernee
ME for sure
andyrole
Windows XP Home Edition is a RIP-OFF of Pro... it sucks the most.

Windows ME is a wonderful OS for older comps and is only outmatched by Windows XP (sometimes also Pro) MCE 2005.
ootsoo
ya
ME and 98 also
but i hve more bitter experiences with 98...
so voted for that ...

ME all the way. Though XP home is kind of bad as well if you think about it....and I have Home......
Fencer128
This has to be the winner of the "I could have guessed the answer with my eyes closed" contest!

ME

biggrin.gif

Andy

PS: Why is XP Home so bad compared to the likes of ME? I don't know many users of home that need any of the features of pro. They like the discounted upgrade though.
HyperHacker
Windows ME has to be the worst OS ever, plain and simple.

XP has a few memory management bugs (mainly video memory) but for the most part is alright. Home is fine for those who don't know so much about computers.
Microsft_Geek_Zagerman
I voted xp pro, because it SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
suryad
Its not that Pro has so many darn features over Home...over half of the users with Pro dont know anyway. XP Home is not a multithreaded OS. That is my biggest pet peeve. But Pro is.

Care to explain why? I am curious!

I voted ME, but i'm not sure. xD

I voted for Windows ME. Well, technically, I really despise Windows NT, well yeah, because thats a different operating system designed for business use only.

Of course, I would have voted for Windows NT if it was on the poll. I hate it because it has a lack of driver and gaming support.

Windows ME was bad too. It ran like crap on my system. All the constant freezing and crashing... gave me a headache. And what was really bad was I used the Windows Update features, after restarting my computer, Windows ME became more unstable before it was. Don't know why though.

I liked Windows 98 though, but I can't use it anymore because its buggy like Windows ME. Why didn't Microsoft ever release a service pack for both operating systems anyway?

It sucks because you don't know how to properly maintain your PC as to prevent maajor inconvenience? Or you just happen to be one of those individuals who maintains databases and installed SP2? I have a friend who had to revert to SP1 because M$'s SP2 screwed up more than it fixed. I used to suffer from a lot of problems back in the day before I knew what I know today. Now I'm telling everyone else how to fix their PCs. I don't have any problems because I've had easy problems and hard-as-hell problems that took me days to conquer. Also, after using nLite, XP Pro is awesome.
Shindo_Hikaru
WIN ME has the shortest life in the history of OS'es 6 months
Chozo4
Voted blackcomb - because if Im correct blackcomb never really existed. What could suck more than a version that never [really] existed to begin with? smile.gif
saugatak
Never touched ME.

But XP Pro before SP2 sucked for me. Crashed a lot, would just freeze all the time, took up huge amount of bloat. Was more stable after SP2, but even more bloated.

Yeah, you can cut out bloat with nLite, but why bother when you can just start off with Win2k and cut bloat from that to get a lean, mean OS?
playsafe
I go for ME. Never used one though.
Just saw it once, and due to short life it had, tells the story itself.

The result of the poll says it all (wooo, poetry! laugh.gif )
prx984
windows me is probably the worst, but i never had any problems with it to be honest. with 98 after the USP and 98se2me and stuff, 98 was pretty **** stable and it ran fine for me too. so, i dont really have a worst os to be honest. i wanted to get server 2003 running on my laptop, but evertime id go to install it, it would give me a blue screen dry.gif but it runs just fine on my brothers desktop, so its obviously a hardware issue.

the most troublesome OS iv ever used, and its not because its bad software i just dont know, would be linux. i had so much trouble getting it set up so i couldn't really use it to its fullest extent. iv tried ubuntu, but its slow as molasses, but ill say it is stable as hell.

anyway, right now im using XPSP2/98 dual boot on my laptop and XP Pro SP2 on my desktop and no problems. both computers run great, 98 is fast and stable, XP is a lil slower but much more efficient.

now i go eat, im hungry tongue.gif

lol why does everyone say Micro$oft or M$ instead of Microsoft?

wacko.gif

They like their money and are greedy for $$$$$.

Win XP and Vista are the worst:
-It accelerated the obligatory dependency of Internet.
-Make popular the "kill good oldies" policy.
-Bad compatibility with most non XP software.
-No IPX
.

.
WinMe is just a pound of bugs.

Vista by far is the worst....
Thunderbolt 2864
Yeah Windows Vista sucks. Too bad this poll is old though. I could rant all day how bad Vista is, hardware requirements are way too much, its just stupid.
redxii
Everything except the NT line.
awergh
except that vista is in the nt line so you cant say that
anyway i havent actually used ME i know its terrible but i havent used it so the one i dislike the most is vista which makes it worst and there is nothing wrong with the 9x line

WINDOWS ME

piece of s**t

if it came installed on a pc worked fine.........but other than that absolute rubbish!!!
eidenk
I am a WinME user and I have voted XP Pro.

I have tested WinNT4, Win98SE, Win2k, WinME and WinXP Pro under the same virtual machine on my AthlonXP 2600/WinME computer.

NT4 is the fastest to operate. 2K, ME and 98SE are a bit slower but with not much visible difference between themselves. Maybe 2K is a bit slower than the 2 other ones. XP Pro is incredibly slow in everything.

Nearly 2 minutes to boot versus just 20 seconds for ME. Several seconds to launch notepad, etc...

Probably if I had also tested Vista in this virtual box it would have earned the palm instead of XP Pro.

As for WinME being a pile of s***, which seems to be the opinion of 75% of posters in this thread, I think that what gives this impression is the stupid movie you are forced to watch when you install the OS and the horrible white logo.

Maybe it's also somewhat buggy out of the box, I can't remember, but well updated and trimmed of the useless system restore, wmi, etc... it's pretty good albeit I would not recommend it on a much lower specs machine than mine.

In french, I like to call Windows ME... Windows MErde!
