  1. Hello,

I am having trouble with a Windows Vista installation... it takes a very long while to boot. I have run a complete chkdsk, defragmented the HDD, and scanned for malware but the problem persists.

  2. I'm also interested. Have an old copy here that I never could get to work in XP, which the box says it supports. (Maybe that's why I found it in the bargain bin...)

I've actually made it work on Vista by installing it in Windows 98 compatibility mode...

Leaflame, I am not sure which version you are using, but there should be a couple of options for sound/video in the file menu. I will have to get back to you.

EDIT: Reinstalled it today on Vista, and it works without compatibility mode!

Will send screenshots of options later, hopefully they will be of assistance.

  3. Hello,

I am looking for a compatible disk diagnostic tool(s) for Windows 98SE ( ). I am aware of ScanDisk and I have already run a full scan in DOS; no errors were found. But for some reason, I hear this "click" every few minutes, and I just want to be sure.

You hear a click every few minutes? Backup and replace the disk ASAP.

I'm not even sure if it's the disk making the noise...

If there is a problem, wouldn't ScanDisk have 'found' anything?

  4. I think I liked the Vista wallpaper the best.

    Why's that? Please share!

I think we had this discussion with Win7 ,too. I would say birthday = compile date of RTM and this is 18th october 2006:

    vista_6000.16384.061018-1900_x86fre_client-LRMCFRE_EN_DVD.iso

But Happy Birthday Vista :thumbup I would be a Mac or Linux user for years without you Vista :)

    Andre, I'm sorry.

I never saw the compile date of RTM.

Well now after seeing Windows 8, I appreciate just how much better Vista is compared to 8. :P

    No Metro!

  5. But yeah not only that I just prefer Vista overall, it's just little things to be honest.

    Like...

    Customizable Control Panel,

    Classic Start menu (if desired),

    Overlay icons for shared items,

The ability to turn off Auto-Arrange and Align to Grid in Windows Explorer,

    No "Never combine" taskbar stupidity,

    Real Parental Controls,

Much better Windows Defender (with Software Explorer),

    Windows Media Player toolbar,

Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Mail,

    ???

And it is simply gorgeous.

  6. Here is a new tool:

    IObit StartMenu 8

    1.jpg

Wow, even IObit made a Start Menu program?

Classic Shell's All Programs menu does not open in-place/inline like the 7 Start Menu, which is what Andre doesn't like, because it covers more of the screen. But we consider that an advantage, honest :) so it will never change.

Nothing wrong with having the option. That way every user gets what they want.. :w00t:

  7. Windows 7 is nothing more than XP on eye-candy (Aero Glass UI) with a few super lame new features. Yeah, as if I'm paying a penny for that when my custom XP looks just as good.

Windows 7 is not just XP with eye-candy (I *hate* it when people say that...they said the same thing about Vista  )

It's built on the secure foundation of Windows Vista!

And Aero isn't just "eye-candy".

Though I'll admit that it is pleasing to look at!

  8. I just read on the web that Microsoft have just brought out a Windows Live Essentials 2012. And it is on the Microsoft website now.

And from what I saw from the screenshots it is even worse than WLE 2011 version. And they say it is only for Windows 7 and Windows 8.

But if you hate WLE 2011 version, you will hate WLE 2012 more. From the screenshots,WLE 2012 looks more confusing than WLE 2011. And there is more Ribbon in WLE 2012 WL Photo Gallery and WL Mail.

And Microsoft have just brought out WLE 2012 now. At a time when everyone is angry about the forced update from WLE 2009 version to WLE 2011 version.

And now Microsoft have brought out an even worse version than WLE 2011,WLE 2012.

But as for me I am not going to install WLE 2011. So I am certainly not going to install WLE 2012. NO WAY. I am staying with WLE 2009 version.Andrea Borman.

I've been using WLM 2011 and 2012 extensively for the past three days...There doesn't seem to be a difference between the two.

I wish that 2012 supported Windows Vista though. Ridiculous.

  9. Well, in any case, that's a Russian site, so Tihiy is better equipped than most of us to complain there. But, in any case, with threads about it here, and over in Neowin and MDL, all linking Tihiy to this product in particular, that "mustdie" must be out of his mind if he thinks he can get away with pretending to be the developer!

Later edit: I don't think "mustdie" is trying to claim authorship, really.

I just noticed that just above the download link, there is a lone word: "Источник" that, according to Bing Translator means "Source", and if one hovers the mouse pointer above it, it's a link to the MDL thread. So I think he's just trying to spread the word. Of course Tihiy can complain about unauthorized redistribution... but I do not think he will. dubbio.gif

I just figured that he should know.
