Targaff
Apr 5 2007, 10:49 AM
Mmm, not sure entirely what I've done but it appears to be fixed here now - I had the problem until last night and haven't changed anything, but now the Places Bar is fine?!
There's definitely something going on with it somewhere, though.

I have that same problem with the 'Places Bar' - but only when opening or saving files from within Mozilla Firefox, and not from within any other app. Maybe that's why Targaff couldn't reproduce the problem - it appears only from within certain applications?

i can't get a good screenshot at the moment, i will asap, but i installed the revolutions pack 2.0, and it had helped, but marginally. the icons by the clock don't seem to be affected by the pack, they're still looking bad.
is there something i'm not doing?
for example, i pick an icon to use in winamp for the taskbar, and it looks crystal clear in winamps window, but by the clock it looks like crap. same with avast, trillian and comodo. also, is there any way to completely integrate just 32bit icons? like internet connection, sound, USB device, etc? it would look pretty cool...but so far, i'm more than satisfied...my system specs are in teh sig. taking hardly any sources that i'm seeing/noticing.
oh, and before i forget, theres a program called Glass2k, it enables you to make any window transparent, it has no effect on the icons whatsoever, simply amazing.

Yes, that's the explorer problem. Google "256-color explorer tray icon patch" or create empty file explorer.exe.32bitimgl in your \windows folder as a compromise solution.
As for good 32-bit icons, i can recommend you to try "Vista Icon Pack 3.0 system patch" which i'm using. It replaces icons almost everywhere.
Note: after installing it, you must replace your \windows\explorer.exe and \windows\system32\taskmgr.exe from backup (\windows\vip3 if i do remember) or you're risking to end with broken system. That's because it wasn't designed for 2k.
You can also try other icon packs [which are using RP] in this subforum. However, i didn't tried them.
Or you can wait for future RP which will support icon themes.

tihiy, when i trie to regsvr the new rpl2k.dll, it gives a message that it is corrupt or something, and that i might consider to use pview to check that.
did you make a change in that?
the first gives no problem...
any ideas?

Yes, as i said i've removed installer routines from DLL to make it a bit smaller.
You'll have to do 3 things yourself:
0) Copy rpl2k.dll into \windows\system32 [i think you may use replacer to be sure]. It is wise to keep it in that directory to be compatible with RP.
1) Add it into
AppInit_DLLs key.
2) Set
Shell Icon BPP to 32.

256k tweaked did it! thanks a lot. this system is actually my main, and now it looks great.
i had some trouble copying it, could someone post the exact way to use CMD to replace the file? i ended up putting the drive in my XP computer and switching there.
too bad i can't hide inactive icons though...
would integrating the explorer.exe from XP make a difference? i mean how possible would it be?

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g142/bon.../screenshot.jpgi want to thank everyones input on the fixes for windows 2000, thats a combination of 256k color fix, revolution pack and Transparency.
the effects of all of it can be show, and i think it looks great. maybe if theres a way to replace the Removable Device, Audio and Internet Connection icons in the future it'll look even better than it is.
also, does anyone know if theres a program to change the 2000 bootscreen? thats another think i like to customize with my installations.
other than that i'm satisfied completely. i think that if you can't run XP well on a system and you go to windows 2k, these programs should be a must have.

Hi! I have a problem with the pack: when I install it, it makes explorer crash 4 or 5 five times when i first open it. Then, when it stops crashing, and when i'm done "repairing Active Desktop", here's what my desktop looks like: (pic removed).
I also have a bug: some icons appear in 16-bits mode (for example: the windows media 10 icon).
Tihiy
Jun 17 2007, 05:08 AM
Oh my god.
Disable and kill Active Desktop with fire plz.
Update video card drivers, set 32-bit video mode, disable everything from startup, and then install RP.
That's what i can say for now
coolrom
Jun 17 2007, 05:28 AM
all already done except for "killing" active desktop, which i don't know how to do (AD is a part of my W2k and was installed with it).
Apparently I have the same problem with some icons in the start menu
Edit: It's strange, now it works. But I noticed 2 other bugs:
-when you select an icon with alpha shadow on the desktop, and then deselect it (by clicking anywhere), the shadow becomes darker. If you do that 5 or 6 times, the shadow will be completely black (pic 2). This can be corrected by clicking on the desktop link in the taskbar, or by moving the icon (but moving an icon makes all other icon's shadows become dark).
-when I load Windowblinds, the grey explorer icons become "grey holes" (pic 1)

just create a file in the same dir as explorer.exe called explorer.exe.32bitimgl
then when you reboot the rpl2k knows it has to patch it.
done...

if Win2k did ClearType and 32-bit icons, i bet some people would move to it from XP.

Hi all. First of all, I'd like to say that I'm delighted with this hack for Windows 2000. Best thing to happen in ages
Anyway, I'm not posting just to say so. I should report also what I'm experiencing with WinRAR. See:

This is WinRAR with FOOOD's Junior theme. As you can see, the alpha layer of the icons on the toolbar is rendered weirdly. All of these are 32 bit bmps. The way WinRAR shows the shell icons (see the "Confirm file replace" dialog) is even stranger.
There is a winrar.exe.32bitimgl file on WinRAR's folder and strangely enough it seems to be working (because when browsing the hard disk the alpha layered icons show just fine in the list, as you can see in the capture).
So, that's it. Issue reported
