  1. I was wondering if any has had similar issues and if they figured it out thanks I can build a unattended file with the windows system image manager 1 for the architecture and one for the image you associated the unattended file to. K everything works great lets say you make a small change and in the drivers path missed typed the server name, you edit (even using system image manager) save the file and kick off your install to see if it works and for some reason it kills the whole thing it is like WDS isn't even reading the .xml files anymore. Am i missing something because it is driving me nuts i have to redo the whole file if i need to make one small change? And if anyone could point me to a good document or guide on using windows 7 with 2008 r2 I would appreciate it i have built it off what I have read in the AIK and technet. I wouldn't mind reading a guide from one of these deployment specialist out there that should be designing this for MS.
  2. I was wondering how you could add vbscripts into the image and have them kick off after the install or towards the end of the install. Or even make a section in your program to add files to the image that create the $OEM$ directory to add custom scripts or files. I would like to create a dir c:\install\tools with bginfo in there, and c:\install\scripts with some vb scripts that can run during or after install. Thanks for the tool.
  3. Anyone figured out or have information on how to use the Naming Policy and Client Account Location in the Directory Services Tab of WDS for Vista? Works great for my XP installs but wont do crap with Vista or Win7. Is this a old legacy feature that has not been removed that was only designed for XP? I have a 08 server running in native mode and it has this tab and options as well so I figured they had to make it work with .wim installations but I can not figure it out or find anything on it. Thanks for any info.
  4. I am running windows server 2k3 I have old unattended files i use for windows XP (I don't use xp imgages fresh install) so I have the x86 boot option set to startrom.n12. we want to upgrade from xp to win7 using WDS but we need to be able to still XP if needed or on older equipment. Is there a way to add windows 7 to the startrom.n12 boot options? Or what are other doing that want to keep XP installs running on RIS and use WDS for Win 7? Thanks for any input.
  5. Awsome thanks i am deff going to check out Fedit, but before you posted I just ran accross this one works really slick to. http://www.safe-install.com/programs/replace-exe.html
  6. I upgraded my installs to run from winPE (loving it tons easier) but I have ran into one issue. I have a batch file that kicks off under winpe and it asks some questions to get the network connection and some diffrent install options (Like computer name and time zones). Before winpe I could use setini.exe to pipe in variables to the unattend.txt file for the timezone and machine name and then kick of the installation using the file. But the setini.exe will not run in winbe anyone know of another tool that will run under winpe that will write lines to a txt file under a section or header in the file so i can add the timezone under the GuiUnattended section and the machine name under the UserData section? Thanks. yeah i could have the bat file create the whole file but why I only need to add these 2 variables to a pre built file.
  7. Cool answered my own question Just creatd a new sif file and put the changes I needed into it. Allows me to keep only 1 install file for both types of hardware.
  8. I would love some help with this I am stuck I want to use one RIS Install for multiple types of PC's. So i started out and set it up for the Optiplex 330 which has sata harddrives in it, so I had to add the following lines to my ristndrd file to get the setup to find the harddrive. [MassStorageDrivers] "Intel® ICH9 SATA AHCIController (Desktop ICH9R)"="OEM" "Intel® 82801HEM SATA RAID Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E)"="OEM" "Intel® 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)"="OEM" "Intel® ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller"="OEM" "Intel® 82801HR/HH/HO SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH8R)"="OEM" "Intel® 631xESB/632xESB SATA RAID Controller (Server/Workstation ESB2)"="OEM" "Intel® 631xESB/632xESB SATA AHCI Controller (Server/Workstation ESB2)"="OEM" "Intel® 82801GHM SATA RAID Controller (Mobile ICH7MDH)"="OEM" "Intel® 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)"="OEM" "Intel® 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)"="OEM" "Intel® 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M/DH)"="OEM" "Intel® 82801FBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH6M)"="OEM" [OEMBootFiles] iaahci.cat iaahci.inf iaStor.sys iastor.cat iastor.inf txtsetup.oem Works great so now I move on to a older machine the Optiplex 170L and everytime after it copies its files and reboots for the text mode it would BSOD. So I took the lines out that I posted above and it works great. How can I use the ristndrd setup file for both types of machiines the 330 needs the lines to find the harddrive and the 170l looks like it crashing becasue of it. Please help I really don't want to have to have a image for the 330 and another one for the 170 would like to keep them into one image. Thanks for any help.
  9. Thanks a ton that was exactly what I was looking for.
  10. I was wondering if any has used or knows about a tool that you could run, make some changes on your computer then stop the tool and it will show you all the registry setting that where made. I would like to script a bunch of changes into an unattended install, would like to have a tool that watches what I do on the machine then gives me a list of what was changed in the registry saving me a bunch of time instead of digging through the registry looking for what I would like to change. Thanks for any suggestions.
  11. I tried this above and came out with the same results. Thaks for the suggestion.
  12. I will look into the bootsec command. thank you But I was also wondering if this could be part of the problem the hard drive is a SATA haddrive if it is unable to kick off the second part of the install maybe becaue of a hard disk driver? Well if it never boots up to windows for the text mode of the install I guess that wouldn't apply thanks for anymore suggestions going to try the bootsec command.
  13. Help with this would really be appreciated. I amm using winpe to boot up a machine via usb drive, preparing the c: drive or disk 0 then starting a xp unattended install from a network share. I boot up in winpe and go to disk part and run the following commands. Select disk 0 clean Create partition primary select partition 1 assign letter=c: active foramt fs=ntfs quick then I use a net use command to connect to the server and then run the i:\XPPro\i386\winnt32.exe /syspart:c: /unattend:i:\XPPro\unattend.txt /s:i:\XPPro\i386 It launches and goes through the inital install, after it runs it comes back to winpe cmd prompt again so I reboot for the next part of the install and this is the error i get. A disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart I read about mbr issues I have ran the mbrfix /disk 0 fismbr command and I cannot seem to get past this. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  14. I was wondering if anyone else has delt with this. I have created a windows 2000 unattended build I have a lot of laptops and traveling users that go to lots of diffrent locations throughout our company. Each site has its own subnet using the same dhcp server but if someone logs into one site and gets his IP address then and he travels to another site it dose not update or renew his address with that sits subnet. So his computer will stop communicating an till I do a ipconfig /release and / renew. Is there a fix or reg hack for somthing like this?
