Mmm, not sure entirely what I've done but it appears to be fixed here now - I had the problem until last night and haven't changed anything, but now the Places Bar is fine?!

There's definitely something going on with it somewhere, though.
Scramjet
I have that same problem with the 'Places Bar' - but only when opening or saving files from within Mozilla Firefox, and not from within any other app. Maybe that's why Targaff couldn't reproduce the problem - it appears only from within certain applications?
Dave.Net
Then I guess it's random. I get the bug from the 'Browse...' button within the standard 'Run' box.

i can't get a good screenshot at the moment, i will asap, but i installed the revolutions pack 2.0, and it had helped, but marginally. the icons by the clock don't seem to be affected by the pack, they're still looking bad.

is there something i'm not doing?

for example, i pick an icon to use in winamp for the taskbar, and it looks crystal clear in winamps window, but by the clock it looks like crap. same with avast, trillian and comodo. also, is there any way to completely integrate just 32bit icons? like internet connection, sound, USB device, etc? it would look pretty cool...but so far, i'm more than satisfied...my system specs are in teh sig. taking hardly any sources that i'm seeing/noticing.

oh, and before i forget, theres a program called Glass2k, it enables you to make any window transparent, it has no effect on the icons whatsoever, simply amazing.

Yes, that's the explorer problem. Google "256-color explorer tray icon patch" or create empty file explorer.exe.32bitimgl in your \windows folder as a compromise solution.
As for good 32-bit icons, i can recommend you to try "Vista Icon Pack 3.0 system patch" which i'm using. It replaces icons almost everywhere.
Note: after installing it, you must replace your \windows\explorer.exe and \windows\system32\taskmgr.exe from backup (\windows\vip3 if i do remember) or you're risking to end with broken system. That's because it wasn't designed for 2k.

You can also try other icon packs [which are using RP] in this subforum. However, i didn't tried them.
Or you can wait for future RP which will support icon themes.

tihiy, when i trie to regsvr the new rpl2k.dll, it gives a message that it is corrupt or something, and that i might consider to use pview to check that.
did you make a change in that?
the first gives no problem...
any ideas?

damian666
Tihiy
Yes, as i said i've removed installer routines from DLL to make it a bit smaller.

You'll have to do 3 things yourself:
0) Copy rpl2k.dll into \windows\system32 [i think you may use replacer to be sure]. It is wise to keep it in that directory to be compatible with RP.
1) Add it into AppInit_DLLs key.
2) Set Shell Icon BPP to 32.
damian666
ok, sorry man.
did not see that.
will try right away!

keep it up man.

damian666

btw, thanx for those links.
got the right reg entries from it!
bonestonne
256k tweaked did it! thanks a lot. this system is actually my main, and now it looks great.

i had some trouble copying it, could someone post the exact way to use CMD to replace the file? i ended up putting the drive in my XP computer and switching there.

too bad i can't hide inactive icons though...

would integrating the explorer.exe from XP make a difference? i mean how possible would it be?
Tihiy
A bit better thumbnails Windows+IE6 patch is available

Also, i've finally updated first post with RP2.0.
Dave.Net
Found another bug: XNview's toolbar is completely messed up after patch installation (and no, 32bitimgl file has nothing to do with it). My version is 1.82.4

You're right, it's terrible. Thx for finding this.
I'll fix it in 2.02.
Tihiy
RP 2.02 with fixed XNView toolbar bug attached to the first post
- Toolbar corruptions still not fixed unsure.gif
Dave.Net
Tihiy, what do you mean by toolbar corruptions?

I've noticed another bug in the 'Add/Remove Programs' list. Maybe it was already mentioned.

i want to thank everyones input on the fixes for windows 2000, thats a combination of 256k color fix, revolution pack and Transparency.

the effects of all of it can be show, and i think it looks great. maybe if theres a way to replace the Removable Device, Audio and Internet Connection icons in the future it'll look even better than it is.

also, does anyone know if theres a program to change the 2000 bootscreen? thats another think i like to customize with my installations.

other than that i'm satisfied completely. i think that if you can't run XP well on a system and you go to windows 2k, these programs should be a must have.

Tihiy is there any way to enable 32bit imagelists in control panel applets? I thought rundll32.exe.32bitimgl would do the trick but it doesn't.

.32bitimgl hack is limited by design.
Do you really need it much? I can patch any of them if you insist.
Dave.Net
Well, I think DESK.CPL would be my first choice.

However it would be nice to have a wider hack, because I see several lists lookin' like s**t (OE, Address Book, Regedit, MMC, etc.)

Worked perfectly. Icons look much better now. Good job man.
Dave.Net
Tihiy would you mind patching outlook express to display 32-bit images and 24px toolbars? Thanks in advance.

I've tried once, however, after driving myself mad patching those stupid imagelists Restorator destroyed my work and i've trown everything into garbage.
No one uses that s*** anyway.
Dave.Net
Sure it looks awful.

Too sad WLM doesn't run on 2k and Thunderbird is a f***in' resource eater. blink.gif
Dave.Net
Is this project dead?
Tihiy
Well, it is kinda stagnated.
Dave.Net
Sorry to "hear" that.
damian666
Hi tihiy, tell me...
is there a way to silent uninstall rpl2k?
the install works silent, but now how do i get the confirmation box to not show?

thanx in advance

Hi! I have a problem with the pack: when I install it, it makes explorer crash 4 or 5 five times when i first open it. Then, when it stops crashing, and when i'm done "repairing Active Desktop", here's what my desktop looks like: (pic removed).

I also have a bug: some icons appear in 16-bits mode (for example: the windows media 10 icon).
Tihiy
Oh my god.
Disable and kill Active Desktop with fire plz.
Update video card drivers, set 32-bit video mode, disable everything from startup, and then install RP.

That's what i can say for now unsure.gif
coolrom
all already done except for "killing" active desktop, which i don't know how to do (AD is a part of my W2k and was installed with it).
Apparently I have the same problem with some icons in the start menu

Edit: It's strange, now it works. But I noticed 2 other bugs:
-when you select an icon with alpha shadow on the desktop, and then deselect it (by clicking anywhere), the shadow becomes darker. If you do that 5 or 6 times, the shadow will be completely black (pic 2). This can be corrected by clicking on the desktop link in the taskbar, or by moving the icon (but moving an icon makes all other icon's shadows become dark).

-when I load Windowblinds, the grey explorer icons become "grey holes" (pic 1)

Yeah I noticed that too.

I guess it's not just on my computer then whistling.gif

Any news? updates on the way?
dirtwarrior
Can the dll be put in an $OEM$ folder and be up and ready to go at setup.
marxo
Well it registers with ShellIconBPP=32, and AppInit_DLLs=rpl2k.dll Tihiy can give u details about integrating it...
Dave.Net
hey Tihiy any news about this project?
Dilusion
does the setup also patch tray icons similar to this program

http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/win2000traypatch/
damian666
hi there, yes it does.
just create a file in the same dir as explorer.exe called explorer.exe.32bitimgl
then when you reboot the rpl2k knows it has to patch it.
done...

i couldnt find the link for vista icon pack v3 but ive finally found it because all the links i clicked were down. (found this on a chinease server. HEres the link smile.gif

http://download.pchome.net/design/icon/download_33867.html

use at your own risk you have to replace explorer.exe and anotherfile i dont remember archive in forums because its not designed for win2000
Dave.Net
I don't recommend using those packs. Reshacking system files by yourself is the way to go. I don't like having a 10MB shell32.

Thats true i saw the shell32 and i didnt want it either so i tried to uninstall but it didnt do it all the way so i still have some vista icons. its all mixed
Tihiy
VIPv3 works flawlessly for me, just return explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe from backup after installing.
Xenomorph
32bit icons are nice.

but when can we see some ClearType in Windows 2000?

if Win2k did ClearType and 32-bit icons, i bet some people would move to it from XP.
Dilusion
another thing abpout he vista icon pack 3.0 is that it really messes up the icons for the device manager and the shell crashes more often but otherwise its cool
Benedictus
Hi all. First of all, I'd like to say that I'm delighted with this hack for Windows 2000. Best thing to happen in ages thumbup.gif

Anyway, I'm not posting just to say so. I should report also what I'm experiencing with WinRAR. See:

This is WinRAR with FOOOD's Junior theme. As you can see, the alpha layer of the icons on the toolbar is rendered weirdly. All of these are 32 bit bmps. The way WinRAR shows the shell icons (see the "Confirm file replace" dialog) is even stranger.

There is a winrar.exe.32bitimgl file on WinRAR's folder and strangely enough it seems to be working (because when browsing the hard disk the alpha layered icons show just fine in the list, as you can see in the capture).

So, that's it. Issue reported smile.gif

For a change...

refreshingly original..LOL
Dave.Net
That negative-like effect happens everywhere. Not always, though. So It's kinda random.
damian666
Does anybody know if tihiy still supports this project? or is it dead?
i hope he wants to get on with it...
best thing that ever happened to 2000...

damian666

btw, is it possible to have XP style taskbar in win2000? And to talk more in general, some kind of skin support?
I saw something similar in Win98 Revolution pack so I hope it can be the same for Win2000 too biggrin.gif
