hello thanks for this pack also available for german windows....

some reports after install everything (german win98se):
- after install, movieMK.exe won't work, missing export 'die datei shell.new ist verknuepft mit export-shlwapi.dll:shrregisterValidatetemplate'
- on almost every part of update there was an codepage conflict on qfecheck.exe flipping between german & englsih version
(- not a bug: conflict between kernel update pack and WUPG, don't notice each other and installing conflicting backup mechanismns)

Which language is your Windows 98 OS and which language of the wupg98(english or german) did you try to install?
If you installed the german pack over an english 98 OS or vice versa this can happen. You should install the same language as your OS has.

So to the conflict I would like to know if you had first installed the KUP or the WUPG?

WUPG98 installs the kernel32.dll 4.10.2224 and makes a backup (in the recover folder)of the kernel32.dll that was on the system before.
KUP I think renames the old kernel file?
So there are when I think about it 2 options what could have happened.
Please tell if it was one of these 2 cases:

a.) You installed WUPG and KUP ,then uninstalled WUPG so the new functions of KUP got lost becaus the original kernel32.dll was restored after the uninstallation.

b.) You installed firtst KUP then WUPG and maybe the kernel32.dll was replaced by WUPG(that hasn't got the extra functions). Althought this seems unlogical cause the update installer checks if already newer files exist.

I never had the chance to install it on Win 98 FE by my self( since MY only testing pc with 98 SE on it for testing was accidently destroyed because the contact of the bios battery socket broke down on my trying to reset bios by taking out and inserting the battery again *embarrassing*).
Maybe somebody else could report how the results are.
But I suggest it should work since most updates only should install if the properly OS version is used.

No, WUPG98 wil not work.Tried on my computer.Crashed my computer,but I am going to try to create a FE Service Pack with GUI updates,new CP applets,drivers,and security updates.
Been working for 1 month on Service Pack.Expect it to be out in December!!

I just got WUPG98 and I must say it is a very nice package! I definitely give it for being able to manually install/not install certain things with WinRAR, it's just a nice feature to have. Keep up the good work, I love updates like this

Sorry to say, but MM1 doesn't install right...I know some MS-DOS batch programing, so I opened up install.bat and saw the problem: the MM1 directory needs to be created on the user's hard drive before you copy the program!!! I got MM1 eventually...needed to copy the MM1 install directory to my hard drive manually. Hope this helps for the next relese of WUPG98!

Well for that I have to say it does install but not into the diretory you may like to:

See this line:
Copy C:\wupg\mm1 %windir%\MovieMaker

It gets copied normally in C:\Windows\MovieMaker.

The thing was I had no clue where to copy it so I choosed %windir%.
Any suggestions for an other path?

Ok, I added it right now.
Yeah very big thank you to you, that skin is really great!

I already have Kernel EX 3.6 installed, along with the latest accumulated security update and root. If I'm going to install WUPG98, should I uninstall Kernel Ex first and the other updates? Or can I just install this over Kernel and the other updates?

KernelEx can be installed seperate after the Setup, it is in C:\wupg\KernelEx036
But it would be better first to uninstall it, then install WUPG, and then reinstall KernelEx from the folder (so that the functions are available in the newest version). EASIEST is: FIRST WUPG98 gets installed (Kernel32.dll is 4.10.2224, so if your's is lower, the file gets replaced and KernelEx functions must be readded), then afterward KernelEx ( so the new Kernel32 gets the KernelEX functions).
And thats it.

There is no other thing, to check before unistalling.
KernelEx should anyway be installed after any unofficial SP, Upgrade Pack etc which updates the Kernel32.dll file, as last!

So you would need to unistall it first, befor you install the WUPG98, if you want to use the KernelEX functions afterwards still.
