what's the difference between the xp student and xp pro? are they the same?

and the fun of once your not a student i belive you gotta buy a new copy of XP ..
its like the students ver of MS programs / OS
once your finished / not a student
its uninstall time .. but im sure you knew that already

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition - Academic Version is a full XP Pro Version (Full Retail variant that is considered a upgrade) priced low for students, the use is for of course Academic purposes. If you purchase it then it has limitations on its uses and license. Such as you have to be enrolled with certian minium credit hours. If you are transfered a license(depending on the license agreement with Microsoft), meaning you were give a copy (usually required a low cost of 10-20 USD) for a certian major(s) or classes. In some cases it states that you are required to graduate the major to retain the license. Their is more details regarding the license at this link (US Academic Site).

I got Academic Edition copy when I asked of an upgrade edition, no question´s asked

There are 2 different Academic programs available. The first is an Academic License, this license actually belongs to the school and must be upgraded or removed once the student leaves the school. Technically this is only an upgrade license but the media doesn't check for compliance. The second is Academic Editions of Full Packaged Products. These can be used perpetually by the owner but some products have limitations on commercial use. These are available in Full or Upgarde versions.

Would they really care whether you uninstalled it or not? I think that's a moot point. As long as you're not using it commercially.

Another thing to consider with student versions of MS software, is that you can't usually upgrade them.
If you have XP Student, you can't upgrade it to Vista with an upgrade edition. You have to buy the full product.
Same goes for MS Office, IIRC.
