Yes Nvidia3 is working with Windows 98 SE without problem, but soundcard on this MBO will not work (in Windows 98SE). To tell truth I think that there will be maybe problems with Uli1695 but it can work because here is download for Uli1695 and Windows 98 SE http://www.nvidia.com/page/uli_drivers.html Can you latter write if everything is working OK ? |

I've been running Win98SE off and on (I use Win2K more often) on an ECS NFORCE3-A with nForce3 250 chipset for several months with no problems. But I just got a Foxconn 6150BK8MC-KRSHN2 with GeForce6150B/nForce430 chipset and can't find any nVidia support for Win98 there, so would appreciate any pointers (the fact that the ECS 6100/nForce405 board discussed earlier supports Win98SE would seem to suggest that some support might exist). Thanks, - bill Edit: I hadn't found MDGx's description of his tweaked 82.69 driver when I posted the above, and now see that it claims to support the GeForce6150 - but it doesn't mention 6150 with nForce430, while it does mention the nForce4xx support in its 6100 list. So I'm wondering whether I'll still need Win98SE drivers for the non-graphics features of the chipset (disks, LAN, etc.): if they're not included in the 82.69 package, anyone know if they're available elsewhere? Thanks again, - bill This post has been edited by billtodd: Nov 28 2007, 10:27 AM |

You need to find nForce430 drivers because it is southbridge. I want to say that nforce430 is controling SATA-PATA hard drive and DVD, sound card and other little things. GeForce6150 is controling "only" communication with CPU. Short version is you must find drivers for nForce 430. I do not believe that this drivers for Windows 98 SE exist but .... |

Hello! Can you latter write if everything is working OK ? I will - I do not have that mb (yet) ... In the meantime, I was able to install Windows 98 SE on Gigabyte 8I945GZME-RH. It has Intel chipset 945GZ and the southbridge is ICH7 (82801GB). Because there is no driver for onboard graphics, I put in PCI GeForce 6200. OTOH, has anyone installed Win98SE on Intel 965 motherboard (with ICH8) ? Finally, there is an interesting (cheap) ABIT board with new P35 Express chipset and old ICH7 instead of ICH9 southbridge - IP35V: http://www2.abit.com.tw/page/en/motherboar...ODEL_NAME=IP35V http://www.digitimes.com/print/a20071203PD202.html QUOTE ... makers have employed several strategies including the use of the older ICH7 southbridge on their P35 motherboards which is against Intel's official specification ... IMHO this one could be compatible with W98SE ... Cheers, Roman |

What about the cheap Intel D201GLY? I think there are Win98 drivers for the northbridge, southbridge, VGA, LAN and audio (non-Intel chipsets), but I don't know whether they work for sure. More details here: http://www.logicsupply.com/products/d201gly2 http://download.intel.com/products/motherb...201GLY2/tps.pdf This post has been edited by diskless: Dec 6 2007, 01:06 PM |

This is my only reason against this MBO. I dunno about that, because that feature has existed at least since 2003! I would think that it supports it, because all processors newer than earlier 2002 should have a built-in thermal sensor. Thus, this reminds me of motherboard manufacturers appearing to be slacking 5 years ago or around 5 years ago, when with AMD, despite the Athlon XPs having a thermal sensor, the motherboards still used the old school in-socket probe. After looking site http://www.logicsupply.com/products/d201gly2 I can only tell you that this MBO support Windows 98 SE. Reasons for that thinking is possibility to download from SiS site Windows 98 SE drivers for GPU, SATA and Raid on this MBO (chipset SiS662 and SiS964). For coming to this place you must visit this address http://www.sis.com/download/agreement.php?url=/download/ In reality I do not like PCI Express chipsets (this is that chipset) but .... |

AsRock ConRoe865PE is not supporting "CPU Overheat Shutdown to Protect CPU Life" option. This is clear because in manual they have not writen anything about this "tehnology". On other side in manual about AsRock 775i65G they are writing how MBO is supporting this option. This writing about good stuff but not about bad (MBO is not supporting Overheat Shutdown) is marketing You must not forget that AsRock is cheap because they use old tehnology. |

Thanks to Rjecina and all the helpful posters on this forum. I have now a system based on Asrock 4coredual-sata2 -Intel core 2 quad processor -2 Gb of DDRII - The problem was and still is to find a suitable compatible graphic card and I have it partially solved it by using an old (used and noisy) Ati Radeon 9600 on Agp. Windows 98 seems running perfectly even if I am still at the beginning and I have not configured any vcache limit yet, only added "MaxPhysPage=40000" in system.ini under 386E nh, also got some problem in recognizing the dvd disk which is placed on the secondary Master Ide. (of course I am speaking about windows 98 - The DVD disk works in other Operating systems - for this reason it does not seem to be a problem due to a bad hardware configuration in the jumper or connections) I will give a new post when I have solved my problems or/and (hopefully) after some time to inform how the motherboard is dealing with windows 98. p.s If anyone has had and did solve a similar problem in dvd disk recognition under w98 or knows about a post in this forum about this kind of problem please let me know. |

Compatibility update for Asrock 4coredual-sata2 -Intel core 2 quad processor -2 Gb of DDRII -and windows98 I have been able to use the disk drive only with the generic dos drive on the windows 98 disk following a microsoft installation procedure. No way to read DVD for now. And I got a new problem that did show up only after I started to install programs someone on here may be able to help: It is not anymore possible to start dos under windows 98 cause I get out of memory message. - I have limited the size of [vcache] in system.ini with this : [vcache] MinFileCache=40000 MaxFileCache=40000 and the memory with this in system.ini: [386Enh] MaxPhysPage=2CFFF and I have tried various other settings for this entries with no results. |

Compatibility update for Asrock 4coredual-sata2 -Intel core 2 quad processor -2 Gb of DDRII -and windows98 I solved the problem with the disk drive. I can read DVD now. Sorry for my last post. it was not very informative. I went to panic cause my system went into compatibility mode and I did not realize what was happening. I have solved the memory problem by reducing even more the MaxFileCache entry. I warn everyone wanting to install Windows 98 on this board that it is going to be a very delicate task. Sata disks need to be put into Raid mode in the bios or else Windows 98 can enter into compatibility mode and also hide the cd disk. Only problem I seem to have now is that I am experiencing problems with an usb memory stick (8 Gb dimension): System locks completely when tryng to write. For Dual booters: I was able to install Linux Mepis on this board without any problem from the last 2007 distribution CD. (Ubuntu did not work) Will post after some time an update of how my system is behaving. Thanks to Rjecina (always very informative) about suggestions on the graphic card. |

The audio driver on the Intel D201GLY2 download webpage includes an X86 folder. The files are almost identical to those in the link you posted. Running Setup.exe from this folder installs Soundmax with no error messages. When Windows re-boots the audio device is found, but I cannot locate a driver that works. Other Soundmax drivers that I've downloaded have the same problem. Ideas anybody? |

Problem is that Intel has stoped support for Windows 98 and it is not possible to use drivers from Intel site for instalation. Simple speaking Intel site is very bad for drivers for "our" OS. I think that drivers from SiS site or from site which has produced similar chipset before are much better for download. On other side because some stupid mistake for me it is not possible to install USB 2.0 on Windows 98 (Intel 865 chipset from 2007). Installation is going OK but after restart .... If it is not possible to install this drivers about which I have writen before you will have problem which is very similar to my USB |

The ECS driver you provided a link to does not work as it is. However, if you add the following line %*WDM_AC97AUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_M188, pci\ven_1039&dev_7012&subsys_D61F8086 to [AnalogDevices] section in smwdmSIS.inf file in 9x_Me\SMAXWDM\SE folder, then audio driver installs fine. Many thanks! _______________________ I found a USB 2.0 driver that installs OK, so everything looks like it is working with Win98SE & D201GLY2, except for Motherboard resources conflict for ACPI.
