When clicking on a link to a PDF file it takes a long time before it loads.
Thats ok...
But it says it cant open it and asks me to save it to open from there.

Hi Shark,

The file exist in the folder and more the Acrobat Reader is working fine.
The history:
in february 17 I have download the Acrobat in Portuguese Br from www.sharksfiles.com and its not work;
in february 24 I again download the Acrobat file but from www.jtow.net/~triess/index.htm and now its work without problem.
I do not have explication for this fact.
I do not have more the download file from february 17 for comparation wiht download file february 24.

Actually I have do an addon install from svcpack with file and its work (install/uninstall) without problem.

I'll consider it - time permitting, and ONLY if it can be done with Orca. I see no need to create a tutorial for an expensive product like AdminStudio etc. because in my opinion, if you bought it, you should probably already know how to use it.

Hi Shark, i have problems when open a PDF from Firefox (it appears an error after a minute) but it only happens when I'm using your spanish ar8 lite version (date at 5-02-07), i don't have problems with english and emetre edition AR8 lite.

I also have it, Spanish version, and works perfect on Firefox 2.0.0.2!!! It only takes the time to connect to the server and download the PDF file.

Shark007 the last spanish version you posted works fine.

JaCk0es try to download it again. Uninstall your previous version, reboot, install the new one and try to open a PDF file from a fast server. It works fine...

Have you tried it with the one posted?

I just said it wasnt compatible because i havent tested the method.
I know it will install from svcpack, but what may fail is uninstall.

I also know they work fine from runonceex because i use this method.
And no, I won't be trying to make it compatible if it fails.

I'm having a little problem with italian version: check for update doesn't work, if I select it from "?" menù nothing happens... can you check that please?

The update feature is a removed item. I suggest you try the download from Adobe.
That will give you a full featured viewer with nothing stripped out.

My installers are NOT meant for desptop use, they are meant to add to an unattended CD.
In this instance space is precious and every kb counts.

If a user needs a full featured reader they can uninstall my version and install the FULL version.

Hi Shark, I have to say you have done a FANTASTIC job with this AR lite thingy... it get rids of all those stupid yahoo popups and many other annoying programs.

I create these installers specifically for MSFN users to assist them in creating unattended installation media. This is also the reason why i avoid posting links to my files or my repository. You will need to be a logged in MSFN user to see my signature to get the URL's.

I also recommended Adobe lite reader extreme edition on neowin forum to sys builders and enthusiats gathered around Autopatcher project

I have tried installing the English versions of Extreme and Lite. Both went through installation without any errors. However, neither will start.

- The Event Log is full of SideBySide errors
- When starting Adobe Reader "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". Which produces more SideBySide errors.

I've tried reinstalling both several times.

Why is this not working for me?

SideBySide errors usually indicate missing runtime libraries.

The Extreme version is missing them intentionally,
but the Lite version does have them.

I test on a clean Install of XP SP2
If your operating system is less than this, the installation is not supported.

Thank you for your response, I do appreciate that very much.

This was a clean install of Windows XP Home SP2 about 3 weeks ago. It is an OEM Builder's Licence disc which is full Windows XP Home SP2 with nothing missing, and no garbage added. It was then brought up-to-date with AutoPatcher. Nothing has been removed from the OS and I do not use any programs like nLite at all to remove components and such.

Steps:
- Removed official Adobe Reader 8
- Installed your Extreme package (did not work, same error)
- Removed your Extreme package
- Installed your Reader 8 Lite package (did not work, same error)

Unless somehow the uninstall of the official Adobe Reader 8 messed with these runtimes, I do not know.

What runtimes are these exactly? From Adobe or from Microsoft?

Do you know of a package of these runtimes alone that I can download anywhere?

My installers are 7zip self extract archives.

If you examine the contents of the Lite version compared to the extreme version you will notice the Lite version has a Windows directory. This is the Microsoft runtime libraries. You may try adding the files within the Lite versions Windows\system32 directory to your system32 directory. This may solve your issue.

The winsxs directory is the actual sidebyside information directory
but i dont think you can place these files manually because they coincide with registry settings.

I extracted the 7z SFX archive and manually copied the system32 and winsxs directories as you had suggested. It works now as expected. Thank you.

Do you know if anybody has done any benchmark testing comparing your lite builds to the official reader?
I honestly don't notice much of a difference, which is the reason I am asking that question.

The main repository and the mirror are 2 totally different sites although they share an identical blocklist. Your domain/ISP may have been added to the blocklist. If anyone from your ISP was attempting to direct link to my repositories the entire ISP gets blocked. I check server statistics twice daily and any suspicious activity gets permanantly blocked. This will not change.

If you state what version (language specific) you seek, I'll upload it to a free file server for you.

A little tip:

If you, like me, prefer to have a completely silent installation, then you can just use '7zSplit.exe' to split the SFX installer into there original seperate components, i.e. 'archive.7z', 'config.txt' and '7zS(D).sfx' and then just change the 'RunProgram=' command line from e.g. '/qb' to '/qn'(if dealing with '.msi' installers), and then also add GUIMode="2" and re-join the SFX installer from the command prompt with the moded '7ZSD.sfx'(if the SFX installer dosen't use it allready). Also, you can repack the 7z archive and delete 'msistub.exe'(if it's included), since the modified SFX module can run '.msi' installers directly from 'RunProgram='. I am personally going to do this to shark's great 'Adobe Reader 8.0 Lite' and 'Sun JRE 6.0 Update 1' switchless installers before i add them to my 'XPCD\$OEM$\$1\install\' folder.
