Supports both Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Description:
The Vistapack was originally made with the same tech as XPize to transform your old and boring Windows 2000 rig in a modern looking and feeling OS. But when XP support started developing it got a whole new purpose: To transform your old and boring Windows 2000 and Windows XP rigs in a modern looking and feeling OS.

Safety:
It takes the files from the host, backs it up, modifies a sample and puts the modified file back in the system.
This ensures that you are using the latest files so no need for alerts like "Now I am using an old file, what if its updated by m$? Then i will be open for attack..."

Nope, no need to worry. You keep the updated file.

The pack uses ResHacker to change icons, bitmaps and some dialogs, to make it look like the new Windows Vista!

Its rather safe in my opinion, but of course there are some risks when you modify system files.

This is at your own risk!!!

But no need to worry, there are few bugs that cause your pc not to boot or something.
Personally i did not had that happening here.
Of course, when you don't like it, you can uninstall the pack like any other software.

I looked at the toolbar icons of explorer, it was reported that they were ugly and
cuttoff when set to big icons.
Well, i dont see that on my 2000, maybe we have to look somewhere else?
Let me know if you can tell me where.

Second try of getting the folders of outlook in vistastyle...
Updated the icons in inetcplc.dll

Updated a icon in mmcshext, it was still 256 color.

Netid.dll icon updated, man it was ugly...

=====Extras============================================

Vdrive icons updated, i need help from somebody that is good with autoit.
I want to include icons for removable drives but dont know how.

I also changed the update time for the Vdrive from 10 to 1 minute.

=====Installer===========================================

Hopefully fixed the theme installment on XP.
And added a uxtheme patcher to that process.

Shell32 and sysdm are now fixed for "unsupported languages", remember... untill
i get the right language dialogs, the dialogs will be in english.

The debug mode is now only accessible with the cmdline option "debug".

damian666, I am interested in the XP derivate of your Pack, for using with VistaLuna Basic from Pgase, as an alternative to XPize Darkside.

Should we work together in development?

As some know i wrote a lot weeks ago i want create a XPize_Win2000 - Pack.

Through contributing here i see a community working on similar solutions - but other resources und in parts concepts.

Though my Win2K Prof should nearly look like the WinXP Prof but the last OS as Vista (the look, only few extras).

But all that must be please with not to much consumption of system resources!

How can I work with you (other then testing)?

vista pack for win2000 1.3a:Damian,Problems on my side new version 1.3 can't full install(no tclok & 32 bits),try to reinstall and the same troubles.

hi man, well thats strange.
on my home pc it works without a single error.
about the second time you install, the rpl2k is in use so it cant be installed again.
just check if its in the system32 dir.
if it is regsvr32.exe it.
if you get a error than it is allready registered.
so please can you translate the screenshots, i dont understand them
so let me know.
and maybe you should uninstall it before you install again.

p.s. the error about a missing file mscoree is because you dont have dot.net2 installed.
its needed for the patch for the tray icons.
so install that or dont use the patch.

damian:all ok about the dot.net2 but i think that is a languaje dependat insue in the installer.
The instaler place tclok3 and cursor files in the default"Program Files" directory....in my Spanish
win2k default"Program Files"=C:\Archivos de programa.....but the instaler loking for the reg file
into Program Files not the default "Program Files"(languaje dependant).For that reason if manual
import the two reg files(cursor and tclok3.reg) y must copy also tclok3 and cursor to a C:\Program Files(Default english directory)
2ºProblem installer, put the cursor files in:C:\Archivos de programa\%windir ; not in C:\WINNT\Cursors
I must copy the content of C:\Archivos de programa\%windir\cursors to C:\WINNT\Cursors

BSOD with STOP Error! Reason: DLL user.dll moved to kernel memory!

This is also in the maintenance mode

How can i now repair my Win2K (in his own partition) from within WinXP?

Another member of german-nlite.de wondered cause of internationalization. Some text resources are in dutch!

2nd Edit:
The Error is in early phase of boot when loading the system... I restore user.exe and user32.dll from my (former nLited) Win2K-Bootmedia.

Unfortanely i haven't a installation media with your pack integrated! How can that be done (within running Windows XP)?

Just 1 bug languaje dependat....tclok is instaled ok in my "program files" lenguaje dependant folder("Archivos de programa") and the aces to that is corect located at the start folder languaje dependat ("inicio"in spanish), but the direct acces to tclok.ink go to C:\Program files\tclok\tclok.exe that is lenguaje dependant wrong ,and in the Spanish example is:c:\Archivos de programa\tclok\tclok.exe....I corret the direct acces by hand but not work ...you included any .reg file for Tclok? or i think that you must modified the file Vista.ini(languaje dependant incorrect )

2º bug:256 colour systray icons pach work at the first time during install....after reboot first time
256 colors not working any more???

I needed to reinstall my Win2K. After that i tried your Pack again -> same error as i wrote above!

Blue screen of death in early boot phase after installing:

Stop Error c0000269: illegal move of system dll: kernel32.dll was moved to user space - users32.dll moved to kernel space.

same problem here on my win2k sp4. how to solve this? where to get the user.dll back?

hi guys, well after some looking at it, its because the user32.dll is corrupt.
dont use that option on install.
btw i dont understand it because at my home pc it works fine.
to recover it, hopefully you have another os installed.
take out the backup file and replace the .dll in system32.

Another issue:

The sysdm.cpl speeks dutch in my german Windows:

"Algemeen" instead of "Allgemein"
"Verwaardigt en ondersteund door " instead of "Hergestellt und unterstützt durch":



How can be that solved?

well, first off all, i dont have the translated file.
and second, im trying to make the installer mui.
but also that he installs the right language file.
so if your lang is german, it installs german-sysdm.cpl.
but to be honest with you guys...
im learning this as i go so dont expect wonders from me man

Not a problem :-) I recovered the User32.dll with Ubuntu and NTFS-3G. I rather recover the file instead of not having a great looking win2k system. thanks for your hard work demian666!

Are there any 'how it should look' screenshots?
All those posted look like broken to me.

because i think i have found a way to install multi lang files.
i need german, french, english, and spanish.
dutch is my own so.
the dialogs that change are: sysdm.cpl dialog 101
and shell32.dll dialogs 1003, 1014, 1020.

But while my actualstandard Win2000-Installation includes my own alpha version XPize4Win2K Pack i have to do an additional install (have a free partition for your Pack).

BTW i will use the new opensource XPize for making betas of my pack, wait few days then i will post more in a neighbour thread (or a pointer to its thread in XPize forum)...

Damian....one cuestion why u used the 256 colour icons.exe pach for explorer, instead of just a
explorer.exe.32bitimgl in the windows 2000 default install directory (WINNT).You don't need to pach explorer,
internet conection is not needed to pach,and works for all languajes and explorer versions.
Autopach.exe 592kb compresed file.....explorer.exe.32bitimgl = 0kb
Let Tihiy's RPL2K.DLL do the job

I am using this. It is nice and uses very little resources. Some of the icons like recycle bin are not complete, almost like they are broken.

Can you add vista like start bar?

Good product recomend to windows 2000 users.

well the vistalike startbar is allready there, but you have to enable it.
right-click the clock and open tclock pref.
there you select load settings and then choose the vista.ini that you see.

Explorer replacement cmd file not work on my old pentium III-866MHZ
after isntall the new 1.3.4 file bad instructions for processor?....i can´t boot
or rum the cmd, booting in safe mode too same cmd insue error(bad instructions for processor).I must use a live cd to put explorer.exe in c:\winnt folder (i copy it fron:C:\WINNT\Vistapack 2000 beta\Patched-I386\explorer.exe
All ok after that

shell32.dll dialogs 1003, 1014, 1020 the installer not replace
the correct language....in my case Spanish.Dialogs in Duch lang.


The multilang file is corrected instaled in system32 folder,but use Duch no Spanish??

becuz thats a file that i dont localize, so dont understand why it wont work.
its the same as previous versions...
so thats weird huh...
and what do i need for the themes thingy?

About Themes.cpl....I Do it!!!just u need to traslate a litle
string as u can see in the capture(look at the icon cuality too).I upload the Spanish Theme.cpl..put it on
system32 folder and create a default C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes
Folder as default *.THEMES files folder.
I just create a file also for testing(vista fell3.theme).....not replace iconset,just
color scheme ,a wallpaper,a new scrensaver,and vista plastic cursors you can Download cpl file and

Is not a localize insue....is a installer insue.after installing,at first reboot the installer
try to rum a cmd in ms-dos window(cmd c:\winnt\explorer.exe) a warnig apear on
screen"bad instructions for processor" all stoped and just the new wallpaper...no options to
more.I try to boot in safe mode...same resoults.
To repair that i use a live-cd;when i look at winnt folder,I can find that the installer pached
the old explorer.exe file to a explorer.temp...and a explorer.exe 24kb long file apear too(i think
the pach for that file).For that, i think that the trouble is the cmd pach for explorer
I Replace that file for the explorer.exe included in "C:\WINNT\Vistapack 2000 beta\Patched-I386"
using the live cd for that trouble....and my win2k go alive again!!!

Damian:shell32.dll bug for Spanish language; as u can see replace country code 1034 for 3082(corect one code for Spanish lang).
Take a look you only use 3 languajes(Duch,German& spanish) in this file and English are not included???



Remenber to change Spanish Sysdm.cpl dialog 101 to include the Oeminf.inf
in Spanish lang...Sorry for my mistake
