SFCFILES.DLL should go in APPREPLACEMENT, not in FIX.
Afaik FIX takes already compressed files (SFCFILES.DL_).

Btw, there's a typo here I think: http://www.vorck.com/hfexpert.html
"Example 1 - SysInternal's Process Explorer, Renamed to TSKMGR.EXE"
It should be renamed to tAskmgr.exe. newwink.gif

There's more than one way to skin a cat.
Camarade_Tux
Hahein. yes.gif
...what ? biggrin.gif

I understand but what are you speaking about exactly ?
taskmgr, APPREPLACEMENT... ?
For taskmgr, if I write tskmgr it doesn't work. And if put SFCFILES.DLL in FIX, I get both SFCFILES.DLL and SFCFILES.DL_ in i386.
tommyp
Here's two things... skinning a cat & the file to put into FIX is sfcfiles.dl_. The FIX files are copied over at the end, overwriting anything that is in the sourcess\i386. The contents of the appreplacement gets fixed with the MODIFYPE.EXE program, is cabbed and then placed into the sourcess\i386 folder.

thanks Camarade_Tux & tommyp! smile.gif

from i gathered though here http://www.vorck.com/hfslip.html, it shows:
QUOTE
Other modified binaries go into D:\HFSLIP\FIX
The contents of the FIX folder will be added to the final folder of source files at the end of the slipstreaming process. If you want to overwrite any files, place the files in the FIX folder. Some possible modified files to place here include sfcos.dl_ or sfcfiles.dl_, or files like winnt.sif. You MUST NOT put a modified SYSOC.IN_ here!
so i placed it in FIX ...
& yes i downloaded compressed SFCFILES.DLL from http://www.vorck.com/data/SFCFILES.DL_
QUOTE
Alternately, instead of hacking SFC_OS.DLL, you can leave it alone and use a version of SFCFILES.DLL that is empty. Download this new SFCFILES.DLL and put it in FIX.
could there be a workaround for this?

as for taskmanager, i renamed procexp.exe to taskmanager.exe as taskmanager.exe is what's present if verified in a regularly non-slipstreamed installed XP ... and then i did not rename procexp.chm anymore but just placed it in HFEXPERT\WIN\system32\procexp.chm newwink.gif
heisking
In the instructions for HFANSWER.INI it states:

QUOTE
Set DELCATS to 0 if you want HFSLIP to silently keep .CAT files when modded SFC*.DLL files are detected.
However if DELCATS is set to 0 then the .CAT files will be deleted as per this line in the SVCPACK subroutine of HFSLIP:

QUOTE
IF DEFINED DELCATS IF EXIST SOURCESS\I386\SVCPACK\*.CAT DEL/Q/F SOURCESS\I386\SVCPACK\*.CAT
Kiki Burgh
thanks heisking!
this issue is already resolved ... thanks to TC ... he pmd me & we have a secret! smile.gif
he! he!
Tomcat76
Thanks, heisking. I updated the main application (60628). smile.gif

hi!
i was just wondering if this "updated" update http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms06-025.mspx is already taken cared of in our previous test releases, or even in our final version?
thanks!

EDIT: my apologies ... might have posted this incorrectly ... i'll be posting this concern in 2K/XP/2K3 updates smile.gif
Kiki Burgh
wow ...
new test release ... smile.gif
Tomcat76
"It was about time!"... Heheh... smile.gif
tain
@TC: Why is the HFSLIP test release published as a .7-zip? It looks like all of your other files, including the final HFSLIP, are standard .zips.
Tomcat76
Just for the record... HFSLIP is TommyP's. smile.gif

He wants it in a ZIP so I'm keeping it a ZIP. The test versions are in 7z format to keep the file size down (and ultimately the bandwidth on my server). The test versions of other files used to be in 7-zip format too until I realized that ZIP does better for ultra small files, so they're now distributed as ZIPs.
tain
Sorry, wasn't trying to imply that tommyp didn't still drive this project. blushing.gif

I was just curious about the formats since they didn't seem consistent...and I can't install 7-zip on my workstation at work. no.gif

I can help out with the hosting if you like. I have way more bandwidth than I know what to do with.
Tomcat76
WinRAR can extract 7-zip files and I suppose some other major compression programs can too.

The offer is nice but the frequency at which some versions are released wouldn't make it worth the hassle. I'll use ZIP for the test releases for a while and see how things go.

Please wait while HFSLIP slipstreams XPize. This may take a while.

Sorry for not getting back sooner on this.

The line "Slipstreaming XPize completed" is displayed after the processing of XPize. The "File not found" message comes from somewhere else.

You said also that you are no longer getting shortcuts for XPize after installation and that your HFSLIP run time went up. I suppose that, because of the variables you have set (or not set) in HFANSWER.INI, HFSLIP decided to do a slipstream of XPize instead of an SVCPACK integration. That would explain everything.

You can try the latest test release which simplifies the XPize handling. The XPIZESW variable is enough to make HFSLIP do an SVCPACK integration like before.

I noticed a problem in the DOSNET.INF file you posted, more specifically the reference to WMPreg.inf. Do you know which addon is adding this file?
the_guy
@Tomcat

I think HFSLIP will have to be updated so that it copies the RTMQFE files for 2000 with IE6 SP1.

I did an HFNetChk scan and it told me that dxtmsft.dll version 6.3.2800.1548 was less than what was expected (6.3.2800.1549). I didn't save it to a txt file before I updated the computer with the RTMQFE versions (following the method in 897225).

the_guy
tommyp
the_guy - can you verify this with installing the problematic HF onto a non-hfslipped machine and check the file versions?
the_guy
Not at the moment.

I should be able to get back to you by the end of the day (or tomorrow at the latest).

Kiki Burgh
hi sirs!
these are what i have for 60630a ... pls see attachments ...
i'm having concerns again about the ff:
(1) kbdbhc.dll not being found in the right location (just like before) that i still have to point it to i386
(2) RC is not being installed - DOSNET.inf has syntax error as per the pop-up ... & my only option is to cancel ... thus resulting to: "Cannot complete the Windows XP setup wizard"
(3) still placing SFCFILES.dl_ in fix results to setup being stuck at T-39 mins ... placing it (SFCFILES.dll) to in APPREPLACEMENT as suggested by Camarade_Tux results to installation ebing stuck at T-9 mins ... incidentally, how do i uncompress SFCFILES.dl_ to become SFCFILES.dll? ... what i did was to just rename the file extension to .dll ohmy.gif
(4) dos text copy mode has probs w/ the codecs (i'll be posting the same to Tain's thread) smile.gif though i think i figured a workaround ...
i'll post a new msg as apparently my other attachments are not being taken ... sad.gif
thanks!

though i noticed there is already a new test rel ... have already downloaded it ...
btw, just to share ... i think i didn't get the same issues with 60628 ...
Kiki Burgh
hi!
here are the other attachments ...
thanks! smile.gif

NP TC! i think i prefer not having the shortcuts anymore so my start menu doesn't get that much cluttered ... smile.gif ... the only prob here is that XPize bootup screen doesn't show anymore when slipstreamed ... as for WMPreg.inf ... if this is re media player ... i could only guess it's the WMP11 (beta) add-on ... but so far it (WMP11) works great for me ...

posted new headaches for you TC! ohmy.gif ... sorry!
Tomcat76
The syntax error in DOSNET.INF is in the line referencing WMPreg.inf. Where can I get this WMP11 addon?

AC.cab and AC.inf (ZacamAddon_AttributeChanger) are also not properly added into DOSNET.INF. I'll try to find why this is happening.
Kiki Burgh
thanks for the quick reply ... (just like Germany's bid for WC 2006 newwink.gif)
here you go TC: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2319 ... well anyway, it's beta after all smile.gif
as for the other, i'll check
Tomcat76
I'm downloading it now, but I don't think it's that. Your new DOSNET.INF and TXTSETUP.SIF do not contain WMPreg.inf.

I found the problem. I'll post an updated version soon.
Tomcat76
OK... It's there. smile.gif

sirs, please advise me on this one ... would there be any other way than renaming it? i can compress via MAKECAB (as taught by TC newwink.gif) but doing the reverse is something else ... thanks!

The empty SFCFILES.DL_ from FDV just needs to be renamed. It's not a compressed file.

Support for this was dropped a long time ago because it's too difficult to implement. The installation INF for the hotfix that contains this binary needs tons of modifications, not to mention the fact that it's in Unicode (at least the non-English versions are). You can use RVM's Update Pack which includes that hotfix.

alright ... didn't know it was dropped ... given that i am not currently using the update pack (as i've learned it quite the hard way --- that i should not include all hotfixes i could get my hands on --- as not all applies to my system newwink.gif), then i'll just have to remove KB897338 (The new language locales that are included in update 897338 for Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs) from HF ...

as for this ... either it makes my installation lock up at T-39 or T-9 when present --- not that it is a MUST to have but it frustrates me when i couldn't come up with a good build when this file is included either in FIX or HFEXPERT\APPREPLACEMENT dirs ... i have never been successful in any of my attempts --- would there be any workaround for this? i believe it works for the others but why not for me? no.gif
thanks a lot again!
Kiki Burgh
just want to report that EVERYTHING works WELL for me usign the current test rel ... no bugs smile.gif i'm happy with my current builds ... 1 purely HFSLIPped & another nLited --- both posing no issue ... a final in the making (ha! ha! ... to early to tell ... others might still post some probs;))
Tomcat76
Awesome... thumbup.gif

It can be considered "a release candidate" as far as WinXP is concerned. It still needs to be checked if everything's fine with KB916281 on Win2K and Win2K3.

BTW... Did you slipstream those Quicktime codecs in the last build?
Kiki Burgh
QUOTE (Tomcat76 @ Jul 5 2006, 06:32 AM) *

Yes ... successfully slipstreamed those ... i used the older pack though to overwrite other files in the latest pack newwink.gif
Kiki Burgh
oh btw, XPize is indeed accepted much better this time (i.e., boot screen shows already) ... incidentally, there is already a newer ver: XPize 4.4.2 smile.gif
and i have already downloaded the latest test release 60704a
Camarade_Tux
Btw, DBLINXP.EXT is working like a charm. smile.gif
Kiki Burgh
ey ... looks like were nearing a new final ... except for new updates! yey!
(Camarade_Tux --- Zidane & his to the "finals" too. Viva Frenchie! biggrin.gif)
Camarade_Tux
I think I should stop HFSlip. Yesterday was Wednesday and on each first wednesday of the month, there is an alarm test in France. At first I thought, "ho, first wednesday of the month", immediately after I thought "hey, 7 days before patch day"!
I'm really too dangerous. laugh.gif

And it's really uncredible there is final versions of HFSlip with new patchs every month. newwink.gif

@Kiki Burgh, still wonder how they managed. biggrin.gif
Super-Magician
Tomcat - don't take this personally, but is there any way to speed up the release of HFSLIP finals after Patch Day? I know you need to do a lot of testing and release a bunch of feedback, but I find that once you release a new final, there are only a few days before I have to add more hotfixes.

By the way, 10 patches comin' up on the 11th!
tommyp
It amazes me how people can be so ungrateful for a free utility.
Tomcat76
The way it looks now, the next final should arrive faster. I don't have as much to do as in the previous months. I could release one this weekend already after testing KB916281 on Win2K and Win2K3 but I'd rather hold off until after Patch Tuesday.

thanks! newwink.gif
Tomcat76
I already updated my lists (web pages) with the three new security hotfixes (KB896422 is replaced on XP and 2003) after checking them out. I don't see any problem with them.

I still need to check KB921181, though. Does that appear on Windows Update? Is it labeled an optional hotfix?
Super-Magician
Fast update on your list this time, Tomcat newwink.gif biggrin.gif! Thanks!
Kiki Burgh
i'll go create new builds then ... smile.gif
i foresee no issue ... he! he! ... and a new final then i suppose ...
Tomcat76
You can't wait for a new final, do you? biggrin.gif

I'll give it another day or two. If no problems arise with the new hotfixes, you'll get the final... tongue.gif

he! he! as always TC ... so i could finalize my ISOs too ... for fresh install again! newwink.gif but pls don't let my wish get in the way of ensuring HFSLIP works for all the other OSs ...

TC, i guess the thread on Windows XP SP1/SP2 updates and hotfixes, June 27 has not been updated yet to reflect those new MS updates ... newwink.gif
the_guy
MS06-035 on 2003 sp1 (GDR version only) looks like it has an issue. It has srv.sys, but it also has srv.hp.sys. This might be a problem. Maybe update the latest test release to work around this?

the_guy
Tomcat76
Done. Thanks... smile.gif
