Introducing QuickTime Lite for VCP ...

This installation will provide full browser support for viewing and downloading files in the QuickTime format.

The Vista Codec Package will no longer includes any QuickTime components. VCP is fully capable of MOV and 3GP playback without any QuickTime software installed. This release of QuickTime Lite for VCP uses the original MSI installer from Apple to install a 'lite' version of QuickTime which will provide full browser support for viewing and downloading QuickTime files. It installs a single shortcut to the VistaCodecs\32Bit Tools directory. It does not install the Player, Image Viewer or Java components which are part of a full QuickTime installation.

The contained files are NOT branded as beta in any way. The releases are datestamped (inside and out) to distinguish between them. When I prepare new files, the datestamp posted above will reflect the latest build(s) available.

These releases are available to anyone reading this topic at anytime including users without MSFN accounts. Users without MSFN accounts can easily contact me by using the donate button which reveals an email address that I monitor regularily.

I would also like to take this oppurtunity to say THANKS to all the previous VCP BETA testers. thumbup.gif

Filetypes are no longer associated. MPC is no longer part of the package.
After this pack is installed, any player will play any filetype.

As previously posted, I’m unable to upload updates at this time because i don’t have highspeed internet access. This project will always be a work in progress, and I have made several updates since v3.1.2 (current internal version is 3.2.0). The most notable update other than updated codecs/filters is that I’ve made the ffdshow components separately uninstallable without removing the entire package. I intend to return to the city (and highspeed access) aprox. mid June.

wow, 3.5 milestone newwink.gif thx bro!
You're welcome, and this release is more of a milestone than you realize. This package is now developed to the point where i will begin to focus on user options such as what to install, where to install etc. Dont expect to see any of these types of releases anytime soon. I will continue to provide updated packages for unattended installs in the meantime.

Thanks for the comments.
As for multiple formats for the same thing? the answer is simple, when i 1st started making this package, i had no idea what i was doing other than getting all my vids to play on a clean install without hunting down filters/codecs.
Your timing to visit my thread is just right because i have just completed a total overhauled of the installer/installation and cut back tremendously on whats included, and what is not.

Updated to version 4.0.0 on September 11, 2006

4.0.0 HIGHLIGHTS:
- select installation location (not in unattended mode)
- select whats installed (not in unattended mode although after installation, through add/remove/[change], you may remove items safely)
- select installation localization/language - for languages other than English, you needs to be repack the addon using the switch /L xxxx specifying your localization string. The language strings are included with the distributed fcpack_addon. Current languages included: Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish. PM me if you want another language supported. I still need to prepare a full changelog - will do a.s.a.p.

This release is distrubuted in 3 versions: ADDON / MSI / EXE

Hi,Shark007
Thanks for continuous update !
Now i found the way to make your addon work properly.
it's all because of nlite remove components in my system
not about regtweak.i think rebuild cabinet file process by
nlite causing an error.

All components that safe to be removed is the components
which no need to decom-recompress cabinet file eg. Tour ,Search assistant.

Now,it's work great on my system (3.6.4). i'll try 4.0 this evening.
My dialup connection is hot now... smile.gif

I'm glad you were able to figure out what was causing all your troubles with the 3.x versions. Sorry i couldn't be of more assistance. I'm also glad to see you're still using my package.
4.x is a huge improvement over 3.x - I'm sure you're going to like the changes. Most notable is the abilty to selective install/remove components.

Another big improvement is that new releases are able to detect past (4.x) releases and upgrade them. This means continued support well beyond the intial installation of windows.

What is the switch to install it silently?

I've tried many switchess but always recieve the windows open file security warning
I have no idea what you are trying to do. Seems like you're using the general distribution EXE. This is meant for public release, not unattended installs. Choose one of the other methods, the addon contains a switchless installer EXE, or the MSI, which accepts usual msi switches.

Good work, you should get rid of AviSplitter.ax because it creates incorrect time stamp when used with Aud-X or ffdshow when upmixing 32 bit or float pcm raw data. MpaDecFilter.ax is also not needed at all, stock Windows can decode mpeg audio fine, this codec also steals other codecs tasks.

CoreAAC would be nice addition for handling mpeg 4 audio. You should also get rid of Gabest/Nero stream splitters (mp4, matroska, avi etc.) since Haali's superior media splitter does that and other codecs that do same take that away from Haali. To sum up, you included more than one codec to do work, and since Haali Media Splitter is much more stable over Gabest or Nero you should get rid of them.

I also think that using H 264 encoder through command line and xvid through xbid_encraw is much better option than MeGui.

I'm always looking for quality input. Thank you very much for the information/opinion. I'm not a media guru. I doubleclick a video file and hope that it plays. You can expect several of these suggestions to be implemented in my next release.

Keep em coming if you have more ideas of improvement . . .

You may want to upgrade avisynth http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=116044 . Some of the files that you included with ffdshow are not needed as for newer builds, (audxlib.def, audxlib.dll, ff_x264.dll ... you can compare by installing newest ffdshow) from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow...t/?sort_by=date I always prefer builds from clsid because they're rock stable. He updates it daily. Files like ffvdub.vdf are unneeded, they're used by virtualdub and they're suppose to be in plugins folder when that program is installed. If I was use I would move all .ax to system32 except ffdshow.ax, I would put all files from ffdshow into a folder in your FilterCodecPack folder. Files like x264vfw.dll with vfw are virtually useless without virtualdubmod, and x264vfw.dll is especially very outdated, it hasn't been updated for about year because vfw is 1995 technology that is now replaced by
CLI such as x264.exe

I can't realy tell you more because I haven't installed it whistling.gif especially with registry entries.
This is how I encode in high profile h.264
CODE
@echo off
title H.264 Encoding

start /realtime /b /w x264.exe --pass 1 --bitrate 1000 --stats ".stats" --ref 16 --mixed-refs --no-fast-pskip --bframes 3 --b-pyramid --b-rdo --bime --weightb --direct auto --filter -2,-1 --subme 7 --trellis 2 --analyse all  --8x8dct --vbv-maxrate 25000 --me umh --thread-input --progress --no-psnr --output NUL input.avs
start /realtime /b /w x264.exe --pass 2 --bitrate 1000 --stats ".stats" --ref 16 --mixed-refs --no-fast-pskip --bframes 3 --b-pyramid --b-rdo --bime --weightb --direct auto --filter -2,-1 --subme 7 --trellis 2 --analyse all  --8x8dct --vbv-maxrate 25000 --me umh --thread-input --progress --no-psnr --output video.mp4 input.avs

pause exit

And in with XviD encraw
CODE
@echo off
title XviD Encoding

start /realtime /b /w xvid_encraw.exe -i input.avs -pass1 ".stats" -bitrate 1000 -kboost 100 -overhead 0 -vhqmode 4 -qpel -closed_gop -lumimasking -imin 1 -pmin 1 -max_bframes 4 -bmin 1 -threads 2
start /realtime /b /w xvid_encraw.exe -i input.avs -pass2 ".stats" -bitrate 1000 -kboost 100 -overhead 0 -vhqmode 4 -qpel -closed_gop -lumimasking -imin 1 -pmin 1 -max_bframes 4 -bmin 1 -threads 2 -avi video.avi

pause exit

Both use 1000kbps bit rate and b-frames, both are maxed out, some call it "the insane quality". Without AviSynth scripting this wouldn't be possible, so stick with megui because I don't believe that many people understand it completely.

I'm glad you've been using my package. thumbup.gif

On September 11th, I released version 4.0

This release was a total rewrite of the entire previous packaging. The most notable changes are the ability to choose what is installed using the public redistributable and after an unattended install, through add/remove programs, you can select to remove specific portions without removing the entire package.

Although I’ve maintained functionality throughout this transition, there is plenty of room for improvement. Without input from MSFN users, none of this would have been possible. I’m hopeful most users have bared with me throughout the 4.x transition and soon this package will have settled into its own little niche.

Future releases will recognize previous releases and perform upgrades, so there is full support well beyond the initial unattended installation.

All these little tweaks and improvements you make between versions, if I upgrade my current version do I still get the benefits of the reg tweaks and uninstaller improvements? By the way, thanks for the great codec pack.

I will try this but first a question. I use nero show time as my audio and video player. Does this codec pac work with this?
Thanks for trying it out. Since the package doesnt associate filetypes any player can make use of them. All you need to do is associate filetypes to your favorite player and you're good to go.

Although the package will perform upgrades to previously released versions i suggest that you uninstall/reinstall any ware instead of upgrading. Upgrades arent perfect and in testing upgrade scenario's, redundant files from one package to the next are sometimes left behind. I've also noticed that redundant registry entries are sometimes not removed either. Using uninstall assures you that you have a clean install of the currently distributed package.

Thanks for using this package. Its come a long way from its' beginnings as a personal solution that i decided to share here on MSFN. Through user input, this package has become the best single install solution available today. thumbup.gif

The recommended unattended installation....
look in that paragraph in the 1st post for the integration file.

It is somewhat hidden on purpose because it is hosted on a private server donated by Dumpy Dooby and i was hoping to avoid random hits on his server to prolong its longevity.
