Hello, I had the same issue.... I would wait until all the icons in the taskbar on the lower right have loaded and the computer has fully started. Then plug the IPOD in. Let me know if that works.

Having tried both betas of Vista, I would advise NOT to get it so soon. There are tons of bugs and graphical errors. Wait until the final release before you install it on your hard-drive.

I use McAfee VirusScan. It comes with my America Online membership.
