    Hello

Hi Al, welcome to the forums. Sorry but I don't know where your suggestion should go, if it's to do with nLite, then I guess the nLite section of the user contributed projects sub-forum. Perhaps you could email the creator of nLite with your suggestion. All the best Jim
  2. Hello chaps, I used to use the RASOR utility to get my SATA drivers on my unattended XP CD (created using nLite). RASOR doesn't seem to be working anymore though, and I could never get SATA working without it. It's been a while since I tried to get the drivers on the disk, is it possible to do it with nLite these days? I have downloaded a rar file from Silicon Image which contains what I think are the files needed: txtsetup.oem SiWinAcc.sys SilSupp.cpl SiiSupp.vxd Si3114.sys Si3114.mpd SI3114.inf si3114.cat readme.txt So, can anyone tell me, can I use nLite to get these onto my disk? RASOR was so easy, even an id*** like me could do it, but now it's gone Thanks EDIT: I used nLite to get the SATA drivers on the unattended disk. Windows setup detected my SATA drive so I think that was all good. However, I now have another problem. I have two SATA drives and decided to do a trial run on my spare one. I deleted the partition, reformatted it and let windows setup do it's thing. It copied all the files over that it needed and proceeded to reboot my PC. I was expecting the next part of the windows installation to launch, but for some reason it hung while booting up. First time I tried it, it looked for a boot record on the CD (which it normally does) and loaded up the first part of windows setup again, asking me to do partitions and such. So I tried taking the disk out of the drive, but it just hung after searching the CD drives. Any ideas?
  3. Sorry to bring the technical level of your discussion down a bit, but can someone just tell me this... How do you implement the service tweak on this page? Is it something like copying and pasting the info in the first post and making it into a file with a certain extension - like tweaks.reg? I changed all my services manually using Blackvipers site after my last install, and I get the impression this automates the process. Can I get this integrated into my unattended install to? Where do I need to put it? Thankyou
  4. I'm sorry, but my technical knowledge isn't quite up to scratch, at least not up to any of your standards. Could someone help me with a couple of things? I downloaded the Ryan hotfix pack, and it arrives as a cab file. Do I need to extract it before I can integrate the hotfixs into my CD? Or can I just tell nLite to look at the cab file I downloaded and it will do everything from there? Second, is there a way that you can test whether or not the SATA drivers have made their way safely onto the CD without testing it for real? Virtual PC flashes the devices up so quickly in text-mode setup that I can't tell! I used RASOR to get them on there, again, as with the hotfixes, it seemed to be the easiest option! Also, with regard to the SATA drivers, should I process the ISO with nLite first? For example, should I integrate SP2, integrate hotfixes, remove components and do my tweaks... then integrate the SATA drivers, then go back into nLite and make the ISO? Finally, is it possible to put all your installation stuff onto DVD? This is a little bit of a way off in terms of my capabilities, but eventually, I aim to get windows and office and perhaps some other applications and drivers into the installation. I doubt I could fit everything onto a 700Mb CD, so is it possible to do it with DVD? If anyone could answer these little questions, I would be really grateful! Thanks all.
  5. Ok, I did a dummy run and it didnt bring up an error and it looked like it would be fine. Then I burnt the CD and tried it proper and hallelujah we are in business. It found the drive when you do the partition setup on the blue screen and provided everything works after the text setup mode, it works 100%. Thankyou so, so much! I will post again when I get round to reinstalling windows... but provisionally I can add another reported success using your program/method. James
  6. Ok I burnt the image file and tried it out. It works a treat - finds the hard drive. I haven't tested it yet fully, but I think if it gets that far, we can say it's sorted. So, TWILL, if you did happen to make the same mistake as me, simply double clicking on the driver you want within the RASOR program might be your remedy, but if you're sorted out now with another method then all well and good. Finally! I'm so happy
  7. Righty ho... No error messages in VPC, and I think I saw the words 'silicon image' fly up at the bottom. Because it's reading from the ISO image and not a CD, it all goes by so quick I can't be sure, but this is looking very promising...
  8. Hey again twill. Thanks for the replies mate. I was just wondering if you'd dome the same thing as me when trying the rasor method. We both had similar error messages so I thought this might be the case. Basically, when I selected the driver I needed within RASOR I didn't double click on it, so it didn't download - BUT the program came up with a message saying 'driver repackaged' which made me think it had worked ok. I'm just trying it again now, but if it fails I will go and research raskens method. Thanks for the help. Yea I don't blame you about the ads, we've seen half of them in this country too. In fact the British media is covering the election almost as much as they would a domestic one!
  9. Ok thanks for the quick reply trainee. I am trying to slipstream the sil3114 drivers for my seagate barracuda 80gb SATA. I didn't realise we had to make amendments to the winnt.sif file, I thought it was all pretty much automated by rasor - what do you think the problem is in my winnt.sif file? Ok hang on a sec... I think i've been incredibly stupid... I was looking at my winnt.sif file and there were like no entries at all about my SATA drive. When I used rasor, after specifying the root directory of my XP CD files, I selected the driver I needed and didn't double click! So when it said at the bottom "drivers repackaged" I thought it was all done, but it wasn't. I just re-did it making sure I double clicked to actually download the sil3114 drivers and now there are entries in my winnt.sif file. I'll try doing another dummy run through VPC. Sorry for this... I'm such a dumbo
  10. Hello all, I have just tried using RASOR after having trouble getting any of the other methods to work with my Silicon Image 3114 drivers. I got almost the exact same problem as TWILL. When I tried the ISO I made using nLite in virtual PC, this is what happens... The blue screen comes up after prompting to press F6 for 3rd party drivers, and the drivers on the cd start flashing up along the bottom. About half way through this process I get the following error message: "File caused an unexpected error (0) at line 2166 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c. Press any key to continue." After pressing any key, windows setup continues loading the other drivers from the CD. Any ideas? Thanks James
  11. TWILL I have the same problem as you. I have tried a number of the methods and in most of them, the SATA driver doesn't flash up on the bottom of the screen, and my SATA drive is not found. When I tried RASOR, I got a very similar message to you. Have you managed to resolve this problem as yet? I am using the Silicon Image 3114 driver and seem to be experiencing the same difficulties as yourself. Please let me know if you get a breakthrough. Thanks James ps don't forget to vote tomorrow
  12. Hello, Utter newb here, apologies in advance for that. I have been surfing around these forums for a few days now and my head is starting to hurt. I am getting a little confused with regard to how to integrate SATA drivers into my unattended XP install. There seems to be a number of methods to do this, and I am looking for the easiest one. It seems that on one hand, you can do it manually, which entails getting the specific driver for your SATA controller, putting it into your CD's directory structure and then amending various configuration and batch files to allow windows set-up to 'see' the driver you need. After more searching around, I found another method - downloading big driver packs and using pre-written batch files to do most of the work for you. This was appealing. However, I have tried to accomplish my task using this method and have not had success. These are the steps I took... 1. Copy contents of XP pro to hard disk. 2. Copy XP SP2 to hard disk. 3. Streamline SP2 into XP installation using nLite. 4. Integrate hotfix updates (downloaded from RyanVM's webpage). 5. Select unattended install within nLite and enter my key code etc. Now I have a new directory on my hard disk which contains everything I want my CD to contain minus the SATA drivers. I understand that having used nLite's unattended setup thingy, I can no longer press F6 to copy the SATA files over - so I have to get the SATA stuff on there. 1. I downloaded the driverpack base and all three driverpacks on bashrats page (http://www.btsunattended.net/EN/DriverPacks/index.htm). 2. Placed the driver packs inside the BTS_DriverPacks_Base_Vxxx\DriverPacks directory. 3. I followed the instructions for method 2. After the cmd file had created the directory method_2_ROOT, i copied the contents to the root directory of the folder containing my windows files as I spoke of above. I ran the RUN_ME file and pressed keys to proceed when prompted. Now I come to the bit I think I may have done wrong. I only want the SATA drivers, not the sound or lan ones. So, again I (tried) to follow the instructions in the FAQ file to the letter. I removed the two driverpack '7z' files from the OEM directory I didn't want. This was done AFTER I ran the RUN_ME file in the root directory copied over earlier. Now I edited the presetup.cmd file in the I386 folder. First of all I removed all the lines with REM in front of them. And removed the lines pertaining to the lan and sound drivers. Then I re-ran nLite and created the ISO from the folder I had been working in. I burnt the disk and rebooted. No crashes or anything, but my SATA drive wasn't listed as a possible install destination and I didn't catch anything on the bottom of the screen mentioning SATA when windows was loading the drivers. Have I missed something glaringly obvious? Or maybe I'm going about this in the wrong way. I have tried to follow all the instuctions to the letter, so I was hoping this would work. Can anyone help me? Many thanks in advance James edit: Just tried again, without removing all the lines with REM in front of them... just the two lines with the paths to the LAN and Sound folders. Still no joy.
  13. Ok, fair enough no replies as yet... Am I right in saying that a switchless installer/exe is just an installer or unpacker for an application that doesn't require any interaction from the user? Basically I want to integrate the installation of my chipset driver into the installation of windows. The drivers come in a 'pack', opened with an exe, and includes lots of other stuff too. When you run the executable, you have to specify where you want everything to be installed to etc. Just wondered if someone could clear that up for me. Thanks James
  14. Sorry, as you can tell I'm new to this. What does switchless mean and why we need switchless installers and exe's when we want to make an unattended installation? Thanks James
