hi all
I know I have reported this before but as its still not been sorted out I'm so reporting it again kb 891711 is still locking up my computer on restart after install of the service pack
I don't know is anyone else is having this problem but its extremely annoying and I would request that it either be removed or have an option so that id doesn't get installed because quite clearly this patch hasn't been sufficiently fixed so that it works for everyone despite what Microsoft say
sesp21a-en.exe does not contain KB891711 fix from Microsoft but unofficial fix.
How to check what you have installed:
Official Microsoft KB891711 fix version 1:
Kb891711.exe 4.10.2222
Q891711.dll 4.10.2222
This fix is known to cause problems an was replaced by version 2
Official Microsoft KB891711 fix version 2:
Kb891711.exe 4.10.2223
Q891711.dll 4.10.2222
Unofficial KB891711 fix contained in sesp21a-en (older version)
Kb891711.exe 4.10.2224 MD5: 611bb94c570d601894d96ca309acc08a SFV32: A9A69FB6
Q891711.dll 4.10.2223 MD5: f744fde2011add7978a840f73fa8348b SFV32: 86BC013D
KB891711.EXE 4.10.2224 appeared to be causing some performance degradation on
an older PC using Windows 98 SE.
Therefore KB891711.EXE was updated to use fixed GlobalMemory instead of movable GlobalMemory. This appears to improve things.
Unofficial KB891711 fix - newer version
Kb891711.exe 4.10.2224 MD5: a47a1095cb568a93437228fc7adace91 SFV32: 4C843312
Q891711.dll 4.10.2223 MD5: f744fde2011add7978a840f73fa8348b SFV32: 86BC013D
(Kb891711.exe has the same version number but different content)
sesp21 contains uninstall option for KB891711 fix in Add/Remove programs.
Please try to identify which version is causing your problems and which not.
