Is it possible to completely remove the recycle bin? I have absolutely no use for it, triple redundancy backup prevents me from deleting anything important w/o going to alot of trouble. Am mutipartitioned & keep having to set recycle bin to "0%/do not use recycle bin" once a week. Am running 98se+USP[latest]+982ME[latest]

The Recycle Bin is a shell namespace extension that I am not sure can be removed entirely. It is apparently handled at various levels by Shell32.dll.

It's icon on the Desktop is easy to remove though by removing it's GUID value from the Desktop namespace key in the registry.

It's CLSID can also be deleted but this has only the effect of making the contents of the recycled folders accessible normally by explorer.

Certainly you could remove the "Delete" entry from context menu by reshacking Shell32.dll and manually install a file shredder on the context menu of "*" and "Directory" to do away with the Recycle Bin if you wanted to.

Thanks eidenk, I wouldn't trouble with it but it seems Win insists on reseting it to 10% every so often & it's become a PIA! I set it to 0% & "Do not move files to Recycle Bin" but it doesn't seem to stick for very long, then reverts...Grrrrr
Ya, I do delete constantly, but don't want to empty trash or have it take up space. I use Shift/delete but sometimes forget[LOL] & have ended up w/ 20+ mb in trash[color me lazy]

Please note that if 98SE2ME option 3 is installed on top of 98SE, recycle bin has to be reconfigured again [if parameters changed from built-in defaults] from the Recycle Bin desktop icon right-click menu.

unless you're a more accomplished programmer than the hundreds of professionals that wrote Windows 98, leave it alone!

The recycle bin was put there for a very good reason. Many programs use it. Windows uses it.
Leave it the way MS set it up and don't futz with it.

If you delete a file or folder and you don't want it to go into the Recycle Bin, then hold down the left shift key while you hit or click the "Delete" key. That will throw the file completely out of the system and it will never go into the Recycle Bin.

Find something else to occupy your time.....golf, pool, cribbage, porn?

Screwing around with Windows features will give you ulcers, hemhoroids and cause you to become a real PIA to people on the forums as well.

No respectable tech in the world would suggest that you futz around with Windows System files and features.

Andromeda 43 read my sig[last line] I "futz" with windows all the time & I don't have hemhoroids, ulsers or anything close to it. If anyone thinks I'm a pain in the kester they can say so, no foul or offense taken If you don't "futz" you can't learn & might as well not get out of bed in the morning. JMHO

I have completely deleted Recycle Bin from my registry and all hard drives + partitions early on, right after I installed Win95 retail (FE), back in 1995.
Never had problems since.

BTW:
I never format my HDs nor reinstall OSes from scratch.
That's because I keep a backup of all my OSes in safe place, so I can restore pronto, just in case I screw up.

I hear that MDGx, I keep a CD image[3 actually] & use Power Quest's "Second Chance" for restore points[too bad they got gobbled up by MS] + sync/backup to USB hdd. May be redundant but works for me All core prgm installs are on D:/, they never move, E:/ is my add/subtract/play, C:/ is OS only, for tight & lite image.

For anyone who still has the issue of the Recycle Bin reverting back to default settings and you're using Crap Cleaner, be sure to uncheck the 'Empty Recycle Bin' option. Crap Cleaner seems to reset the Recycle Bin options back to its default when it empties the bin.
