SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 3.25

January 1st, 2007 - The Internet:

"Sabayon is an Italian dessert made with egg yolks, sugar, a sweet liquor (usually Marsala wine), and sometimes cream or whole eggs. It is a very light custard, which has been whipped to incorporate a large amount of air." Source: Wikipedia.

SabayonLinux brings to your Computer the most advanced and cutting edge Linux software available nowadays. This version is a major bug fix release with a few surprises!

A happy new years to all! And thank you all for the considerable donations, they will help with the development in the future! And now, on to your Jan. 1st New Years gift from good ol' SabayonLinux Wink

Special suprise
We are now considered by the Beryl developers the official distribution. Why...? Don't ask us, just ask Quinn_Storm, one of the main developers that switched to using SabayonLinux!
Because of this, beryl being our 3D provider, we will keep the development communication line wide open and will mutually work together to bring a more stable, better, faster, and quite frankly, more awesome experience to you the user.
The beryl ebuilds for SabayonLinux and any gentoo users will continued to be handled through the SabayonLinux overlay.

SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 3.26

January 7th, 2007

Today we release the last bugfix release of the 3.2 branch of Sabayon Linux x86 and x86-64 before heading back into 3.3 development. As I said, this is mostly a bugfix release and here below you can find the changes.

[BF] means bugfix, [F] means feature:

* [BF] Linux kernel 2.6.19 with:
* --> sata_promise driver now supports PATA connectors too
* --> ata_mpiix and pata_oldmpiix updates (this should hopefully fix kernel panics with Intel boards)
* --> pata_sis updates (same as above)
* [BF] Ndiswrapper updated to 1.34rc2
* [BF] KVM now is detected and works out of the box on VT-enabled CPUs
* [BF] KDE Print Control Panel now works
* [BF] bcm43xx firmwares have been updated
* [BF] nvidia-legacy-drivers now triggers correctly (still experimental)
* [F] Abiword has been updated to 2.4.6
* [F] Democracy Player has been updated to 0.9.2.1
* [BF] Amarok now works
* [F] ALSA updated to 1.0.14rc1
* [F] Flash Player updated to 9.0.21.78
* [F] XGL updated to 0.0.1_pre20061108
* [BF] Installer: multi user configuration now works
* [BF] Installer: doslowusb is now triggered correctly
* [BF] Installer: libata migration tool now should solve most of the issues automatically
* [F] Highly improved boot time by triggering doslowusb only when really needed, this allows to save 30 seconds during the Live boot process when there isn't any usb-storage device connected
* [F] OpenGL autoconfiguration now takes half of the time to autoconfigure your video card and in case of Open Source drivers it takes no time at all
* [F] OpenGL autoconfiguration now detects Radeon <9000 cards with much more accuracy
* [F/B] NoMachine NX Server Free Edition has now the proper licence key and the startup is a lot faster

Hi all welcome.gif , sry my last post was wrong xD

MeoW 3.0 is now nearly finished and will be released with MeoW 2.0 , the last slackware release. MeoW 3.0 is now our best live release , it based on arch linux and has a base size with gnome of 267 MB shifty.gif

We are very proud of our new MeoW and we hope to give the community a new good distro. But slackware user don't worry , we also release MeoW 2.0 "slacky cat" , it is same up to date like MeoW ( except system packages like dbus and udev ).

Sabayon Linux x86/x86-64 miniEdition 3.3
QUOTE
SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 miniEdition, commonly called the "mini", is the CD release of the latest SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 DVD. The creation of this special version, has been made with an automatic script that shrinks down the whole chroot jail by removing every duplicated, useless or server-oriented package. The multimedia features of these special editions are kept intact. So, enjoy that beautiful piece of software on a single CD!

I see over at Distrowatch that Sabayon is quite popular. I have used several distros with success. Slackware being one of my favorites, but for some reason Sabayon is causing me grief. I think its because my video is built in type. PCLinuxOS works flawless, so does opensuse and ubuntu, but not Sabayon. I hear great things about this release. I do get it installed but can't make it use 1024x768 to save my life. It always wants 800x640.
Camarade_Tux
Try xorgsetup outside of X. It is quick to go through (if it is not then I've missed the names again and you should be running xorgconfig instead). Of course it can also create bad xorg.conf files but its output is usually very good. And if something goes wrong you can still try to check by yourself. smile.gif

The MeoW web site is under now!

Thus, can't download MeoW! realmad.gif

i'll look into this new Sabayon release, i actually really like it...i've used 3.4 a lot, and i love it..i like installing it with the Fluxbox environment, and it performs great..although not so friendly with the laptop.

i would definitely suggest this distro for others.
S.SubZero
I tried Sabayon 3.4 briefly. I installed it, said "wow cool default theme", then loaded the KDE theme configuration, changed some stuff, then couldn't figure out how to get the default theme back. I went on their IRC channel and got the dreaded:

"There's no easy way to do that."

Deleted the VM and forgot about it.
awergh
i tried sabayon recently not sure what version, anyway it took hours to install and then it didnt have an easy way to install the nvidia drivers which was sad and then i edited xorg.conf and it stuffed up and it didnt let me back into command line after xserver failed to start, i think i prefer ubuntu
