  1. Is it the latest version? If not then update and install the latest. Also, try safe mode - in the target box in your shirtcut you use to run Firefox, add -safe-mode to the end. Should look like this: "C:\Progra...firefox.exe" -safe-mode Safe mode basically disables everything like extensions and themes. If it works in safe mode then later on disable all your extensions and one by one enable them to see which one is causing the crashing. Hope that helps.
  2. Try holding SHIFT when you press NO, most of the time that acts as a NO TO ALL substitute.
  3. http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t34603.html For all your boot.ini editing needs. Use commands.txt to run boot.cmd whcih will look like this: @ECHO OFF bootcfg /raw "/noexecute=AlwaysOff /fastdetect /noguiboot" /id 1 Chop and change the /commands as you wish. Credit to Kishiro
  4. Cheers, it looks like what I want. I'll give it a go.
  5. Not for me. It put them all back to no association and when I opened a video file, it asked me which program I would like to use to open it. To rectify this problem I made a .reg file that restores the defaults to Winamp for all my audio files and Media Player Classic for all my video files. Just export the extensions from HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and it works perfectly. Now that .reg file just executes after installation.
  6. Cheers. I put it at the start of my registry file that adds my reg info and it works perfectly. Much respect.
  7. I use a CD, so if a mate gets in strife he can use my CD. He may or may not have a DVD Player, so I use the most common option. Due to the fact I use a 700mb CD I have to compress my files so they fit on. Not just that, but if I want to reinstall a program for some reason, all I need do is run the sfx and the program is installed, no need for user interaction. If I was making my unattended CD just for reinstalling windows, I'd be silly because I've already spent more time on this CD than i ever would manually installing windows in my time.
  8. Great guide and well-documented files to accompany it. - 10/10
  9. Cheers keytotime. Reading that 7-Zip couldn't call .msi's I wasn't game to try anything other than .exe's. I'll try now. EDIT: You're a champ, keytotime. It worked like a charm. Cheers. Reply to FoLmEr: Instead of getting the 7-Zip to call StartX.exe with additional paramters, try creating a .cmd file which then calls the msi. Before compiling the 7-Zip sfx, try running the cmd file by itself to test if it works.
  10. I also am having problems with 7-zip switchless installers. I compress all the files I want, add 7zs.sfx and config.txt and make the .exe, all edited and works perfectly when tested - except if run during RunOnceEx. If I test with VMware 4.5.2, NeroBR, NVE3, Office2003 and SymantecAV9 do not install at all when run via RunOnceEx. If I run the .exe's after install then they install fine (both in VMware and not). The 7-zip exe calls "Install.exe" which is just a converted .cmd file, basically following this format: @ECHO OFF cmdow @ /HID ECHO. TITLE Installing Symantec Antivirus SymantecAntivirus.msi /qn reboot=reallysuppress liveupdate=0 servergroupname=Username servergrouppass=Userpass REGEDIT /S Fix.reg RD /S /Q "%AllUsersProfile%\Start Menu\Programs\Symantec Client Security" EXIT SymantecAV and Office2003 are .msi's and both Nero's are .exe's and they both work fine otherwise. Is there something 'pre-first boot' that won't work such as "cmdow @ /HID"? Cheers for your help. Sevendust. -EDIT- Telling 7-Zip to load Install.cmd rather than converted Install.exe worked a treat. Astalavista, you seem to use the Quick Batch file Compiler a lot. Know the reason?
  11. I'm finishing off my UA-XPCD and I want to know how to use a batch file command to create a shortcut to a file. I know it's possible to create an empty file and add html, cmd and bat files to the "New" Right-Click Menu, so I was wondering if this was possible too. As it stands I have shortcuts that copy over, but are linked to C:\ and it'd p*** me off to change all the shortcuts should I decide to install to D:\ later on. Cheers, Sevendust.
  12. Since reading a very helpful guide, I have changed my paging file to 1024MB. The guide recommends everyone have at least 2GB of memory - total (virual + physical). Since I have 1GB of RAM, my page file is 1GB. If you have 512MB of RAM, a 1.5GB page file is recommended. Of course you don't have to listen to me, but with 2GB of total memory I have had fewer slowdowns and programs like Adobe Photoshop encounter fewer problems related to memory usage. To increase performance otherwise, do as said above and use the classic theme as opposed to the luna theme (I actually prefer the classic nowadays) and disable the 'Themes' service. Also go [system Properties -> Advanced -> Visual Effects] and turn as much as you want off, the more you disable the higher your performance. Personally I leave 'smooth edges of screen fonts' and 'use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop' enabled, because there are some things you should have to sacrifice. I also advise you run AdAware, Spybot SD, Crap Cleaner and OODefrag. Alternatively run programs that you prefer that clean your system of spyware, registry errors and temporary files you no longer use and of course a defrag is essential at least once a fortnight to keep your computer in tip-top shape. If you keep your computer clean and organised enough you will notice when something goes wrong with it much more easily and will be able to see what is out of place / out of order. Last but not least, don't run useless programs. The fewer programs you have running at one time, the less memory you are using unnecessarily and the less chance something will go wrong with your system to crash it or slow it down. Good luck with your optimisations.
  13. S0mE0nesMiNd1, what you could do is compress the game files that are installed and search in HKCU and HKLM for Blizzard/WoW entries and extract those. If all goes to plan you should be able to extract the files to the destination of your choice and then import the registry entries and you should have a working game. If you wanted it to be perfect, you could hunt down how to make it so you could have the WoW entry in add/remove programs for later uninstallation, but otherwise this should work. Just to let you know, my first choice would have been to try InstallRite too, I didn't know it had a size limit, that's a bit crap.
  14. Tak knows where it's at. MPC is very nice. I've been using it for ages because it is just so easy to use compared to the other media viewing programs, WMP, WinDVD, PowerDVD, Showtime, etc this kicksass. The latest feature I've discovered and liked is the ability to modify the aspect ratio of the file currently viewed by using the numpad keys. Explore at ur own volition.
  15. I have been searching around for ages for this solution to the Alcohol install problem. Does anyone know how to delete this reg entry unattended?
