i need an offline installer to make an addon. that's a live installer
ricktendo64
Nov 6 2007, 11:48 PM
Johndoe74 you can use that web installer and then later retrieve the msi from
CODE
%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\WindowsLiveInstaller\MsiSources\
BTW here is one I made with Shark007's tutorial that will automatically copy your patched files and also theres an option to reshack the icon for a more vista like one

johndoe74, here you go
http://www.verzend.be/v/440607/PatchedLive...Builder.7z.htmlbtw johndoe74, change the main title of this topic...
johndoe74
Nov 7 2007, 01:30 PM
not patched please. the stock installer. and i'll change the title when i have the final addon ready
IrfCore
Nov 7 2007, 01:34 PM
it isn't, it's the file I downloaded...
just run ricktendo64 bat to create it

johndoe74 the files in my addon builder are not patched, what it does is it gives you the option to copy the patched files from your current messenger and integrates them in the installer overwriting the non patched one in the installer sub dirs
IrfCore I think he is refering to the original MSI from WindowsLiveInstaller\MsiSources\ dir, if somebody who used the online installer can locate it and upload it to him (I deleted mine sorry)

johndoe74
Nov 12 2007, 11:49 AM

mitsukai
Nov 12 2007, 02:40 PM

Nov 12 2007, 02:56 PM
what do you mean "both in one" ?
mitsukai
Nov 12 2007, 02:57 PM
the skin and WLM in one
if u make just a msgres.dll replacer u dont have to remake that addon evry time

Hey !
It doesn't get installed in the windows, nor it is shown anywhere in the 'Program files'.although,it gets integrated via nlite.
Plz help.
Thanks !

Mar 8 2008, 02:38 PM
Hey !
yeah it does install,as I was trying to integrate sp3,so I first integrated the wmp11 addon and then integrated the sp3 over it,which must have overwritten the files, well,it has to be the other way round. First integrate sp3 and then integrate all the hotfixes and addons,it works perfect.
Thanks !
Have a nice day

just tried it. works fine. maybe you removed some components that were required for messenger to work ? try running the executable inside the svcpack folder in the cab file and see if it installs then

hey johndoe74, is there a way to add other skins to this? for example i'd like to integrate this one
http://www.msgplus.net/skins/view/9-Nightfall/ and have it set to default

How can I apply a skin to my Messenger?Messenger Plus! skins are loaded in memory without modifying the original resource files of Messenger. What this means is that Messenger Plus! takes care of all the hard work for you. Here is what you need to know about installing skins:
- First, you need to make sure you have Windows Live Messenger and Messenger Plus! Live installed (the latest public versions are always recommended).
- Then, find a skin you like in the Skins Database and press download.
- Open the file you just downloaded, make sure Enable this skin after import is enabled, and press Import. If the enable option is not available, the skin is not compatible with your version of Messenger.
- Once Messenger has been restarted, the skin is loaded and ready to be enjoyed :-).
andQUOTE
you must be signed in before you can import new skins

ha well.. thats not exactly what i was asking. i meant is there a way to incorporate it into your addon here and have it set to default so when i integrate it into my build it will already be set up
johndoe74
Jun 20 2008, 10:26 PM
i don't think i can manage that since the prerequisites of installing that particular type of skin are that messenger live should be installed prior and that you should be online and signed in!

Jun 21 2008, 02:04 PM
ah ok. well i saw that Vista Aero skin by ~Stianu89 addon you built, (which also requires msgr live i believe- or according to t he deviantart link it does)and i thought maybe it would just be a simple matter of replacing that one with the one i found.. guess not
johndoe74
Jun 21 2008, 03:04 PM
i had actually forgotten how i made that one but looking
here, i found that it only involved replacing a .DLL file (msgsres.dll) and was nowhere near as complicated as the one you want. sorry, i couldn't be of more help
ccl0
Jun 21 2008, 07:46 PM
ah ok. before they released that msgr+ thing, people had to reshack wlm to change the look of it. that gives me an idea though
johndoe74
Jun 22 2008, 12:19 AM
mind sharing ?
btw, messenger plus has been around for ages, i'd guess since the days of messenger 6 (if not earlier), it went live when messenger itself went live

Jun 22 2008, 04:10 PM
well upon further search it looks like there were two different types. one involved using the resource hacker and i think replacing the msgsres.dll, the other involved using Messenger Plus! Live and associated skins. i was under the impression that before msn mssgr 8.5 if people wanted to make a news skin they had to reshack the .dll
anyways, my thought was to see if i could extract the source images from that plus! skin i linked earlier and see if i could try the ol' school method of reshacking... however it looks like it would be a huge task to undertake. i found an old tutorial here
link and
here... and..well lol just too much work i think.
meanwhile during all this i found something called "Open Live"
link which supposedly makes skinning easier. however it still requires Messenger Plus! Live 4.60 to use
looks like a dead end for me, unless i want to try to do the resource hack thing
johndoe74
Jun 22 2008, 08:13 PM
i'd guess the msg+live method does the same thing, i.e., reshack the files but only transiently (only in memory rather than on disk) while msg+live is loaded. i had also extracted the skin you linked to but couldn't figure out how to integrate it into messenger. i bet you could reshack the files yourself using the methods given but it will require time - a lot of it

This addon isn`t working for me. Every other addon works but this one isn`t. I see that I`m not alone and I really don`t know why it isn`t working. I even tried putting it to 1st place in all addons but that didn`t change anything. I use Win XP Pro with already integrated SP3. When I extract cab and initiate installation it installs fine. What could be the problem... only thing that is different for my computer from the others is that I install my windows on D partition and I already have another XP Pro installed in C partition.
