been using hfslip for sometime now and i like it very much. my system runs much better using hfslip but starting with this version 60208 to date i am having this annoying problem where i can not unistall some program like powerdvd / f-prot all the program that is in the installshield folder. i can run the setup directly from that folder and unistall them but not from add & remov.
just to make sure that is not my doing i started a fresh hfslip folder with nothing removed just slipstream the hotfixes and it still has the same problem .
please help me solve this issue
Tomcat76
This is gonna be difficult. Did you see the changelog for Feb 8? Very discriptive... laugh.gif

During that time, I started "doing stuff" in HFSLIP but only small things and all went through TommyP. I didn't keep a personal record of every detail until I took things more into my hands in the 2nd half of February.

Which is the last one that works for sure?
tommyp
Are you doing any registry changes to defeat 16 bit processing? Have you tried hfslip without any of the items in your hfsvpk folders? Are you running nlite on the sourcess?
Tomcat76
That's what Jackie wrote: "just slipstream the hotfixes and it still has the same problem"
jackie
well i did try the new test version as well as the new release version the problem is still there.
like i said i did test just with hotfixes and no other program or reg tweaks and still having the same problem.
to be sure that the hotfixes are not at fault i did a test with nlite alone and no problem there .

i have a feeling it is registry/or path problem but it is puzzling because when i try to unistall manually from within the installshield folder by running the setup.exe of the program it will unistall but not from add & remove

thaks for all the help

the program that i am having this problem with ( powerdvd 5.0 / F-prrot ) i might be wrong but i think they both use innosetup , could one of you try any program that uses innosetup to see if you can duplicate this error.
Tomcat76
Jackie... Which is the last one that works for sure? Have you tried that version recently?
Kramy
I think I heard somewhere removing the IE core makes Add/Remove not open, though on XP and using nLite it still functions. Either way, when I heard that I downloaded this: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/myuninst.html

If your Add/Remove doesn't work, you can temporarily(or permanently) use that.
jackie
add & remove works fine , the problem is just those two program that i listed

@tomcat76
to be honest with you i don't have the older versions anymore but i can tell you for sure the problem started with 60208 version . so if there is a way that i can have one of the older version i am more than willing to try and make sure of it

I second that program, its more flexible than the built in one anyways. If you use FDVs 2k fileset you must use something else anyways.
Tomcat76
@jackie

OK... I've tried to locate all versions between January 1st & February 8 that I still have lying around. Most of those are test builds so if a new problem arises just ignore that version. There's 10 of them.

Thanks... and good luck... smile.gif
jackie
i tried the myuninstaller and it didn't work .

@tomcat76
thanks for the file i will try them and let you know
Tomcat76
Here's an idea... Try HFSLIP_60107.CMD and HFSLIP_60207b.CMD. Something "big" was changed between those two.

Edit...

Wait a second... I found a whole lot more. The two files I mentioned in this post are too far apart so it wouldn't prove much. Here's a package containing two versions that are much closer together; one right before the "big change" and the other one right after.
jackie
ok i just tried this one HFSLIP_60207b.CMD with no problem at all now if you have anything closer to this one 60208 i am willing to try it.

this is not related to my current problem but i figure mentioning it to you ,
i use vmware to test my iso for any errors for a long time using hfslip i could not install the vmware tools even with the latest release but it installed with this one HFSLIP_60207b.CMD
Tomcat76
OK. Thanks. I'll check it out.
Tomcat76
I did a complete file by file comparison between versions 60207b and 60208. In the newer version, the section which creates the SPX.CAB file was revised. For the rest, the files are completely identical.

Are you using merging options D/E/F? If so, have you tried A, B or C?

Personally, I find it hard to imagine that that's the problem. Are you absolutely certain that the problems started from version 60208 onwards?
jackie
no merging and all default options . with 60208 and later i have the same problem
Tomcat76
Alright. Would you mind running the latest test release (60326a) and provide me with your ERROR_REPORT.TXT, HFSLIPWU.INF and TXTSETUP.SIF files? I suggest you compress them together.

After that, please run 60326a again but choose merging option A, B or C and install that. I need to know if the problem really lies with the "non merging"...

Thanks.
jackie
using 60326d version worked perfect . installed with all the programs and tweaks using mergins A option so far seems to be without any problem . but i could not install using no merge option. it resulted in BSOD during install.

here is the files you asked for.
thanks

A few comments...

WindowsMedia10-KB911565-x86-ENU.exe
WMP10 is not in your HF folder so you might have problems including this update. I'll leave that up to you.

WindowsXP-KB885626-v2-x86-enu.exe
This is not needed for a slipstreamed SP2 install. Are you having problems when you don't include it?

WindowsXP-KB893066-v2-x86-ENU.exe
WindowsXP-KB894391-x86-ENU.exe
Both of these are replaced by newer hotfixes, KB913446 and KB902400 to be exact.

See if you still get problems after (re)moving those hotfixes.

I'd like to have a look at your winnt.sif file if that's OK. Remove the key if it's specified.

Do you remember what the BSOD said? Any reference to a file?

Edit:
One more thing... Can I have a DRVINDEX.INF file from the SOURCESS folder created with 60207b (non merged) and the DRVINDEX.INF from the SOURCESS created with a newer version (non merged)?
jackie
i normaly slipstream wmp10 using nlite and never caused me any problem.
i will remove those three hotfixes and try again without them and let you know. i had no idea they were replaced
i am at work right now so i get you the files that you asked for later on when i get home.
thans for the help
Tomcat76
You can let HFSLIP take care of slipstreaming WMP10 since you're running an English version. There's an English WMP10 addon you can download over at the RyanVM forums. It goes in the HFAAO folder. I never tried it myself but there's nothing in the configuration file that HFSLIP can't handle. Note: it contains wmcsetup.exe plus a couple of hotfixes so you can remove these from your HF folder.
jackie
i use the wmp10 addon pack just never trid it using hfslip, i sure will now that i know how.
i have been using the same set of program and tweaks in all of my cd's so i was pretty sure they were not causing the problem that i had so i just ran the latest 60326f and using merge and no merge option they both seems to be OK now

per your request here is the drvindex file from both no merge 60207b and the no merge 60326f

Thanks again
Tomcat76
That's good news. I think we're heading for a new final then. thumbup.gif
