This is the first I heard of this one. I always thought IE6 came with 128 bit encription. Can you post your error_report? Oh, that link you provided is for an IE with less than version 6SP1.
Tomcat76
Have you always had this problem with HFSLIP or is it new?

Also, are you just going by what's mentioned in the About box or do you experience other problems (eg, with secure sites) as well?
Sereby
i have this problem every time! its every time only 0bits and i use a german system and german IE6 files

there is no error report because there was no error.

and i only see it in the about box from IE and i think this box show it correctly
Daemonforce
I use a US English Internet Explorer and I can tell you this can be fixed by forcing a bunch of registry entries into the classes section. I believe the complete solution would come out to around 1.83-1.88MB depending on how excessive German descriptions can get. I just went through hell manually installing Internet Explorer. =/
Tomcat76
I wouldn't trust the About box because its content can be modified. Up until recently, HFSLIP would add a few stuff into it for Windows 2000 to satisfy Windows Update but I did some extensive testing recently which showed that it's now only needed for Outlook Express updates. On the other hand, I'm using a version of IE6 customized with IEAK6 so it's possible that one of the Internet Explorer-related edits are still necessary for non-IEAK6 builds.

The file ERROR_REPORT.TXT is created by HFSLIP every time, whether there was an error or not. It contains a list of the files you are including. This can help determine what's going wrong.
wela
Hi.
Do you use ie6 or ie6sp1, theres a great differenz between this versions!!!
The error-report ist in sourcess folder and in the folder where you have hfslip files and folders.
Please send the error report.
Sereby
i know that this file is created by hfslip newwink.gif

and i use IE6Sp1

here the error_report:

Can you try version 60307 of HFSLIP?
Tomcat76
Are you including the Update Rollup for Win2K SP4?
Are you using Win2K SP4 as the source?
Sereby
i only integrate IE6 files into a clean unattended SP4 source cd (german)

whats changed in version 60307 that could help with this problem
Tomcat76
You need to include the Update Rollup if you want to slipstream IE6. Please refer to the Windows 2000 link in my signature.
Sereby
and why that?
Tomcat76
As far as I know, it's because UR1 overwrites files updated by IE6 with a lower version.
TommyP should be able to answer that. I didn't write the script and I never investigated it...
Daemonforce
Uhmmm....No. From what I could tell I needed IE6 to install the rollup without problems. blink.gif
Unattend installs would keep giving me GDI and MSOE errors if I didn't. O_o
Tomcat76
On the KB page for the Update Rollup, MS specifically say that the rollup only updates components that are part of Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4. As an example of updates/features the rollup doesn't update, they specifically name Internet Explorer 6 and Outlook Express 6. I have never installed the rollup on a system that's patched with IE6, but if the Rollup installer would go through till the end you'd have to install IE6 again afterwards, so there's no point in installing IE6 beforehand.

I guess TommyP never tested "Win2K SP4 plus IE6 minus Rollup" because of the above and I don't intend to either...
tommyp
Boy a few hours and there is two pages of this. If you want IE6 slipstreamed, you also need the 2k rollup.
Sereby
same if i integrate the rollup into it ^^

IE6 has every time 0bits!
Tomcat76
OK...

Use a clean, non-unattended and non-SP4 source. Create a folder called HFSPACK and place the SP4 executable in it. Place the necessary IE6 cabs in the HFCABS folder and place the update rollup (Windows2000-KB891861-v2-x86-DEU.EXE) in the HF folder. Run HFSLIP.

You are the first to report this problem so I want to be sure that the problem doesn't lie elsewhere.
Sereby
its still the same but now i get while setup some error with the following files:
msoeacct.dll
msoe.dll
inetcomm.dll
Wab32.dll
oeimport.dll

all the same error message with the same Windows Update title.. all could not be loaded.

after windows is installed Outlook express cant be started because msoe.dll isnt or cant be loaded dont know ^^

why and how to fix this?
Tomcat76
Can I have a look at the ERROR_REPORT.TXT file from that installation?
tommyp
Stupid Q, but do you have a HFCABS\MAILNEWS.CAB file? If you do, is it corrupted? (There are 54 files in the cab). While your checking out that cab file, check the other required CAB files required for IE6. Use Tomcat76's signature as a guide for what cabs are required. Side Q, is your current operating system (the one you are sitting in front of now) reg tweaked to disable the 16 bit subsystem?
Sereby
my current os is xp with SP2 and my german updatepack and 16bit enabled.

here the error report file:

You need the script version for your language. For english it's scriptEN.exe. For yours, I would presume it's scriptDE.exe. This file is a requirement for IE6 to slipstream.

TC, on your hotfix site, the scripten.exe is needed if you are HFSLIPing IE6. If you aren't doing IE6, then you shouldn't slipstream it. In other words, it should not have a little checkbox by it if IE6 is selected.

You mean it should not have a little checkbox by it if IE6 is not selected.

By the way, Sereby does have scriptde.exe. However, he has it as a CAB file (SCRIPTDE.CAB) in HFCABS.
tommyp
He needs the scriptDE.exe in the HF folder.

By the selection boxes, I mean that the file is mandatory if you are slipstreaming IE6 and with that said, you should not be able to deselect it. If you aren't slipstreaming IE6, you do not need the scriptXX.exe hotfix. The scriptXX.exe has the dlls (and installation infs) specific to IE6.
Tomcat76
That's new to me. I never tested 2K without scripten.exe so I never knew it really was mandatory. I'll update the hotfix page then.
Sereby
still the same if i add scriptde.exe to the HF folder!

but still the other problem! every time if i add the IE fixes then is Outlook Express not able to start! it says every time that it couldn't load msoe.dll
Tomcat76
It's really sounding as if your IE package is corrupt or not updated. Did you download the installer from Microsoft and then update it per the instructions on FDV's site?
Sereby
what do you mean with "update" it? i just downloaded with this command the w2k IE6 files and then placed them in the HFcabs folder! this works but if i want to integrate the hotfixes for it msoe doesnt work anymore sad.gif
tommyp
Have you tried the latest hfslip with option A? Also, are you sure that your source folder is OK? In other words, make an ISO out of the files in your source folder? There is many occurances where you could get a bad copy. If you have a bad source folder, then the sourcess folder won't be good either. It's up to you to test that. As far as I know, you are the only person reporting this issue. Are you sure you didn't kill your 16bit subsystem? Is the machine you are working with installed via an NLITEd source?
Sereby
i'm working on a nlited xp pro with sp2.

the source is ok

my last test was with HFSLIP_60401.CMD and i use Option D to create a new SPx.cab file if needed but it doesnt create it because just integrating IE6 an msxml3 from updaterollup by hand

edit:
ok found some interesting things!
KB897715: the new msoe.dll is broken! this let crash the OE at startup.
KB823353: the new MSOERT2.DLL brings up this error which say that it couldn't load msoe.dll

i'm now testing if it works now smile.gif
tommyp
If you NLITEd out your 16bit subsystem, then you *will* be SOL with hfslip.
Sereby
i never remove 16 bit system! some app installers need this ^^
Tomcat76

KB897715: the new msoe.dll is broken! this let crash the OE at startup.
When you exclude that update when running HFSLIP and install it manually afterwards....

- do you get error messages starting Outlook Express?
- does msoe.dll then have the version that's inside KB897715 (6.0.2800.1506) or is it an older version?

This can be fixed by HFSLIP but I need to know the answer to the above two questions.
Sereby
the OE bug is fixed if i remove the msoe.dll build 1506 from source and use the build 1478 from KB887797 does work! and dont use MSOERT2.DLL from KB823353 does work, too!

but if i install these 2 updates the errors are back
Tomcat76
That's good to know but do you still get errors after you install the full updates manually (ie, run the two executables)?
Sereby
yes i still get these errors! ok just the "could not load msoe.dll" error because the currupted MSOERT2.DLL ^^ so i cant see that the msoe.dll is corrupted too
Tomcat76
OK. I just wanted to be sure you weren't just swapping DLLs.

One more thing before I release a new test version... Do you have "kb897715-oe6sp1-20050503.210336.cat" in SOURCESS\I386\SVCPACK? Does it still exist on your installation CD?
Sereby
i keep this file (just renamed it to KB897715.cat)
Tomcat76
OK. Try test version 60404a. It should work around the problem with msoe.dll. If you *still* get into problems, the newer msoe.dll is damaged completely but I doubt that's the case.
Sereby
and whats with MSOERT2.DLL from KB823353? this file is broken too!

and i look into you bat file and this will not work! you have to delete the msoe.dll! i tested it by hand and every time when i replace the original or build 1478 msoe.dll file then does the error occure
Tomcat76
I see now that msoe.dll is not being registered so the fix won't matter. If it *would* be registered, it might have worked.

Do you have the same problem on a "normal" (non-HFSLIPped) installation?
Sereby
i installed 2k normal and installed IE6 then installed the 2 updates and OE doent longer work
Tomcat76
This is difficult. You are the first German to report a problem with the OE updates. I can't just remove DLLs if not all Germans are affected by it.

You also mentioned having problems with inetcomm.dll. Combine that with msoe.dll and you get the KB897715 hotfix (only those two files are updated by it).

When you did the "completely manual" install, did you use the same IE6 setup file as the one you used to get the CABs for HFSLIP? If so, I wanna check something. I did it myself with the German IE6SP1 and I got these:

BRANDING.CAB (8 252 bytes)
IEW2K_1.CAB (1 861 786 bytes)
IEW2K_2.CAB (1 719 135 bytes)
IEW2K_3.CAB (1 883 001 bytes)
IEW2K_4.CAB (2 143 524 bytes)
MAILNEWS.CAB (1 975 897 bytes)
OEEXCEP.CAB (20 116 bytes)
SCRIPTDE.CAB (822 707 bytes)
WAB.CAB (606 147 bytes)

Are these sizes identical?
Sereby
i extracted the updates and replaced the files by hand! only msoe.dll and MSOERT2.DLL are currupted!

BRANDING.CAB (8 252 bytes) MD5:CC36A1484D18255F9D9737D1EF85B8A5
IEW2K_1.CAB (1 861 786 bytes) MD5:FD59942C4602100766CA3050B4F8C145
IEW2K_2.CAB (1 719 135 bytes) MD5:E5C02F743DEE0D977275ACE962CDA2FF
IEW2K_3.CAB (1 883 001 bytes) MD5:8557021A86F3B14D455F0C719E7B5C2A
IEW2K_4.CAB (2 143 524 bytes) MD5:BDC2CFB4A04151A96648E1D0A691CCE1
MAILNEWS.CAB (1 975 897 bytes) MD5:21231D4E1410F83D9E7037C2FBA1D414
OEEXCEP.CAB (20 116 bytes) MD5:CF87C18C82F7069C52F0E75F6ADCA6BF
SCRIPTDE.CAB (822 707 bytes) MD5:F899651FD171ED76E89E121E43D955E5
WAB.CAB (606 147 bytes) MD5:D7A42156705EE1A690FEB39007687653

so i have the same files as you have
Tomcat76
Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with those hotfixes. KB897715 was released in June 2005 and KB823353 in June 2004. MS usually don't care about slipstreaming problems but you have a general installation problem which MS would've fixed by now if it's so obvious.
tommyp

Can we backtrack for a second? You install a non-hfslip'd 2k, and then install ie6 and then the two updates. After doing that, your OE doesn't work? This doesn't sound like it's an hfslip related issue then. Are you sure you are applying the correct OE hotfixes?
Tomcat76
He's using the correct hotfixes according to his ERROR_REPORT.TXT file.

The problem doesn't lie with HFSLIP, but I also think there's nothing wrong with the hotfixes. MS would fix a problem like this...
