Canon ML-2510 printer USB under XP installs fine.

Trying to install the same setup under Windows98SE. The printer installs okay using 98/ME drivers, but there appears to be no option to use a USB port, only the parallel port. Anyone know how to get it to work with USB? Thanks.

Never heard of a Canon ML-2510. The only ML-2510 I know of is a Samsung. Is it rebadged? Where can we find info about it?

Hi Sam,

You might find an updated driver on Canon's website. I had to do that for my USB HP printer. The "driver" was a 14 MB program. rolleyes.gif

Rats! I meant to say Samsung. Most of my previous printers were Canon. Anyway, I bought myself an old prrinter cable and will use that when I run 98.

I remember similiar situation with HP Deskjet 3600 printer on Win98. When i'm try to install software and drivers by the 'setup.exe' (autostart from cd) i get errors, and system dont's see usb device for printing.
But solution is very simple in my case - I install drivers by control panel/ printers - add new printer - '.. have disk' - and I choose specific directory on cd with drivers for win98. It's working for me, and i'm printing by usb without any problems.

I experienced this with HP printers and scanners. Just refuse to install on USB on Win98. However, when you force the USB install it works fine. And HP printers that don't have a parallel port install fine too. Very bad setup.exe if you ask me.
