awergh
what version are you using?
because rp6/7 have an uninstaller and i think 5 does to

to restore it you need to got to dos and type restore

than i would suggest you try the newer version

Revolutions Pack Lite 6++
http://tihiy.ahanix.org/RPLite6PP.exe

or

Revolutions Pack Seven - -
http://tihiy.ahanix.org/RP7MM.exe

The revolutions Pack thread is here

It's version 3.6 (i only downloaded it yesterday)

Ever since i tried to restore the registry every folder i open is blank, i can only see files when im in safe mode wacko.gif

I can't find any uninstaller, oh sh*t am i up the creek??

What if i simply delete each rp file i find and reboot.....will that do the trick??

Please HELP!!!!!
glocK_94
Revolutions Pack 3.6 is way outdated! Where did you find it? huh.gif
If you just delete the files, you'll be unable to boot.
Do what Awergh told you: "to restore, [...] you need to go to dos and type 'restore'"

If that doesn't work and you didn't save... you're good to reinstall.
Well, if you're sure everything is lost, you *could* try to install a new version on top of it...
philly
i downloaded it from softpedia

to restore, [...] you need to go to dos and type 'restore'

but where is dos??.....please explain more unsure.gif
glocK_94
DOS = MS-DOS.
Go to "start", "shut down" and finally "restart in ms-dos"...
If you want more info about stuff like that, Wikipedia is always a nice place to check. newwink.gif
philly
yes i went into ms-dos and typed restore.....but no luck, revolutions pack is still there.

How about in command/prompt if i use scanreg/restore??

oh f8ck it..what have i done confused.gif
glocK_94
No. Rev Pack replaces lots of essential files. Restoring the registry will only make things worse.
You would need to get all the files that have changed and replace them by original ones (shell32.dll, user.exe...)
Try to unpack the Rev Pack 3.6 and list what files it installed.

In addition to what glock_94 says above, which is the first thing to do, you may indeed want to use scanreg/restore or restore an old registry from dos.

What may be bad news is that there is one version of the revpack that deletes the sysbackup folder and I am almost sure it is this one. If so all your registry backups are gone for good.

For some very odd reason tihy refused to fix that one line in the install batch file at the time.

Softpedia is not alone in having revolutions pack v3.6. even Majorgeeks.com has the revo v3.6 pack as well. in fact, many download sites have them.

philly, do you still have your Win98se CD or Win98se setup files? boot from a Win98se startup disk, load the cd-rom drivers and run win98se setup to re-install Win98se.

from now on, philly, obtain the latest revolutions pack at this page:

Thanks everyone for all yr replies.... angel.gif

No i haven't got a win98se cd, this is a second hand laptop that i have with win 98se pre installed.

glock said........"You would need to get all the files that have changed and replace them by original ones (shell32.dll, user.exe...) Try to unpack the Rev Pack 3.6 and list what files it installed"

im a novice so can someone please tell me in plain english what this involves. shell32 >>>whats that?? where can i find it??

PS... i use CCleaner that automatically backs up the registry, so can i use that program to restore a previous reg??? wacko.gif
Tihiy
Well, if you don't have Windows 98 CD, you can't go back.
RP 3.6 does not back up files by default.

You can go only further. There are 3 ways:

- 1st way: Download&install RP6 or 7. May work as expected.
- 2nd way: Download&install latest USP. During install, always select to replace newer files from older. Restore your registry from old backup.
- 3rd way: Download&install latest 98SE2ME, including option 3!

So what do i do???

If i install the latest revolutions pack, will that repair/update the old version (3.4) that i have already??

Does the latest version come with a uninstall option??

i don't want to go into a deeper hole...someone plz help unsure.gif
awergh
the latest versions rp6++ and rp7-- come with uninstall
i suggest you install rp7 or 6 as this should replace the broken files from rp3.4
philly
Well i did like some of you suggested and installed the latest revolutions pack (rp 7), and NOW.....i can't boot up my pc.

I get a message saying...error loading kernal, reinstall windows. (i haven't got a win cd)

I tried scanreg/restore in command promt, but no luck.

So is that finally it?? have i lost everything?? wacko.gif

Yes and no. Hex-edit kernel32.dll and replace 'user9x.dll' with 'user32.dll' string.
philly
can i have that step by step in PLAIN english please blink.gif ......i'm a novice don't forget
Tihiy
Okay, simpler:
download kernel32.dll from one of those locations:
http://www.upload2.net/page/download/PvBN9...102222.ZIP.html
http://z13.zupload.com/file.php?filepath=47608
replace one in \windows\system with one you downloaded.
philly
ok im able to reboot now ....so how do i uninstall revolutions safely??

can't find it in add/remove ph34r.gif
Ambassador
no you can't. If you tried to uninstall it, it would revert back to RP 3.6. in other words, you are stuck.

But the other guys said if i install rp7 it will replace/repair rp3.6, and hence uninstalling would be safe. wacko.gif
awergh
if you uninstall rp7 it will restore the rp3.6 files that were the problem
the uninstall just means you dont have anything to lose if you install rp7 over 3.6
philly
Surely they're must be someway i can get revolutions off my system?? confused.gif

If you haven't got a CD, it's going to be hard.

Get yourself a CD on eBay I would suggest.

After that you can restore all files modified by rev pack by hand.
philly
hello again...

The fact that i have revolutions 98 installed on my pc, will that cause complications
if i ever do an upgrade to windows xp?? blink.gif
eidenk
I don't think there should be a particular problem with having revpack and upgrading to XP.

Where you might have a problem is that you'll probably need a Win98 CD to put in the CD drive at some point of the XP install and I understand you haven't got one.

Don't expect marvels from XP though.

I have just finally installed in a virtual machine a full OEM XP Pro SP2 I bought almost a year ago, to do some stability, performance and security tests and I don't think I'll ever actually upgrade to that OS or newer from Microsoft on a real machine.
