After spending some more time looking through the forums here, I've found a fix for most of the problems on my OS. Thanks to a lot of helpful posts, things are running smoother, and faster, than they have in a long time.

But STILL it takes my Windows 98SE almost 20 minutes to fully boot up! What is wrong with my OS, and how can I fix it?! Help, please! T.T

There is a patch on Microsofts website for Just that thing. My OS was dragging when it shut down.Just download the puppy, fire it up,install it and all will be fixed. But if it doesn't,It probably becasue the computer is running a saftey Hardware CHecks and memory Scan.

>>>Any way...here is the Link to the restart/shutdown -------- >>>patchHere is the Patch

I installed the patch, and rebooted my pc... unfortunately, it didn't help any. I guess I should clarify that the computer has no problems shutting down. It operates quickly, and works fine UNLESS it's booting up.

While the screen is displaying the "WINDOWS 98" screen.. and has that little blue bar at the bottom is when it seems to lag.. almost freeze. Has anybody else ever had this problem specificaly?

I wouldn't think that it's performing any Safety Hardware Checks, or Memory Scans... Other programs that run comprehinsive scans/checks/fixes, run perfectly well.

Post your system specs. I'm thinking your hard disk is getting old and ready to die, as highly diminished read/write speeds are a sign of this.

Well.. like I said... the computer is running better now that it probably ever has. The links from this site have helped me really clean it up, and give it some new pep. There's nothing at all wrong with the way the PC operates BESIDES the slow startup. sad.gif
Everything besides the startup, no matter what it is, works fine.

EDIT: .. that, and I'm not sure what specs you mean, or where I would get them from.
