Added newer WMASF.DLL 10.0.0.4359 from WMP10 for WinXP SP2 Q941569 (MS07-068).

Enjoy.

Now, if I want the improvements of the newer version of 98MP10 do I just install this new one even though the last one was already installed? Or would I need to restore the original backed up files first? It would be nice if just installing the new one took care of things.

Does the backup process let me toggle it off if the original 98SE, WMP files have already been backed up so I wouldn't want this install to overwrite them? I know 98SE2ME has that option.

1. Yes, 98MP10 installs all files every time you install it.
It's not [at least not yet] as sophisticated as 98SE2ME. ;(

2. No.
In order to keep your old files [backed up by 98MP10], you need to 1st uninstall 98MP10, and then reinstall it.
Again, 98MP10 is not [at least not yet] as sophisticated as 98SE2ME.

Maybe, in the future, I'll add file version check to make sure backups will not be overwritten.
Please note that this will add to the file size, and 98MP10 is already 7.5 MB.
BTW:
I'm actually considering deleting the entire backup section from the INF, because all files seem to work ok so far.

WMVCORE.DLL from this fix belongs to WMP9:
WMVCORE.DLL build 9.0.0.3353

Most files from 98MP10 are from WMP10.

But this WMVCORE.DLL belongs into the "ultimate" WMP9 build, which I'm [still] working on [soon...]. newwink.gif

Hello, rodrigo_rds, and welcome to MSFN forums.

As I have told Eck, to my knowledge the explorer problem is not related to 98MP10.

I tried running the enhancement to MP10 features but then my Zen Sleek Photo was not recognized by the player. I too didn't see a change in features (is it all under the hood, so to speak?) except that it wouldn't recognize my device. Returning to MP9, my device is recognized....

I've now tried it twice with same results. My Zen Sleek Photo is recognized fine with 9.0 but if I load this enhancement, then the Zen is not recognized...

no worries, just though you (and others) may want to know. Maybe there are others that have devices and can verify if seen in 9 and 10. If you have any portable device that can be seen with 9.....etc....(maybe not just a zen sleek issue).

Keep up the super work you do!

98MP10 doesn't work well on Win ME.

http://www.image-share.net/image/4199/29.JPG

First error is: "error during loading of powrprof.dll", second error is "setupapi.dll not found".
Infact after 98mp10 installation, in c:\windows\system there is only setupapi.mp9 and not .dll:

http://www.image-share.net//image/4199/setupapi.JPG

Renaming setupapi.mp9 in setupapi.dll, and rebooting the problem is solved.

Instead to be advpack.dll, there is only advpack.mp9

Renaming in advpack.dll, I can finally uninstall my unofficial SP.

What do you mean?
98MP10 is a complete package and installs everything you need on Win98/98SE/ME, which means installs all WMP10 files [offline, does not connect to any server to d/l files] compatible with 9x Oses, only if WMP9 was already installed, of course.
Please see the ReadMe for details:
http://www.mdgx.com/98mp10/98MP10.TXT

You don't need any separate WMP10 files.
And WMP10 on its own cannot install on 9x OSes anyway, WMP10 is only for XP/2003.
And you don't need to download WMP10 from any other computer, it is available from M$ servers:
http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#WMP10

Hi, MDGx:

Way back then, you used to distribute:

ADVPACK.DLL 6.0.2900.2180
ASCTRLS.OCX 6.0.2900.2180
BROWSELC.DLL 6.0.2900.2180

as part of 98SE2XP. Then you reverted to older
files, and they aren't part of the present 98MP10.

Could you please tell me what issues did they cause?
I've looked arround both the forum and your site, but
didn't find any hint on what happened. And I found no
version history for 98MP10 that reached to 98SE2XP

use any of them? Thank you all!

I have removed those 6.0.2900.xxxx files because they are meant for MS IE 6.0 SP2 , which is installed by XP SP2.
I recall having some minor issues while using them a while back, so I reverted back to older XP SP1 [MS IE 6.0 SP1] files, which provide better compatibility with 9x OSes.

But if you'd like to use them, please feel free to do so.
Just download XP SP2 [266 MB]:
http://www.mdgx.com/xp.htm#SP2
and extract them using either WinZip 9/10 or PowerArchiver.
Then decompress the actual files from *.DL_ and *.OC_ by using EXTRACT.EXE.

Thanks for the feedback, MDGx. thumbup.gif

Well, I've actually been testing some MS IE 6.0 SP2 files for a while, so
here are my findings:

I've used BROWSELC.DLL 6.0.2900.2180 for some time but gave up on it,
because I found it to be too resource-hungry:
I'd get a Low Resource error message just by browsing around the MSFN
forum in Hi-Fi Version, and if I don't change to the Lo-Fi Version
quickly enough, my system would go down to 0% GDI resources with all
the usual associated bad things happening...
I've reverted to BROWSELC.DLL 6.0.2800.1106 and this issue went away.

It seems that PROBLEMCHYLD had found a similar problem with BROWSELC.DLL
6.0.2900.2180, in a rather different scenario. See:
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...p;p=567490&

On the other hand, I've been using the 6.0.2900.2180 builds of
BROWSEWM.DLL SHDOCLC.DLL and SFOLDER.DLL for about a fortnight now,
with no apparent problems happening so far. However, if I ever find
any issues with any of them I'll sure post about them.

But, in view of your message I've decided to downgrade to build
6.0.2800.1106 ADVPACK.DLL and ASCTRLS.OCX, just to be on the safe
side.

I do realize that I'm perhaps somewhat off-topic with this message, blushing.gif
but since half the files here mentioned were once part of 98SE2XP, I felt
this would be the place to post. Should I have posted to the main updates
+ patches + (hot)fixes topic? Please advise.

Thanks once more.
Best wishes.

Hi MDGx!

I just got through a new 98SE install including 98MP10. I wanted to tell you about a thing in this program, and also a thing in 98SE2ME that I'll put up in that thread.

For this one, I got a missing DLL that apparently has to do with splash screens. After using 98MP10 and starting the SBLive 5.1 Liveware install I got a, ""required DLL file was not found MSASN1.DLL."

I ignored it and it all installed fine, but at restart after the Liveware install I got the error again, along with, "Ctavstub-illegal operation-exception in ASDXM.OCX."

Well, since it happened twice I went into System File Checker and extracted MSASN1.DLL from the 98SE install files and had it put it into the System folder.

Seemed to do the trick as on the bootup following I got the annoying Creative music and, "EAX," pronouncement.

I have no idea about that ASDXM.OCX and since I didn't get any more errors I'm ignoring that one.

I'll post the 98SE2ME thing in that thread. Hey! So far things are working.
Eck
Well now, things are still going nicely following using Auto-Patcher again to install the latest updates included in the new August version.

In addition to what I reported about earlier, I do want to mention that I had forgotten about that old Windows Media 7 Bonus Pack (or, even the 9 version one your pack used to install at one time). I've always wondered whether stuff from that had anything to do with assorted problems that I'd encounter, and also recall that running the 7 Bonus Pack installer after using 98MP10 resulted in it failing to complete installation.

Since it's not a need, I haven't bothered with it. But I remember there were some nice skins and visualizations, file converters, etc that would be nice to have. But again, not a necessity.

Was there a reason you took that newer 9 Bonus Pack out of the set at some point? Perhaps it caused some problem? I also remember that your version was the only way to get the 9 version of it to install on 98SE. Only the 7 version's installer would run on 98SE but you got around that somehow.

PROBLEMCHYLD, this topic is for Windows Media Player.
MSVBVM60.DLL is a Visual Basic library and is not really part of any package.
It will probably be included in Auto-Patcher and Unofficial Service Pack.

Hello, the new MP9URP9X June 2008 release install files more recent than those contained in the package 98MP10.
When a new version?
Bye.

I will have to test which files work from MP9URP9X + XP SP3, so I need some spare time... soon I hope.

About removing DRM:
I will add an INF file anybody can run from a simple batch file, to remove DRM files + reg entries [move them to a backup folder] and another INF to restore them, if any1 cares to do so.

I will post here the updates when I have them.

About WMPBAND.DLL:
The 1 u need should be in "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player" .
Delete the 1 in %windir%\SYSTEM .

Thanks.
