Thank you for a wonderful program and all the time you guys have put into it.
Everything is working great after following the guides on Tomcat's page, but upon installation of Windows (XP SP2), it came up with a message saying it couldn't find "C:\WINDOWS\HFSLIP\HFSLIPxxx.inf". xxx, being 226-265. It seems as though everything gets installed, but the error is confusing at best.

This error may happen occasionally. Try running HFSLIP again. Also, please post your ERROR_REPORT.txt file, as we might be able to figure something out using that.
The updates are still actually installed on your computer even if the INF files are missing; however, the registry entries and keys that Windows Update uses to check for the presence of your updates will not be added. In other words, WU will attempt to reinstall all the updates you have already slipstreamed.

As requested, here's the error report. I looked through it, as I do everytime I run HFSLIP, but didn't find anything that stuck out.
It does seem as though everything was installed correctly except for a switchless install of .Net 2.0, but that's a different story...or is it? I used the one from RyanVM and put it in the HFSVPK directory. .Net 1.1sp1 is in there as well and it gets install just fine. The only thing Windows Update picked up to install was KB898461 and KB905915. That's it, just the two.
Thank you.

This is probably a stupid question, but are you sure? Usually when this happens to me, the next time I start the computer, AU starts downloading the rest of the updates I had slipstreamed.
QUOTE

As noted on his website, this installer cannot be installed from SVCPACK.INF. This is exactly where HFSLIP places things you put in the HFSVPK folder. So, no, it won't work.
I will take a look at your error report and get back to you. Meanwhile, see if either Tomcat, tommyp, or someone else can help.
By the way, welcome to the forum

!

Edit: I see you have msxml4sp2-kb887606-x86-enu.exe in your HF folder. I believe HFSLIP processes this before msxmlcab.exe, so it won't really update anything. Try this thread:
Script -- MSXML4 SP2 with latest update for use with HFSLIP.

Well, I did the initial HFSLIP install, then installed chipset, NIC, video and sound drivers then rebooted. Once back up I immediately went to Windows Update and those two are the only things it picked up aside from .Net 2.0.
Ah, crud. I don't know where I read to put it in that folder. I'm guessing it'll have to be where RunOnceEx can pick it up?
Thank you for the welcome! Seems there are many very cool folks helping each other out on msfn. Excellent place, me thinks.[/quote]
I'll probably end up yanking out the XML stuff as I really don't need it, but thanks for the link.
Hmm, tried quoting, but that was fubar. Weird...

About the MSXML stuff:
I totally forgot that tommyp integrated Tomcat's script into HFSLIP, so you don't need to follow that link I gave you.

For .NET 2.0, use Zxian's silent installer (
English or
multilingual)

Yep.
But watch out... .NET 2.0 takes quite a while to install.

I have a similar problem and, possibly, more info that may help.
The unfound files in my install are: C:\WINNT\HFSLIP\HFSLPnnn.INF
Note the spelling delta of the file name - makes one suspect a typo. But is it the original poster, my self somewhere along the way or HFSLIP_60310.CMD?
For what it's worth, the files do exist, as HFSLPXXX.INF, in the HFSLIP\SOURCES\I386 after running HFSLIP_60310.CMD.
As I'm running HFSLIP_60310.CMD again and it stops to display file and folder formats, I see that INF files to be processed at T13 should be in HFSVPK - which is empty. Checking step 5 at
http://www.vorck.com/hfslip.html, that's 'optional' and I put nothing in HFSVPK.
To try to experiment my way around the reboot cycles, I'm putting the unfound INF files in HFSVPK ... to see what happens.

If the files are in the SOURCESS folder but they don't end up in the WINNT\HFSLIP folder during installation, it can only mean they aren't copied over. Can I have a look at the TXTSETUP.SIF file from the SOURCESS folder?
Super-Magician
Mar 27 2006, 02:31 PM
danod, you shouldn't experiment (I know, you're experimenting

) with putting the INF files in HFSVPK. They are *dynamically* generated by HFSLIP based on the hotfixes you have. Oh, by the way, it's not exactly a typo. Whoever created that part of the script named it so.
tommyp
Mar 27 2006, 03:45 PM
Yes, those were cleverly named such that HFSLIP can support up to 800 hotfixes.
danod
Mar 27 2006, 04:45 PM
Hey Tomcat76, thought I'd posted TXTSETUP.SIF in a reply. Perhaps it's too large to put on forum? Anyway, it's here:
http://www.yaod.com/HFSLIP/TSTSETUP.SIFThanks,

b.t.w., since you're interested in it, I infer I should be. And the HFSLPXXX.INF entries are curious. This is typical:
HFSLP200.INF = 1,,,,,,,999,0,0 - and I suspect 999 is meaningful. Trying to discern from HFSLIP_60310.CMD.

Do you mind removing dotnet from the HF folder to test? After that, run HFSLIP again and then open TXTSETUP.SIF in a text editor to see if you still get any "install.res.xxxx.dll = 1,,,,,,,2,0,0" lines. They should be all the way at the bottom (if they're still there).
Edit:
I just checked and those files are part of .NET 2.0. HFSLIP doesn't support slipstreaming of .NET.
danod
Mar 27 2006, 05:28 PM
Absolutely. Removing dotnet and re-running HFSLIP
re-run underway with: dotnetfx_18f7bece34e729581e6b5b7b9afae1b.exe removed
Got it: dotnet unsupported by HFSLIP
Thanks so much Tomcat67. I'll expect a clean install!

Ok, Tomcat67, if you're interested, the ERROR_REPORT.TXT and TXTSETUP.SIF from the run of HFSLIP sans dotNet. As you expected, the: install.res.xxxx.dll = 1,,,,,,,2,0,0 are gone. About to stick in a VM and see if I got a sane platform for SQL Server.
Thanks, mon. HFSLIP and this forum rock!

Sheesh - I glanced away at email and, with about ten minutes to go - rebooted into setup running again into installing windows with 39 minutes to go ... again.
The files from the latest HFSLIP run are at:
http://www.yaod.com/HFSLIP/Into 12th hour of mucking with this but for a trip to the store and lunch. So ... tomorrow.
Thanks,

Edit: Had to watch one more time. Forty percent into "Registering Components" with 13 minutes left - same problem; cannot find C:\WINNT\HFSLIP\HFSLP200.INF ..., etc.
No Eureka, after all.

Are you sure you are using the latest test version that TC has posted? It appears you are using an older version.
During installation when it is detecting hardware, press shift+F10. This brings up a command prompt. CD to the windows folder. Then cd to the hfslip folder. Tell us if the %windir%\hfslip folder exists. If it does exist, run a DIR command and see if there are a bunch of INF files there.
Tomcat76
Mar 27 2006, 09:43 PM
KB889101 is the Service Pack. If you want it slipstreamed, please create a subfolder inside your HFSLIP folder called HFSPACK and place it in there.

Tomcat67, Tommyp:
Use of the command prompt was revealing. The HSLIP directory exists during installation with all the .INF files in it. It persists through much of "Registering Components" and then is cleared - which seems reasonable. Progress is made through "Finalizing - saving settings" seems to about complete that and reboots.
Coming back from reboot, it restarts setup back to "Preparing Installation" and runs through the "Personalize Your Software", collects product key, machine name and so on. But ... HFSLIP is long gone.
Don't think the reboot is error - says it's going to do it. But it's as though it leaves a sticky set up flag or bread crumb. This is all on a VM, by the way. And I'm wondering if that's a factor.
Thanks,
--danod
Edit: Another point of confusion: I tried building an ISO with the Sources content using Nero(7). If I build a data CD ROM ISO, I get no boot record. If I build a bootable CD ROM ISO I get a CODE 4 (whatever that means). I've tried using the same boot.bin I provided to HFSLIP and another I've successfully slipstreamed XP SP2 with some time ago with no good result in any case.

Running on the VM should not be much of a factor.
However, your computer definitely shouldn't reboot and completely restart Windows Setup. It should get into the whole "Windows Welcome" business.

danod--
Have you moved the Service Pack into the intended folder? See my previous post...
danod
Mar 28 2006, 08:13 AM
Tomcat67,
Done. Wasn't sure that was aimed at me and got confused by the fact there's already a folder, HFSVPK - compounded by the fact I see neither referred to in the page (http://www.vorck.com/hfslip.html ) that kicked me off on HFSLIP.
But HFSLIP is running on it now with the service pack pulled from HF and placed in newly created directory, HFSPACK.
Thanks,
--danod
Edit: duh! I'd already extracted the service pack into the I386 directory. So it was redundant in the HF directory - and then in the HFSPACK directory. I suspect the latter is merely redundant - as in no side effects. But if it doesn't fly this time, I'll yank it altogether.
Thanks!
Tomcat76
Mar 28 2006, 09:07 AM
If the SOURCE was already patched, then HFSLIP will ignore the Service Pack in the HFSPACK folder. In the case of Win2K3, HFSLIP searches for an SP CAB file in the SOURCE\I386 folder to determine whether a source is patched or not.
danod
Mar 28 2006, 11:05 AM
Well, I've run with the serice pack in HFSPACK and having been removed altogether ( except for having been expanded into the original source). No variation seems to have affected the result - reboots after registration into Windows splash screen and then ... windows is restarting set up.
I'll start this process from scratch. I must have poisoned it somehow. This time I'll let HFSLIP do the service pack in the first place.
Tomcat76
Mar 28 2006, 03:18 PM
I don't know if you're interested, but I got a page going with updates for Win2K3. The link is in my signature. There are direct download links to all hotfixes (English version) except those which are WGA protected.
