  1. Some older golf demo i got off of cnet. i looked and the game does not have log files.
  2. I just looked under all event types, and I can see a record of the unexpected shut-down - however, referencing the event viewer for the time when the freeze-up occurred, no errors, critical, or any type of events are registered.
  3. I was watching a movie and playing a video game (both half-screen), and the game froze up and I couldn't get task manager to start. I waited a bit to see if things would resolve, and after they did not I restarted (manually) only to get insert proper boot media type message. I restarted again and was unable to get into safe-mode (same insert proper boot media type message). Entering the BIOS the main boot device had been changed to my storage drive (not-bootable). I was able to change back to my OS drive and boot into Windows, but I'm kind of concerned. Is there any way I can look into what might have happened? As far as virsuses, I use AV and browse sandboxed, perform boot-time scans, and am generally pretty cautious.
  4. Seems likely as I used to use CCleaner on the registry. Thank you - worked perfectly. I wonder what caused this issue.

  6. A right-click->properties through explorer yields two tabs only: general, and sharing. I checked entries in regedit and gpedit and settings restricting the folder from being moved are not selected. Also, when I displayed the My Doc folder on the desktop, a right-click-->properties yielded "The properties for this item are not availabe"
  7. I tried changing the dword value for the entry dencorso posted from 60 to 78 with no effect after restarting.
  8. If I change the font size in Display Prop->Appearance, windows resets back to a default theme. Is there any way I can keep all my custom theme settings while upping the font size in "Appearance"?
  9. your suggestion my head I do appreciate the advice, but I know nothing about scripting, I was really just looking for a pre-made program - but thanks. I guess I'll stick with 2 separate programs to get the jobs done.
  10. Thanks bphlpt, I hadn't considered a cloud solution. I'm not looking for that now though.
  11. Thanks for the reply. 1) backing up to internal storage drive. with instances, I mean the last 3 (for example) full versions of a backup are kept. 2) real-time is not necessary, but I will look into a raid1
  12. I've yet to find a freeware program with all of these features (plus scheduling). 1) For some folders/files I'd like to have a limited number of multiple instance backups 2) I'd like my internal storage drive mirrored to my external drive Can someone please advise? I can accomplish this with separate programs, but I'm wondering if there is an all-in-one solution out there.
  13. The CPU usage in Taskmgr as described in my first post. To clarify post #5, I am not sure how to determine which process is causing the high cpu usage.
  14. Thanks, I had looked there, but wasn't sure what figure to check. I assumed it would be in the processes tab under CPU (as a percent maybe), but idle processes show 99 so my assumption is obviously incorrect. Can someone please advise? Thanks

  16. Please let me know how I can check.
  17. I'm getting ~20% CPU usage and core temps ~50C with 2 browser windows open (one streaming video and the other not doing much, only a few tabs). Here are my basic specs: Win7 pro x64 i5-2500K stock clocks M4 ssd gtx 560 gpu asrock z77e-itx board 8gb ram The system typically idles around 40C, I'm not sure what's going on here. No other apps running aside from firefox atm. Thanks
  18. The storage drive on which I had installed Batman AC recently failed. The data from the storage drive was backed up, and I still have the saved game data on my OS drive. Now I'd like to move the install completely onto my OS drive and I'm not sure the best way to go about it. Should I uninstall in Add/Remove and do a fresh install, then somehow implant my saved game file? Thanks very much! os is 7 x64
  19. Thanks bphlpt. I figured I was alright, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a part of Kel's instructions.
  20. Ponch, I was merely asking Kelsenellenelvian to clarify his instructions to reinstall, then uninstall.
  21. Thanks again. I was going to do the same but I got a warning message about reinstalling before uninstalling. Your advice worked perfectly. Now that everything's working, and I'm only seeing one entry in add/remove, is there something I should be uninstalling?
  22. Sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to.
  23. Recently the scroll function of my touchpad (Synaptics V7.2) stopped working. I went over to the control panel to check the scroll settings and when I clicked on "mouse" I got the message: Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver...Do you want to uninstall the Synaptics driver now? If I choose yes, I receive the message: "You must have Administrator privileges to uninstall device drivers. Please log off and log back on as Admin." This is despite my user account having admin privileges. So I entered into safe mode and logged in as the administrator, but when I went to remove the driver in add/remove, I received the same message - that I needed administrator privileges. I'm stumped here. Can anybody help me out? Thanks
  24. thank you. kind of weird if you ask me.
  25. I recently installed .net 3.5, and during installation I was notified that certain files would be placed on my storage partition (D:). There are now two folders in D:, as pictured. It appears these are setup files, but I'm not certain. Can someone please let me know if they are, and if they can be safely deleted? Thanks
