wow! long wait... biggrin.gif

So WU checks, not only the pressence of the files and registry entries, but the date of the files too. Pretty annoying, huh?

Anyway now with RC6 version all works flawlessly here, with Windows 2000 Professional SP4 and Windows XP Professional SP2. Maybe we are reaching final? tongue.gif
Tomcat76
Actually, WU is not the problem. Because the files in the cabs were given the current date, the files in the hotfixes were considered older and thus not slipstreamed.

I haven't planned any more updates for 1.5.0 so it's just bug-fixing. If nothing goes wrong, it will be released this weekend. Ultimate deadline is the weekend before Patch Tuesday.
XibaD
Well, one last observation.

I slipstreamed WXPSP2 with RC6 now and WU shows 934238, and 925720. And ShowDesktop icon in Quick Launch is gone.

I see you have ShowDesktop.cmd in HFSVCPACK. What's in it? Maybe it's conflicting with what HFSLIP is doing now.

Also, to be sure, can you ZIP HFSLIPSD.INF and attach the ZIP here?

KB934238 is not supported. I've explained this to johndoe74 here.

I'll need to check why KB925720 doesn't work.

The INF file you attached looks fine (at least after downloading it). Do you have a "Default User" folder in Documents and Settings?

Removed ShowDesktop.cmd. Removed all custom regs in SVCPACK. It's not working for me.

Maybe winnt.sif it's causing trouble? I don't know..
Tomcat76
Do you have "Mostrar escritorio.scf" in "Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"?
XibaD
Yes, I have. BUT the problem is that in spanish version of Windows "Application Data" folder is called "Datos de programa". Maybe you should use %ApplicationDataFolder% variable instead of the folder name (if you don't use it already).

By the way, have I told you that OE is gone too? Only IE7 icon is showed in quick launch (but OE isn't as important as show desktop icon).
sabregreen
Tested rc7 on win2003 enterprise SP2 using kb927891-v5-x86-enu.exe and it doesnt come up in windows update. So I assume its applied correctly.
Tomcat76
@sabregreen
There shouldn't be any problems with that hotfix on 2K3SP2. It is missing an SP1QFE (or SP1GDR) folder so it's SP1 that's affected. Thanks anyway smile.gif

@XibaD
I didn't know that. I checked Dutch & French systems and they use "Application Data". But I now checked the German version and its Application Data folder is localized like the Spanish one.
Try this version. This should do the trick... smile.gif
sabregreen
I just seen that in the changelog it says compatibility unknown. At least you know SP2 works newwink.gif. If there is anything you want me to check i can, as I have access to all versions, 2000, xp, 2003 SP1,SP2, and R2, and Vista business/ultimate. I work for a school district, therefore I use all versions smile.gif.

Now, with this new fix, it works like a charm. If you need more testing, I also offer my services to the cause U_U

I really do appreciate your work and support. Thank you Tomcat76, you are the best.

Cheers from Spain. Bonne nuit!

Concerning your OE question... I can't remember Windows XP setup creating that shortcut. Are you sure it's supposed to be there on a virgin install?

Virgin biggrin.gif ....

Ok, yes, I'm 90% sure that in a fresh or "virgin" install, as you call it, there are three icons: ie, show desktop and oe. But with all this stuff only ie was showed, until we fixed the showdesktop.

Well... I'm 90% sure it's there for Windows 2000 but not for XP. I'll have to test this with an unadulterated XPSP2...

I have installed a unadulterated Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. There is no OE icon in quick launch, you were right.

Well... Slipstreaming the .NET 1.0 update is only possible if a source is detected as MCE. This is done by checking for the existence of SOURCE\CMPNENTS\MEDIACTR\I386.

If that folder isn't there, it won't be slipstreamed.
Sorry for the delayed response, but why not check for CMPNENTS\NETFX instead? not that it matters, I believe Tablet PC and Media Center both have the same dir structure, but what if I decided to delete the MEDIACTR directory cuz I know I am never going to install MEDIACTR, but will install TabletPC, net 1.0 would not be slipped and it IS needed in TabletPC.

blushing.gif heh. you know what, sorry but ignore my response, For me my way is better since I only use one source (ProductKey determines XP,MEDIACTR,TabletPC not existence of CMPNENTS dir), don't need 1.0 slipped into XP build. blushing.gif

Hi tc, using the current Testrelease i´ve made two installs, one with xpsp2 german and the other w2ksp4 german.
Following your instructions about the new feature hf\basic and hf\noreg i build the cds.
In both hf-folder i included the new rootsupdate reported by tomalak.
Xpsp2 installation went fine and WU shows nothing.
W2kSP4 installation also ok, but WU offers the rootsupdate.
What do you need for error searching? unsure.gif
Tomcat76
The updated Roots Update installer is for WinXP -- not for Win2K.

Canged the Rootsupdate in W2kSP4 hf and rebuilded the cd.
Wu is happy.
070705a works great with german XPSP2 and W2KSP4. thumbup.gif

I used 070707a to build a XPSP2 CD with slipstreamend IE7.
Works great for me.
WU shows nothing.
THX a lot for your work. smile.gif

Used current Testrelease to build XPSP2 German-CD.
Starting installation and textcopy-mode ok, Installation goes well until registering files (T13?).
There it shows missing parameter for msiexec 3 times.
Any ideas?
hfsliplog attached.

Reused a CD builded with the final 1.6.1. No errors at all. It was builded without timezone.cmd and .cab in hftools. Timezone update Hotfix in HF.

rebuilded. It was the space..... silly mistake. blushing.gif

Btw, is there a way to jump over this point of hflsip processing?. I do not use Multiboot.
Tomcat76
Your "CD Install Path" is a space. You may want to fix that.

hi tomcat76,

i would like to make a feature request:

i intend to use ris in order to install our client machines in the future. i'm currently using hfslip and silent net maker to prepare the installation files for ris which works like a charm - thank you for those great scripts!
unfortunately, when i copy the files over to the ris server via risetup -add, some files from the sourcess folder don't make it over to the ris server. as far as i can tell from searching the internet it is because of some missing entries in the file layout.inf. one example for such a file is "aaclient.dl_". when i manually copy over the missing files after risetup -add, everything works fine. would it be possible to have hfslip regenerate layout.inf so that it contains the entries for all the new files?

cheers,
grunz
Tomcat76
Windows setup doesn't like to see a modified LAYOUT.INF. System File Protection needs to be modfied/disabled for this which is what I don't want HFSLIP to do. TommyP may have a different take on this but I won't do it. I'm sorry.

@AgiHammerklau: stay relaxed, sweetheart! at first let me make clear that i'm sure not asking around everywhere - maybe my 5 postings in that forum are to hard to read for you, but i don't know... maybe you're just halucinating a bit today? as far as i can tell, both tools were publicly released under the gnu license - at least both tools contain the corresponding license agreements. if we were in a linux-forum, i'd say: RTFM! the only thing that would support your statement at least a little bit would be the following quote that you can find somewhat hidden at the bottom of hfslip's homepage. quote: "The target group are "home users"." that doesn't sound to me like it was forbidden to have a look at it, even if i might intend to use it for so called commercial use...
i really appreciate the author's work, and how can _you_ tell that i won't support them for their work in case i can get everything to work the way i would like it to?
btw: did you already find the donate via paypal link, mate?!
if any potential supporters get p***ed of like that from people like you, Nuhi, TommyP and Tomcat76 won't probably see a dime...
additionally, i can't see anything wrong in contributing my observations and feature requests to this forum, and i really don't like people that want to tell me what i should do.
and above all: keep your temper, mate!
grunz
@AgiHammerklau: sorry - i just forgot to add something to read for you:

And here's another quote for you (sorry for the german stuff, but maybe agi is better in understanding his mother-tongue):

@AgiHammerklau &grunz,
To clear things up, both HFSLIP and NLITE are for personal use and not for corporations/companies. Both programs and websites have information saying the same. I don't know how much clearer it can be stated. Ignorance by not reading documentation isn't an excuse.

Please take your back and forth comments offline or in some other forum or venue as this is not the place for it.

Now, let's get back to topic on test release discussions.
Thank you

Cross posting this one. I posted to main thread by accident.....

Is it me or is something wrong in SVCPACK.inf? Using 1.6.3rc1 (also same with 70814a):

CODE
[SetupHotfixesToRun]
HFSLIP.CMD
0_RogueSpearsRuntimesCF.exe
oemscan.exe
VMwareTools.exe
HFSLIP.CMD

I'm also attempting to track down an issue where permissions are being changed on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies". Could HFSLIP be the culprit? I'm not pointing fingers yet, I am still backtracking to get a good build first. Only changes that come to mind are versions of HFSLIP and versions of RogueSpear's runtimes (RogueSpearsRuntimesCF & RogueSpearsRuntimesPart2) used. AND OF COURSE any additional MS Hotfixes that I added.

Take a look at the contents of HFSLIP.CMD. In mine, I've got this line: "IF EXIST %SYSTEMROOT%\HFSLIP.TMP GOTO :PART2", which indicates that the script is supposed to be run at least once already. I think what you're seeing is normal. Also, even though I know this issue has been addressed to death, but having underscores in addon names could be causing problems. I myself use RogueSpears' runtimes, and haven't had any problems in the local policy settings. Strange.

If you're referring to the two instances of HFSLIP.CMD... that's intentional. It's the cleanest way to satisfy several requests (order of installation, .NET before MSI installers, etc.).

I've observed the same permissions problem recently. It may have to do with the key that HFSLIP is adding for LegitCheckControl.dll on Windows XP SP2 but I need to test that. Thanks for posting this.

Excellent! On both counts.

I had widdled down to not using any .net stuff to see where I was. Last run through no go. The last version I believe was successful for me (I should know today), was either 1.6.2 or 70616b or 70812a.

Don't bother; it was the LegitCheckControl.dll registry key. Or better: HFSLIP 1.6.0 and newer adding it into the registry from a registry hive during the first Windows setup stage. Version 1.6.3 fixes this problem by adding it into the registry at T-13 as in version 1.5.0 and earlier.
