  1. Is there a guide somewhere on how to actually edit the file? I want to create a new logon screen but I can only find guides on how to replace logonui.exe and nothing on how to actually edit the file. I know about logonstudio and that doesn't do what I want. Thanks.
  2. Floppy disk controller drivers? Wouldn't they be part of flpydisk.inf/sys? Well, what do you know. I would have never guessed.. you install fdc.inf and fdc.sys and it works! Thanks for all your help.
  3. I don't have either of these keys: HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\safeboot\minimal\{4d36e980-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Floppy disk drive, HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\safeboot\minimal\{4d36e969-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Standard floppy disk controller HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\safeboot\network\{4d36e980-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Floppy disk drive HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\safeboot\network\{4d36e969-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Standard floppy disk controller I suppose if I had finished that registry book I have I would know how to insert these manually. lol Though looking at them it just seems they only apply to safe mode. I'm still thinking it's just not registering with the kernel. Although I don't know why that process wouldn't be in the inf file. Isn't that what the registry if for? I know it works because I can boot an msdos boot disk I had lying around. Too bad I'm too cheap to buy a usb floppy and flash my bios with my laptop... lol That is pretty cool tool though. I never really use my sound cards full potential as you have to have a very good amp. I wanted it because it had a special headphone booster but only one output port? So, I could either connect my headphones or my amp... and the 192KHz I can only experience if I have a source that can utilize it and my headphones are connected directly to it. Though maybe one of these days I'll get a descent(decent?) amp. It's still a great audio card. I think they stopped making them because it was 200$ and it didn't have f@t4l1ty written on the box
  4. Looking through the inf file all I can really decipher is it adding some registry entries, then setting some variables. It does have a "floppy_install.NT.Services" section and a "floppy_serviceinstallsection" section, but I'm not sure exactly what it's doing there. I'll read up on inf files tomorrow and see if I can tell where it's messing up, if I can... otherwise I'll just have to reinstall. oh well... I'm on plain old 32bit XP. Though after playing around with 64bit linux vs 32 bit, I wouldn't think there would be any difference other than the binaries being compiled for 64bit.
  5. Thanks for the reply, but I tried that driver and it still gave me that yellow exclamation mark. I can't seem to find any ini file on my disk that relates to floppies. I'm thinking it has to register the floppy drivers with a dll or something in order to work properly and this only occurs when you don't remove it with nlite?
  6. I don't know why, but I misguidedly removed floppy disk support in nlites config and now I need to use a floppy. I knew I needed it when I made my nlited disc, so it's stupid on my part but what's done is done. I tried copying the FLPYDISK.IN_ and FLPYDISK.SY_ over to my computer from my original disc, then expand -r them and installed them via the devmgmt.msc right clicked on "unknown device" > install drivers and went through the wizard. This resulted in a floppy drive with a yellow exclamation on it and a code 31. I even tried in safe mode, obviously that didn't work either. Is there a way to install the floppy drivers without reinstalling windows?
  7. OK, I think I figured it out. Removing my OEM folder fixed the issue. I didn't think my hacks would screw it up. I suppose I have to now edit the resources(ex. ntoskrnl.exe, winlogon.exe, etc) with the ones that were processed by nlite.
  8. Well, I don't get it. I tried without altering anything, still windows could not start because ntfs.sys is corrupt blah blah. I even tried using version 1.01 and still the same thing. It's always worked before, well, my last install I could never get safe mode to work because of this same error, but everything else worked fine. I even tried installing XP into a virtual machine and installing nlite, thinking maybe it was because I'm running vista, but the same error. Is there some kind of debugging extension or something that could maybe give me a little more feedback? Is there another program that does the same thing as nlite?
  9. Do the opposite of this: http://www.petri.co.il/remove_manage_my_co...w2k_xp_2003.htm Here's more: http://www.sanx.org/tipShow.asp?index=217
  10. I get this message every time I try to install my nlited windows: "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: blah/blah ntfs.sys blah blah blah" This happens whether I've burned the ISO or created an ISO file and used virtual box. I've tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822800 Copying the ntfs.sys file has no effect. I also tried creating the ISO with cd burner XP pro with the same result. What I find interesting is that when I de-select all the components I had set to remove it still gives me the same error. Am I missing a driver? I would think that in using virtualbox I wouldn't need a sata driver?
  11. Cause I don't like it I know... I'm a pain in the arse Is there a way to bypass the user account creation menu? Cause last time I did it(v0.97r1 I think), there wasn't those options and I used the default "owner" account...and everything worked fine... dunno if that'll fix it but that's the best I can think of. What if I made the account "owner", would that just make my default user account "owner"? As opposed to creating a separate account whose name coincidentally is named owner... Maybe I'll doing it.. not having it unattended... but with the serial number... cause I hate inputing that stupid thing... Thanks for responding btw
  12. I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the way nLite configures the user accounts. I remember the last time I did this I was just "owner" and everything worked fine. That time I had to input my password in the welcome screen, but this time I don't need to for some reason even though I have it configured to require a password. And I don't know how to force it to have you input your password at the welcome screen. The only person I've seen fix this problem is by doing a system restore but since this is a problem with the install itself I don't have that luxury. So it has got to be a fixable setting, but where?
  13. I'm bumping this again, because I've reinstalled about 20 times and I haven't been able to do those things with any of the installs. I don't know if this is some weird bug or there is something in one of the things i removed which prevents users from doing those things. Another thing is I can't use my printer, I get an access denied unable to connect message. This *could* be because it's a networked printer but I really doubt the problem is on the server side. Not being able to use msconfig I could live without, but I need my printer and I need to run vbscripts. Somebody must have some sort of guess? I've uploaded my session file if it's any help. OH, and I've since updated to 1.3R2. LAST_SESSION__205301.20_21.18.31_.INI
  14. ok thanks There were no pictures in there so it's no wonder I was coming up with nothing in my search. Hmm... I guess I have to edit logonui.exe to change the picture then?
  15. Where is the user logon icon located? I've searched the forum and my computer but I cannot seem to find out where it is. I'm talking about the icon or picture that is located on the top of the start menu and in the user selection section of the logon screen.
  16. A few things I can't do: Run vbscripts. I get a could not locate automation class named "wscript.shell" error. Open msconfig. I get an access denied error. Edit registry permissions. I can't even do it in safe mode logged in as admin. Lower RAM usage in cacheman on system processes, but I can lower them on user processes. I'm sure there's some other things I can't do, I just haven't noticed. I really don't want to have to reinstall again. I've tried djlizards repair permissions but that didn't work. I'm 99% certain this has something to do with some setting I entered into nLite 1.2.1 but I am not exactly sure which one it was. If I have to reinstall I will, but if anyone has a better idea let me know. I downloaded secedit and will tool around with that, but I am not confident I know the proper form to use it, so if someone has used it to reset permissions could they post what options they used?
  17. OK, thanks. That worked.
  18. After using nlite, everything goes fine with my install untill it boots up. It will get past the windows logo loading screen then I will get a black screen and nothing will happen but the monitor will stay active. Normally if I shut my computer down the monitor will automatically shut itself off so I'm sure it's getting some kind of signal. Someone suggested that I should wait about 2 hours and it will login and never do that again, but I turned it on and left for the night for about 6 hours and when I came back it was still doing nothing. I have another boot partition on this computer but that works just fine, although every now and again I get a BSOD pointing to my usb drivers as the problem. I don't know if there is some correlation between that and the issue I'm having with my install disc or not. The same thing happens in safe mode, it will boot up, then that screen printing all the drivers will load then freeze on the agp440.sys system file. Anyone have any idea how to get it to login correctly?
  19. If I want to use 3rd party unsigned themes, do I select enable or disable? If I want to disable windows file protection, do I select enable or disable? It's unclear to me because should I disable the disabling of "automatic recovery of replaced ... system files" or should I enable the "automatic recovery of replaced .. system files?" I don't want to disable the enabling of unsigned themes support but I don't want to enable the disabling of them either, if you understand my confusion.
  20. 5200 ... but only for the DX9 support
  21. i think it's more of an opinion than anything else as to which you choose as neither are really better than the other ... I use ATI but I miss the nVidia control panel but that is not to say ATIs control panel stinks
  22. I have a logitech extreme 3D pro and am playing X2: the threat .... and everything was going well untill I had the bright idea to install the logitechs drivers ,,, I've uninstalled them but my ship keeps spinning ... I've tried recalibrating via the control panel but it still does it ... and I don't use this joystick that much so I doubt that the springs have come loose especially when considering the problem started when I installed logitechs drivers what I want to know is if anyone knows of a third party calibration tool that they use and/or like? There is the calibration data either in ".ini" type files or in the registry, where are they are and what values should I input to reset them?
  23. what's a good VB compiler that works with pspad? preferably freeware
