Fixed it. i had control panel regional and language Options advanced (tab) language for non-Unicode programs = set to japanese changed it back to english (australia) restarted the computer and im right now i have the menu options in english i fell silly because its the only area i didnt look at.

when using the windows language bar changed to japanese it doesnt display english in menus im also getting a japanese character in paths instead of \ dont seem to know whats going on help please.

xp has always been my favorite operating system but now i have a vista laptop and im encountering alot of annoying probs with my xp files. i brang over a usernpass program i made from multimedia fusion having to run it as admin even though my account is admin!? (whats the differance?) because when running the shorcut normally my dat files when it was supposed to change when i made a password entry didnt and couldnt tell if a change was made successfully because of vistas transparancy to file changes (very annoying) untill yes i "run as admin" then changes can be done to the dat files i lost three sets of passwords to vistas non changeing dat files from my program (annoying that i have to track them down again.) i dont put my full faith into vista because of this. and also when i save a file with wordpad i cant too "access is denied" i have to look up on the web to see why because explanations is not too parent. everything about vista is too troublesome with uac especially that any program to run properly has to be run as a admin. and to that note is there a easier way to "run as admin context menu" for all files and a make "start menu run as admin command"? bubbad

seems to be hard drive, formating hard drive stays at 15 percent and wont move at all in and out of the laptop (laptop ide to usb adapter for the desktop). i got a hard drive from a hp laptop the otherday sadly its sata harddrive darn but there is no sata to laptop ide adapters (?) small enough to fit in laptop hard drive area. ill have to wait for a ide harddrive to come along before i can continue. but hey thats for the run down guys. B)

fist i have to say a laptop was giving to me to put a firewall and security software on it its a toshiba tecra m3, windows xp pro sp2 ,512mb ram ,60gb hard drive. cdrom ect. lets see it has proven very disasterous for me i just dont know what happened at all (fixed 1 problem then another ect. now stuffed) firstly i noticed the system restore was off on the laptop when i got it so turned it back on i also started putting on firefox, yahoo messenger then firewall zonealarm free, avg now then after that some bsods starting happening used avgremover to remove avg its settings and files (clean) so i stopped anymore installing and went and did some scandisking fix errors heaps log errors arose like this one below -- windows popup -- delayed write failed windows was unable to save all the data for the file c:\windows\internet logs\tvdebug.log the data has been lost. this error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network i started taking notes too late ect. ---- i tried to update windows first update install failed then bsod again more bsods arose after reboot like ----- unmountable_boot_volume stop 0x000000ED (0x82f83900,0xc000009c,0x00000000,0x00000000 ------ read into it and "chkdsk /r" ok it looks fixed loaded windows very slowly afterwards saw nearly took all hard drive space was nearly taken up scandisk it again (hard disk space fixed) ok windows loads though i was in clear then laptop froze up while looking for windows updates on web so then again got a bsod --- ntfs.sys - address f85016d4 base at f84f0000, datestamp 45cc56a7 --- so i got feed up and tryed the windows xp cd to repair windows the procedure was going allright then i got this ----- c:\windows\system32\netman.dll loadlibary returned error 999 (3e7) c:\windows\system32\netshell.dll loadlibary returned error 999 (3e7) fatal error: setup was unable to initialize network installation components. the specific error code is 2. ----- while it was in the setup and stopped now i couldnt get windows to boot at all and eventually i got this bsod though all means booting to safemode, normal, and windows setup disc irql_not_less_or_equal thats it i dont know what to do now i understand that this is rush but i thought i could have fixed the laptop's windows and didnt take too much notes but i hope someone can see a pattern here to dignose whats up please help.

i see your point. sorry but i even confuse myself. lets try that again id like to create a shortcut that would access the 2nd last accessed directory (automatically know) c:\this\ c:\is\ "2nd last accessed directory" c:\example\ "present directory" is there a way?

id like to make a shortcut in my "send to" directory to create a "last accessed directory" shortcut sounds simple not really ive had alook at many windows path syntax's and dont see a "last accessed directory anywhere" that i could use here even %cd% dont work so is there a way? note: i thought i maybe able to run a registry setting with the last accessed directory in there but im not sure if i can run from it from a commandline. (but i cant get past google poping up referances for Run, RunOnce, RunServices, RunServicesOnce and Startup)

has'nt made any differance at all ive tried up to -3000 for all reg entrys listed can i use a keyboard command to scroll a page up or down while dragging?

how can i get the scroll to move faster while dragging a file up and down a folder window it moves 1 line at a time, how can i speed this up. it takes about half a second per line at moment. i want to be able to scroll faster while dragging seems keyboard keys dont do anything to help. ive been trying to find anything on this but have failed so far.
