  1. well, if it's 802.11b/g/n then no, it's no good for roaming as it will have a very limited range. I don't see how you were able to connect to it without using some kind of wireless networking adaptor, to connect to wireless networks you need a wireless reciever.. I'm not sure if there is a misunderstanding or technology is different in your country, but data cards generally run of mobile/celular networks so if you are on the move then this by far beats WLAN 802.11b/g/n range
  2. that's paranoia, 802.11x wireless (or Wifi as its commonly known) does not have a great range. Chances are you have a neighbour who doesn't understand how to configure their router to be secure.
  3. is it worth spending ~£200/$300 for 2nd cpu and +2gb ram in your opinion?
  4. i just installed xp x64 on to the dell/xeon today, installed fine.. I bought the dell server thinking it could be a project, buying the 2nd cpu and maybe upgrading it to 6gb of ram - if its not going to beat my athlon then I may just sell the dell as it is..
  5. hi m8 the clock speed of the athlon is 3ghz the athlon has 6gb of cheap ddr2-800 ram, the dell has 4gb of ram, can't remember the speed (away from home at the moment too) btw - keep up the good work with wpi, I'm a very happy user
  6. I've just picked up an old dell poweredge sc1420 currently packing a single xeon 2.8 with hyperthreading, it has room for another cpu... my main pc is running an athlon dual core 6000+ is it worth me splashing out on another cpu for the dell? How would two xeon 2.8 +HT compare against a single athlon dual core 6000+ anyone have any ideas? also, as some of you will no doubt know, my prefered os is XP, I know corp can handle 2 cpu's, but will it handle 2 cpu's with HT and report/use 4 cpus? cheers for any feedback
  7. if you format c: then the files will get wiped (the nature of a format) DO NOT FORMAT. Boot computer from ME startup disk and start setup like you suggested.. C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS\setup.exe if that dont work... I don't know if it will work as it's been a very long time since I used ME, but the best option would be to burn what you think are the ME setup files on to CD, don't forget you will need to add the boot information though, there are guides on how to do that. To be able to burn files to CD without wiping the files to begin with you'll either need to install the drive as a slave in another PC or use a live boot disk with CD recording support. if you have a certificate of authenticy on the side of your computer, the easiest method would be to download a copy of the ME installation CD, but make sure you use your own serial during install.. as far as I know it's the serial which makes the install legitimate, not the disk.
  8. can get sd to ide here: http://w*w.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1698
  9. for the random restart, try checking error logs --> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic40108.html ..find the errors and post the information here, will help us help you. and your laptop, I'm guessing it will have a sata hard disk, if so you'll either need to have your sata driver on floppy, or integrate it to your xp disk
  10. it's probably some kind of image, try opening them with ultraiso or something similar.. if the recovery acts like a ghost type recovery, you'll never get vlite to take it [edit] http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q...files&meta= <-- check the 1st result
  11. prob best to start here.. http://www.msfn.org/board/search.html

  13. hi guys, I've tried a couple of searches but somehow couldn't find the information regarding playing flash moves (swf and exe's) during the gui portion of the xp setup process. Last night I was testing flash movies (in exe form) the processes started but nothing appeared. can someone point me in the right direction for playing flash movies during the setup process? t-39 ideally cheers
