thanks. just a suggestion. it cannot search in files, displays an error saying that a plugin is missing. also, when connected to internet, it downloads some plugins. i couldnt see wich though.

Downloaded and I must say it is faster than stripped ver7 and of course has got great features.

thanks for the corrections. would you mind makin an spanish installer. im mexican and have all my stuff in english but many comp users here just want all spanish. thanks.

Last time i checked, Spanish was not yet available.
I will do one for Spanish when Adobe makes it available.

I just figured out how to remove the 'Beyond Adobe Reader' screen that pops up on 1st use so expect the files to be updated soon. I'll post again once i have updated the files.

I know this is not svcpack compatible, but can I make the switchless installer into an addon and then just integrate it using nlite.

I am pretty new to all this, so I would appreciate the help.

A perfect example for you to learn from is my integration file offered for the codec package. There is a link to it in the 1st post of the codec package thread. It contains a switchless installer executed after 1st boot. It will be easy for you to use that as a template to do this on your own.

The edges around the bright red area are jagged. I don't know if that matters to you, but it looks odd to me.

What jagged edges? (insert evil laughter here)

To share this one with others, I'll explain:
When I posted v8 on my repository, the icon image i used was extremely poor.
Dumpy hotlinked that image when making the above posting.
I replaced the poor image on my repository with a higher resolution image,
which subsequently changed the image in Dumpy's post.

(compare yours AR 7.0.8 Lite and his - his has even less files/features left yet works ok for me. His is 6.25MB, yours is 7.95MB - please compare files inside both installer - his has fewer files).

ps there's also 7.0.8a out - I'd appreciate Lite version of it, too (Vid0 style prefereably - with the same file choice).

Sorry, i am not Vid0 and my installation is quite different.
I'm sure he/she will eventually release a version for you to use since that is what you prefer.
Currently I have no knowledge of 708a, and will only look into it if it is for a language other than english, and v8 is not available in the given language.

Hopefully a Spanish user can explain to you that Adobe has not released a v8 in Spanish therefore i cannot create a Lite version yet either.

Hi,
I tried the new release and all worked great except the Help function.
Clicking on Help(F1) causes a crash. (XP+W2k)
I would therefore suggest to include the help files since AR8 may have new operation/functions compared to 7.0.8

I wasnt aware of this problem. I didnt specifically remove the help files. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'll look into this and hopefully release updated files soon.

This is a fully functional reader
- it is available in english only
- it has no help files (trying to access help will crash the reader)
- it has no updater features
- it has no runtime libraries

If you want to disable annoying autoupdate after install, just move the updater.api to the Optional folder.
Seems to work with other plugins too.

All I'm missing is the ability to fill out pdf forms (which I do rarely but happen to need now and then).
Does it suffice to copy AcroForm.api from the regular Reader release into the Optional folder as Muchlux wrote?

First of all throughout a wonderful New Year that's happy from the start...

I spent 2 days try repacking Adobe Reader 8 without success... I couldn't get the folders (Common, CommonAppData, program files and Windows) and the .msi file like in yr ar8lite_eng.exe.

In fact, like everybody i downloaded the original AdbeRdr80_en_US.exe, launched it and recover from C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\Adobe Reader 8.0 the files Abcpy.ini, AcroRead.msi, Data1.cab, setup.exe and Setup.ini (39MB).
At this point, with reader 7.0x it was possible to launch an administrative install (setup.exe /a) to recover all folders and .msi file like yours. There is no more administartive install with reader 8, swithes available but should keep 39MB (swithes: /sPB - silent mode with progress bar; /rs - reboot suppress; /rps - reboot prompt suppress; /ini "path" - alternative initialization file; /sl "lang_id" - set language; /l - enable error logging; /msi [command line] - parameters for MSIEXEC).

By launching (reader 8) setup.exe i could get the
Common folder in C:\Program Files\Common\"Adobe"
CommonAppData in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\"Adobe"
program files in C:\Program Files\"Adobe\Adobe Help Viewer" and C:\Program Files\"Adobe\Reader 8.0
regarding Windows i had to find the files in C:\windows\System32 and C:\windows\winsxs.
When i got all those folders and files, AcroRead.msiwas NOT able to install the reader8, it looking for Data1.cab.

Just for my knowledge, may you be kind to unveil yr know how.

I've just would like to know what may be the differences between Adobe Reader and Fox it reader....because I've found both read .PDF and fox it reader using less system resources comparing with great system resource for adbe reader
why do me or other may still need to use fox it reader?

well, fox it reader is fast and has less features like adobe reader such as digital signatures, more pdf iso-standard complaining and security features like embedded media in pdf. if you want to read "plain" pdf files stick to foxit, if you need form filling and the other features use adobe's.

On a more serious note, updating my releases is 1/2 the fun, sharing my releases is the other 1/2

Feel free to post a notice when anything i release is updated by the authors. (except for codecs)
I'm a busy person and am not always aware of the real world.
