  1. Thanks all, was able to use 7 zip to extract some NT 3 files for a customize NT 5 (XP). Mission Complete, Spring
  2. Wanted to extract all the i386 files form a windows cd onto a directory. Anybody know of a smiple command to do so? Many thanks, Spring
  3. Sorta not new, but never gotten the chance to make the shout out. Wanted to spread the luv for my favorite OS
  4. Blackwingcat, your amazing! I've been using windows 2k for 4 years on my Thinkpad T61 and it runs like a champ with no hiccups, super stable! I gotten a iPhone 3GS from my boy friend and trying to use it under windows 2000. Gotten SP4 with all updates and proper hotfixes. So far I've gotten iTunes 10.3.1 installed, but ran into a few issues during the installment process... I've used the itw2014 utility to allow itunes 10.3.1 to be installed. I've extracted iTunes 10.3.1 into the same directory as the it21k014 tool and ran the setupit command script. It ran and came across my first issue when installing the drivers: "SetDllDirectoryW Could not be located in the dynamic link Library KERNEL32.dll" Then it asks me if I want to retry to cancel installing the drivers, I just ignore it and then go onto installing apple updates: "Module C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update\ScriptingObjectModel.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024769 Contact your support personel" Then when it goes onto installing iTunes itself I get another error message: "Module C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147023782. Contact your support personel." I ignore it once again, but come with a error message comes up reporting that I need XP SP2 or higher. =/ Well, iTunes opens up correctly and everything works perfectly, except for syncing up my iphone. Every time I have my iphone connected and open itunes says "iTunes was unable to load data class information from Sync Serivces. Reconnect or try agian later" Hopefully you know moreblackwingcat . I really enjoy all your resources for Windows 2000 and allow further use of it with new products.
  5. Of course, better cooling for better temperatures for a trivial solution! I've tested with Advance Server 2k which took my CPU temps around 50C, but installing Server 2k3 or xp I saw much better temperatures around 35C. That's why I'm asking if Vista would have better temperatures for my CPU since I saw different readings comparing NT 5.0 and 5.1/2. That's why I'm asking if there is a difference in OS.
  6. Good afternoon all!, I'm currently using Windows Server 2k3 Enterprise RC2 (SP2) and been testing with other OS for the best cooling for my CPU. I have a Intel I7 920 CPU running at its stock speed with nothing overclocked at the moment. Anybody has any insight if they saw better CPU temperatures under Vista? Thanks My System Specs: DFI LANPARTY JR X58-T3H6 LGA 1366 Intel X58 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor With HT PNY XLR8 GeForce 9800 GT 1GB DDR3 2x Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s with Raid Zer G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit NEXGEN 3 eMachines T2825 Micro ATX Silver/Black Case Corsair 620 Watt HX Power Supply. ZALMAN CNPS9900LED 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler This is the cpu speeds with basic apps running in the background such as Firefox 3, ms paint, messenger, ect. It seems to me this is pretty good readings, but I wonder if I can do better? Thanks all in advance for your advise
  7. Good Afternoon, I'm current running Windows Advance Server 2000 with a intel I7 920 Processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM and a PNY Geforce 9800 GT Graphics card. I want to upgrade to a better video card and I see the PNY Geforce 260 and 280 are certified to work with Windows 2000, but I was wondering if there would be a way to make the 285 or 295 to work with 2k. I know for 9x users there is a nifty trick where you can modify some ini file and add the video card you want to the list and it would work, any chance of doing this under 2k? Thanks all for your help!
  8. Good afternoon MSFN, I'm going to building a new Windows XP Professional (32 bit) computer with the new intel Core i7 920. It seems that it can be possible, but what worries me is not choosing Vista and I had many problems in the past with it on my IBM Thinkpad T60p, so I went back to windows 2000 Pro. I hear that XP has greatly matured and performance is rock solid, but it's 32bit and limited to only 4GB. Here is my Current System build for Windows XP with SP3: DFI LANPARTY JR X58-T3H6 Micro ATX Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (2X) XFX PVT98GYDLH GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 (2x) Western Digital Caviar Black WD7501AALS 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-730SS 730W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready eMachines Nexgen Micro-ATX Case Is it true you can use PAE to enable more than 4GB of memory used in XP pro, just like Server 2003? It seems too good to be true, but that alone can allow me to use the 1GB ram of SLI without it eating my system memory, which wont leave me under 3GB of available memory. I honestly don't want to use Server 2k3 since XP is designed for gaming usage. Thanks all who read this and who that willing to help me out on this computer. I'm really excited since I never built a computer form scratch and one that is really powerful.
  9. T42P are sure luxury thinkpads with some having bigger 15" displays, but IBM did not officially give support for these laptop for 98se (T42 are), but that does not stop us. You can get the FireGL drivers off of IBM's/Lenovo website for 98se/Me, but keep in mind with the T42 and T42p have the TPM (Trusted Platform Manager) and finger print reader which is not supported under 98se. With the T42 I gave up on the search for drivers of the TPM, but upeck has fingerprint drivers for 98se and I have no clue how to make use of it in 98se yet other than having it appear in device manager. Here is the list of T42 drivers: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-55386.html If you don't mind having a missing puzzel peice when it comes to TPM hardware then go for the T42P with a IBM based wifi card. Intel stripped their wifi drivers for 98se and even some for windows 2000. There are a few intel wifi cards that support 98se, but you would want to do some research to see if you could find those drivers. The ATI FireGL T2 is a fairly good video card and pars almost evenly with the ATI 9600. Notebookcheck.com rates it as a class 4 video card. Problem with the FireGL T2 are not meant for high end games and geared towards graphic design. Now, if your not a huge gamer I would not worry so much. They say the ATI FireGL T2 is a 9600, but re-branded and possibly tweaked for desktop graphic design. Make things in simple terms the FireGL T2 are good video card for today's standards and support vista areo. Also, IBM has fully optimized drivers for 98se. Your not going to see a huge performance increase between your sempron 3000+, but looking at benchmarks from passmark CPU it seems you'll see a small increase if you get a T42P with a 1.8 and anything higher You'll see a good performance gain. You can upgrade to a 2.26Ghz Pentium M and that will show 2x the performance. I know you'll be getting rid of your desktop like I did with my Thinkpad. They are truly the best laptops out there and I could take on anybody in a laptop debate when it comes to Thinkpads. Word of advise on eBay laptop sales is be very very careful. I would recommend buying a S or 4 claim thinkpad since they come with a IBM warranty and they also come close to brand new condition (S claim is brand new where 4 is near new). You will be paying a good price for them (around 600-800), but that assures you to have a brand new quality with a warranty to fall back on. The choice is yours... I'll search further into the TPM 98se compatibility since it's the last thing that makes the T42 series fully compatible with 98se. IBM fully certified these laptops for 98se back when they were selling them and I know they had the TPM driver available, sadly Lenovo is hiding them. I'll keep you posted if I have any luck. Hope I was able to help you out on this!
  10. I may get a few boos, but the BEST printer you could buy for Windows 9x would be the Brother MFC-845CW printer. They still fully support Windows 98se and Me and their printers are very nicely designed with the small foot print design in mind. The MFC-845W also has a memory card read and build in wireless capabilities which is friendly for those 9x laptops in the house. Just wanted to put my two cents in and if anybody is looking for a premium 9x printer the Brothers would be your best choice.
  11. That would be the IBM Thinkpad T42 series which is the last notebooks to fully support windows 98se. Excellent choice since they featured Pentium M processor running up to 2.1Ghz and dedicated ATI 9600 or FireGL T2 Graphics. Memory can be expanded up to a massive 2GB worth of ram. Even the IBM mini wifi G card with bluetooth II fully works in 98se. I would personally get a IBM Thinkpad T41P since most models did not come with a finger print reader that does not fully work in 9x and the TPM (Trusted Platform Manager) drivers are non existence for the 98se/Me environment. They still featured the FireGL T2 graphics with 128MB of ram, beautifully XVGA+ 1400x1050 display, wifi and bluetooth, rolling cage design, usb 2.0 support, and daul pcima card slot.. All built in a sleek travel friendly design that truely shows off your vintage computing side. Dare to multiboot Vitsta and 98se If you on a budget then you could find good deals on the T30 (Sweat shop P4 M ) or early T40 models which also had fully supported functions for 98se, but I would try and go for a T41 since the graphics are way better and more memory can be added. Surprisingly also! eMachines created sweet multimedia laptops that were fully windows 98se compatible. My sister has my old M5405 that I've blasted Windows XP away and installed Windows Me. It's been 4 years since I got it and no problems yet! That came with a fast Sempron 2800+ processor with SIS graphics and Broadcom wireless that worked with Millennium, but not 98se for some strange reason. Nooowww.. If you looking for a Windows 95 ready Laptop that would be the IBM T23. Some models came with a built in wifi card that fully works under Windows 95 OSR 2.x! Excellent robust intel 825 chipset with a blazing fast Pentium III M 1.3Ghz . Hope this helps! This post caught my attention since I was in the same boat. Typing thist post on my T42 and runs great under 98se. PS. Stay away from Toshiba. Even today their vista laptops are designed to not support XP which consumers are p***ED. IBM the way to go!
  12. I'm thinking of making the purchase of a HIS Hightech H385Q512ANP Radeon HD 3850 for my aging eMachines etower. I would love to keep winodws 98se, but I don't think there is any possibility of getting the drivers to fully work under windows 98. Nice thing about this certain video card is the Direct X 10 capabilities. Anybody know if there is a way to get this ATI video card to work under Windows 98se? Thanks in advance
  13. Anybody know how I could force the installer to be used on Windows 2000? Reason for installing the Windows Live Gaming application so I can go head and install Halo 2 on my laptop with Windows 2000. Currently I have the Direct X 10 patch working on Windows 2000 so I'm almost there, just need to get the Live Windows gaming app to be installed on Windows 2000. Thanks!
  14. I don't think so since I've tried it on a test system during the Vista Beta. You can't run the Vista install utility under 9x to do a multi boot system. So, what you'll have to end up doing is installing Vista on a separate partition (Clean install) and modify the boot.ini yourself. Hope this helps!
  15. Oh! *Hugs Xeno86* Thank you so much, just what I always wanted! It seems like I have the Atheros miniPCI wifi adapter and the second hardware device has to do with ACPI "ACPI\*ATM1100, *ATM1100". Also Xeno86, would you recomend the best way to patch windows 98 after a clean install? I've done these steps: 1. Install windows 98se with cabs already on the hard drive 2. Windows updates 3. Unoffical Windows 98Se SP 3.0 if you know of any tweaks that would be great ^_^
