Hello,

I have noticed that Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 installer contacts the Internet during the installation, and if no Internet connection is available, it takes very long time before these queries will time out.

More details:

The IE installer is checking the digital signature of all components installed. On Windows Me it tries to load Certificate Revocation List from http://crl.microsoft.com/pki/crl/products/CodeSignPCA.crl . Surprisingly it does not try to load the CRL on Windows 98.

And now the question - how to avoid this behavior?

Give it a different OS version from API?

Redirect domain to 0.0.0.0 via HOSTS?

Or configure your firewall [if using any] to deny access [both ways] to ie6setup.exe and ie6wzd.exe [both TCP + UDP], any port.

This results in very very long installation time and this is what I want to avoid.

I just don't know why the CRL is checked for every package on Windows Me but not on Windows 98, is this some setting in Windows Me?
