Anyone gotten this game yet? I'm curious how good or bad it runs on different hardware. I've read the requirements but I wanted to hear from real tests how it runs.

Agreed. Morrowind IMO is the best game ever. I have ordered up an evga geforce 6800 GS just to be sure i can play oblivion seeing thats the recommended. Still curious to see how well it does for others

i actually just got morrowind the other day and it is pretty sweet
so by the time i get all of elder scrolls 3 done im sure that 4 will be out

Wow you must be pretty quick! Oblivion came out yesterday (March 20th in U.S). I goofed and didnt preorder and when i went to pick it up it was sold out everywhere. gamestop and eb games had nothing so i preordered from newegg. God knows when i'll get it

I got it for the 360 I've only just started and its pretty cool. The graphics are ok from what I can tell but its hard becauase its been night time or in dark caves and sewers so far and the darkness is hiding all the detail... I've heard from other people that is the most beautiful game ever... I don't know about that and kind of doubt it... we will see.

My co-worker at my workterm placement gave me a copy of the game, but since I prefer FPSers, the game doesn't really appeal to me. Graphics weren't bad but HL2's are better.

HL2 graphics are just simple sweeeeet

omg! well my friend just got the game and i saw it and i just had to get it, so i did! the graphics are pretty sweet but the first part of the game is in a cave and it is rly dark so i cant tell yet...

I finally got it a couple days ago. Been playing 20 hours into it. Havent done any of the main quest except for taking that gem to the dude. Been doing odd quests and joining guilds. Finished the arena and working on dark brotherhood now. Runs pretty good on my 6800GS. Lags a bit in some places where alot of things are going on butwho cares, this game is my all time favorite now. Didnt think i'd like it better than morrowind but i do! Make sure you get the latest graphics drivers from nvidia (84.25) as they "claim" it adds tweaks for oblivion.

im still waiting for the new 64bit drivers to come out!!!

and on my 7800gt i get no lag at all, so nice
what p***ed me off about morrowind is that for some reason it lagged every few secs which must have been some type of glitch

I had the same problem as well. At the time i had an uber crappy nforce2 mobo and it turned out the pauses and lags were due to the sw_ide driver. Go figure i guess. I got tired of the crap and bought the xbox version

I would have gotten oblivion on xbox 360 but i dont have the money for the console and the game both besides i sunk all my money into building a good computer to last me a few years. I havent had a good computer since back in 2001 :/

well ur gunna love it, the graphics are amazing with hdr. morrowind's graphics are a joke compared to this. but the one thing i liked about morrwind was how your inventory was organized and that whole layout, in oblivion it is stupid looking.

i tested on my pc:
AMD64 3200 Venice
Radeon 9800 PRO (128MB)
1GB DDR400

ran fine and never really lagged at 1280x1024 with no AA, bloom off, and all distant draws on. And i did run through the forests on the horse helping brother martin, so im not just judging from the games begining.

lol! i am currently thru the oblivion gate so we are pretty close together, but that stupid soldier died on me

the Apotheosis Staff is way to powerful. I was playing with a friend and we defeated everyone in the Arena (except 1 wizard guy) with it using usually 1 or 2 hits. The champion only took 4 hits from the thing. The cool thing is they usually go flying back like 5 feet when you hit em with it!

well ive gotten far past that spot today, im a night elf which means im resistant to fire, to the whole thing was pretty easy.

I still havent done any of the main quest yet. I've been too busy with the dark brotherhood and becoming a vampire heh

Will take me a while to complete, as i just love exploring (should arrive in the post today!)

i've played it for about 24 hours now, i think i'm somewhat close to the end of main quest.
very advanced game graphicwise, it even makes my 7900GTX break a sweat and scream in pain.
if i max out visuals in drivers and ingame using mod tweaks it'll chug anywhere between 5-30fps outdoors
but without filtering and just using high game settings with hdr..i still only average close to 30fps so i dont see how anyone could stand playing high settings on a lower end card.

i have the 7800gt with hdr enabled and im all fine, ill use fraps to check out my fps tho, sometimes is gets laggy but not often.

edit: im getting anywhere from 30-60 both inside and outside

I get some stuttering because of dynamic texture loading and such, but that's quite common, and I can live with that! Would take insanely long time to load an area if everything was preloaded!

Since I am on WinXP 64-bit I need to run in 32-bit emulation mode (Hoping for a 64-bit patch!), which give me a small decrease in performance, but only affects about 2-5 fps.

Inside i have stable 40-60 fps, and outside about 15-40 depending on how many NPCs are on-screen at the moment.

im running x64 and i get no stuttering. i just played for a few hours and i got no lagging at all at any time. and loading the different areas takes less than a sec, thats the only lag if thats what you would like to call it.

anyways, ive been rocking it up in the theives guild. its pretty sweet, now i can steal things and sell them, great way to make money.

I get 28-45 outside and 37-80 inside according to fraps (version 2.7.2) using 1024x768x32 with hdr and nvidia driver version 81.98. 84.25 gave me too many problems. The game put the settings at very high on first run and i havent messed with any. Only lags here and there mostly when loading area and when i get into a heavy battle with 3 or more people.

Played it for a bit last nite, SWEEET!

FULL detail, and runs like a charm, well impressed.

But do agree, the inventory is now crap in comparision to the old one, oh well, acnt have everything

Just got one problem when chaging rooms via a door, games blacks out, and i hav to reboot.
But if what jago_lfn says, that 84.25 drivers gave him problems, ill try the old ones also, see if that fixes it.

Good for you. Yeah, I had the game crash on me once last night turning slightly to the left after coming out of a house, apparently it was a sound iddue, but the SB Live cards are said to be excluded from the list of problematic cards, the Audigy's and so forth.

eh? I'm using an Audigy 1 and have had no problems whatsoever with sound. Maybe a driver update would help?

Also has anyone else noticed how different it is when it storms in oblivion than from morrowind? Some of the storms seem to get rather severe and the thunder is believeable now. Thunder always sounded so fake in morrowind

also take a look at the sky, both at day and night, they really did include amazing graphics.

Amazing indeed. I love how right at dusk when it's all orangeish and then it starts to fade to night, thousands of stars... and the two moons... it just has to be seen to enjoy

It's really all down to personal prefrence really. I've played though morrowind several times starting new games and i always find it's best to use imperial or dark elf (dunmer). Never really cared to be nord as they get knocked down too easy (poor starting agility) or wood elf and I've avoided being argonian and kajhit right off due to not being able to use helmets and boots. Things may be different in oblivion though i haven't checked.

Yeah it has been fixed, I've got a Kajhit wearing boots and a helmet, (daedric i believe) my first play through morrowind was Kajhit and I was quite dissapointed at not being able to use boots or a helmet but on Oblivion you can wear boots+helemet on a kajhit (not sure about Argonian though)

i found this to be an amazing mix
the dark elf is pretty much resistant to fire which helps out a whole lot while destrying oblivion gates

the steed gives you 20+ speed points, so running away from guards when u steal something is easy

the battlemage i guess helps with sword and magic

I'm guessing that would be illegal? I paid 20 dollars for the real guide from ebgames so i have a nice thick book i can look at without having to alt-tab

I bought the one for morrowind as well. it's all worn out and the cover is almost torn completely off heh

my friend's morrowind map is about to fall apart, he has the oblivion guide as well, thats a nice thing to have

well i am now guildmaster of the theives guild! but one of the quests involved me killing someone in the mages guild, and to get back in i need 20 vampire dust and 20 daedra hearts...

Heh have fun collecting those I'm Listener in the dark brotherhood now and all i can say is wow to how it all happened. Most unexpected events and that was just gross what the black hand did to Lucien. I'd give more info but i dont want to spoil it for people who havent done it yet.

I'm on Level 1 in the Imperial City as an Imperial. I wait until it's dark and everyone's asleep, lockpick all the best shops and steal Steel <insert weapon/object here> that would normally cost me a LOT of money. Anyone see that chest in the Arena that has "very hard" on it? I contains 500 gold and I didn't find that out by reading the PDF.

i saw that chest and picked it very easily, my lockpick skill is over 30

and the good part about the theives guild is that u can sell stolen items to special merchants called "fances"

so ill make my rounds at night and sell 1000$ worth of stolen goods to a fence

I stole Steel Boots, Armor, Helmet, Battle Axe and Shield, but when I equip the shield, I don't hold it and it doesn't appear. Do I need to be at a certain level or skill to be able to have it? Any ideas?
Edit - Nevermind, just had to equip a one-handed weapon.
