  1. Hi, I suggest you switch to Comodo or ZoneAlarm for your firewall. And also use WinPatrol. While Comodo will bug you very frequently about alerts without defining them, Zonealarm will tell you what exactly is happening. I switched from COMODO (ranked highest) to ZoneAlarm (Second most powerful). Now I know when my ISP tries to use my computer as a router AND I BLOCKED THAT. I won't recommend Comodo unless you have good knowledge of different ports on computer.. 2303, 25, 198, and so on. (NOT LPT, COM, and USB). ZoneAlarm may tell you what the traffic is. Even I was puzzled as why somebody would try to continuously access my computer. But when I am using ZoneAlarm, I came to know that these IPs were of the Reliance Communications, whose wireless I use. It showed that a packet originating from of the ISP's address, meant for another computer, was being routed through mine. Comodo and other firewalls seldom give you all these details. Coming to Winpatrol, it is a software that tracks each and every changes on your computer. For instance, if any program tries to change your home page or settings related to Automatic Updates, it alerts you before allowing the change. I have been using it since an year and have recommended it to many. It will also help you find out if there is any malware on your system. On the final note, I wud say that it is not a good idea to have Windows Firewall "ON" when you are using a third party firewall. It may create conflicts that may cause programs from responding and may lead to unexpected behavior on other applications. For further information, please check out this article on enhancing Windows system performance. These days, Windows Updates are also creating computer problems as I found them to install trackback applets (equivalent to Trojans). Check this out this article. Please let me know if you find the information useful. -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Monday, November 30, 2009, 1:27:02 PM IST
  2. If you are asking about Internet Download Manager, it is a trail with full functionality. And as I said, it does not require you to sign up or pay for downloads. I am considering buying it once the trial period is over. -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 9:29:27 PM IST
  3. Hi, Dunno y I did not receive an email reg ur ans. Still, thanks for the simple solution. Though I figured it out, your post will help me while dealing with others' machines. -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 9:26:15 PM IST
  4. Wonder my answer go... I guess you are using a USB Hub. Sometimes, things do not just work out with the USB extensions or Hub. If you have a free USB port, I recommend you plug in the mouse directly into the port. Else, go for a compatible, HI SPEED Hub. You may also try out the troubleshooting steps in my article at Bright Hub If you still have problems, please let me know so that we can fix the issue. -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 9:21:13 PM IST
  5. Hi, Normally online movie sites offer them in MP4 formats so you can use iTunes downloader. Better still, (based on my experience), I recommend BitTorrent for downloading full movies. They are faster and come with resume capability. One such download accelerator with BitTorrent support is Internet Download Manager. It is a 30 day trail though... You can get download it through CNET The only problem is that it starts downloading even if you wish to watch/listen anything online - whether or not you are authorized to download from any site. You may call it a PLUS or a MINUS point. ALL THE BEST! -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 9:10:50 PM IST
  6. Hi All, Please take a look at this screenshot that depicts five USB controllers out of which, one is marked "Enhanced". My laptop has 2 USB ports. Now I am in doubt if both are of same type. The problem: I want to make good use of my wireless BB stick. But as you can see in the screenshot, it is attached to a different hub. I tried pluggin in the USB stick into the other port. Still, it did not appear under the "Enhanced" Controller. Now, I wish to know: 1) if that makes any difference? 2) are both USB ports of same type? 3) and finally, is it possible to get the device under the "Enhanced" USB Controller - so as to improve on speed? Also, I can't understand why it shows five hubs when there are only two USB ports. (I realized this only today... its five on almost every machine irrespective of number of port numbers!) -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Monday, November 16, 2009, 2:26:49 AM IST
  7. Hi, I use Adobe Premiere for such things. It has almost everything and you can get the output in desired format, including avi and wmv. But for making the picture move on sound, you'll have to spend some time. Here is an example if you are interested: http://cid-1b339d451cdb4134.skydrive.live....c/MyVideos?uc=1 You can download Premiere from Adobe site as free trial. If you like it, you may buy it. Cheers! -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Thursday, November 12, 2009, 11:26:36 AM IST
  8. Bad Boot Sector. Try recovery console and CHKDSK + FIXMBR commands. It may fix the problem but not for sure. If fixed, you are lucky - else nothing but to go for a full re-install. -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Thursday, November 12, 2009, 1:08:57 AM IST
  9. Other than the above, you may use the Windows Cut/Paste. What is the problem? You can always click "NO" when it prompts for overwriting. Is the structure "A" too big? -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Wednesday, November 11, 2009, 3:03:23 PM IST
  10. Hi, I was using Comodo Firewall on Windows XP. It does not seem to be working properly with Win 7. MSE, though includes Defender and MSRT, does not have a Firewall. Can anyone suggest a good Firewall for Windows 7? -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Tuesday, November 10, 2009, 8:36:04 PM IST
  11. I would rather recommend a third party software for optimal defragmentation. For Windows XP, SmartDefrag from IOBIT.com is recommended. You install it, set it to auto, and forget about defragmentation. Even during a manual scan, it does not slow down the machine - a problem with XP's default defragmentation program. For pagefile defragmentation, you can use PageDefrag. Ever since I installed these two on my machine, I never had any problems with HDD speed. Check them out - you'll be a happy user. -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Saturday, October 31, 2009, 12:14:29 AM IST
  12. Hi, I am sorry I could not understand the issue properly. Is it that when you click on that particular file, your computer hangs? If so, try deleting the file. If it says "can't delete", it is the problem. Download "Unlocker" from CNET or any other portal you trust. Check it for malware before installing it. Once installed, right click on the file creating problem, select Unlocker, and in the options, select "Delete", select "Kill Processes" and click OK. This would delete the file. I also recommend an online AV scan from MS (http://www.microsoft.com/protect/products/computer/safetyscanner.mspx). Let me know if it worked. -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Wednesday, October 28, 2009, 2:26:22 PM IST
  13. Check this out: http://www.brighthub.com/computing/windows.../39025.aspx?p=2 Though I said that Windows will reinstall the drivers, I did some more research. Results: Re-install from Chipeset CD. If it is an Intel Chipset, I recommend downloading Intel Chipset Info bundle from the Intel site. This package identifies and directs Windows to install correct drivers for all its resources. I can't recall the link to the Intel Chipset Info bundle, but you can get it by typing in the same thing at Intel.com. If the ports do not work even after reinstallation from the Chipset CD, they are dead. You'll have to replace them. -- Best Regards, DreamsCentral Twitter: @DreamsCentral Signed: Tuesday, October 27, 2009, 4:28:22 PM IST
