  1. OK guys, I got the solution to achieve my specific task. Publisher's mail merge feature helped me and MS Word Mail merge too. At the moment I am using Publisher but in my free time I will fine tune MS Word hints. Let me summarize it Task: To create a set of labels in which contents (data) is pulled from Data source 'MyExcel.xlsx'. These labels have a layout in table ( like MS-Word tables) and each row/col pulls data from my data source. Samples in my first post. So far in MS-Word Mail merge feature has been very useful only hassle is I can't give labels a look like table structure. Publisher did the trick. Actually in publisher, I was able to create a custom page size publication as the size of my label. Then I inserted a table structure on my publication as I would in MS-Word. Then connecting with my data source using Publisher's mail merge feature I inserted individual merge fields where needed inside the table. After running mail merge I was able to print my multiple publications all combined on A4 sized page. screenshot is shown below. Each strip is a separate label ready for my task. Here is the sample: In MS-Word I was able to get similar result only problem is when I draw table on my label, subsequent mail merge was not working fine. Anyway task is done
  2. Hi there, I am struggling to learn and use mail merge option in word for a specific need. Here is the scenario: I have worksheet in excel 2010 ready with more than 20 fields in columns as shown below. there are approx 40 records in the excel table rows I want to create a self repeating label strip say 1 inch x 5 inch for all records from excel like this shown below ( sample I drew using plain table of word2010): I played a lot with creating labels of custom size in word and using mail merge to populate its fields with my excel sheet. All works fine if i am using first label in its original format (one plain box only). When i draw a table structure in my first label as shown below this table does not replicate in subsequent labels nor any next records are pulled in other labels. only first label works fine. I tried the same this in publisher but somehow could not get what I needed. Can you suggest how to get this self updating strip?
  3. OK, let me re-phrase the scenario Windows 7 x64, two admin accounts Admin-1, Admin-2, other Standard accounts. All I want is this: I need a VHD file Bitlock encrypted, mounted and accessible as F: --> Only in Admin-1 account. VHD file exists on D:\ If Admin-1 account logs in, VHD file should automatically mount as F: and should be unlocked and accessible. If any other account logs in (including Admin-2), VHD file should be locked and bitlocker asking for password. Password is known to Admin-1 only That's all I want. please suggest
  4. Hi, For some specific purpose, I have created a VHD, connected it as NTFS drive F:\ and Turned ON bit-locker on it. BitLocker is set to use password to unlock the F:\ Windows 7 Ultimate has two Admin accounts say admin-1 and admin-2. I want to keep this F:\ drive unlocked and accessible within admin-1 account only. When admin-1 logs-off or locks computer with WinKey+L the bitlocker F:\ drive must become in locked state. For any other user like admin-2, F:\ should be locked and must ask password for access. But when admin-1 re-logs-in or unlocks its computer, F:\must be accessible. I am aware bitlocker has nothing to do with user accounts and privileges. I tried the CMD batch file as: manage-bde -lock F:\ -forcedismount bat file works fine manually under admin priviliges and re-locks F:\ in any account. But I am looking same solution to happen at admin-1 log-off or computer lock. I got idea about creating a sched task to run the bat file above but I can't find any trigger to start that bat file at user log-off or computer lock. Please suggest how is it possible?
  5. HI all Since I am on learning, just a basic level question For obtaining a customized installation image for win 7 x64 Can this be done ? install a fresh copy on a specific hardware install all drivers , set all customizations etc. capture an image of this working system using IMAGEX or anything other create an installation media using this image burn to dvd take this dvd to other systems of same hardware and install it so we get all settings and drivers already installed actually I have tried rt7lite but I can't get it to install drivers like ATI and other small applications no success for me. Trying DISM and other core utilites . windows updates are integrated OK with it. drivers are still not I have got windows adk but do'nt have proper guides for it for above purpose. please suggest
  6. any ideas yet?
  7. Hi everybody How to create an appendable repository ( on my HDD) for downloaded updates ? I recently used WUD for downloading all updates into my system couple of weeks ago. for win 7 x64 sp1 using UL from WUD site. saved it in a place in my HDD and used it for my purpose. Now I noticed some new updates appearing from MS for win 7 I started again WUD application, with new UL from WUD site but now problem is it is showing me ALL updates till recent ones ready to be selected and downloaded. Is it possible that WUD checks first the download destination and skips already downloaded updates from the new UL list so I can download only newer ones ? thanks
  8. Many thanks maxXPsoft I am gonna try ADK to experiment on win 7 in my VM setup I need to custom build a win7 x64 update integrated media first then recovery things thanks for the partition tip. will try later. one more question please: I have multiple .net versions installed on my system as time to time windows updates previous one also resides there. is it safe to un-install all previous .net versions and keep the latest one only similar is the case for M$ runtime c++ , sometimes we get new versions through windows update or with other applications while old one stays there. a buddy recommended to make sure if any application is still using any previous instance of C++ runtime, if not you can un-install that stuff. But how to make this sure? thanks
  9. Thanks maxXPsoft for your opinion I am reading them out To build my custom media: I am trying to get little tools like DISM ( already available in a working win7) and ocdimg.exe and imagex and other stuff as required. So may be I would not need to download this : Windows AIK for windows 7 ( huge download) & windows AIK for win7 supplement ( another huge download ) To create a factory reset recovery media in hidden partition But how to get my custom installation media in a hidden partition and recover by press of a key? I prefer not to ghost or acronis this time. reading about http://anarethos.dyn...overy_W7W8.html So can I do it using microsoft tools, the way system builders do ? Windows ADK targeted for win 8 platform, does it offer all same features like win7 AIK to customize and deploy win 7 ? thanks
  10. Hi everybody no comments ? I just wanted to have an opinion about my workaround. Is this way as described in my first post correct or is are there any other better option to acvhieve my purpose ? thanks anyway
  11. Hi everybody My first post in this forum. I have been searching and digging a lot for days to find out a way for : 1- creating a custom install media to install win7 SP1 x64 on my system with latest updates ( need offline package up to date) and latest drivers ( I have them downloaded like ATI graphics, sound and others) injected within installation media. Self boot /install media 2- later on i need to create a hidden partition containing this ( above) media copied in it so a key press at boot time brings a new installation from media created in step-1 I found a lot of ways a- RTsevenlite ( website currently down for me ) b- vLite c- windows OPK d- windows automated installation kit. e- 7customizer .... and others I have found that most reliable and official ways to build such an image is using microsoft deployment methods using windows OPK or Windows Automated Installation kit. Windows OPK is targeted to system builders and only available to channel partners. windows AIK is for enterprise, perhaps for network deployment ( I will not be deploying over network ) windows AIK is free download ( may be under some license terms ) I can experiment and learn windows AIK for my purpose using virtual machines but I need to have two huge downloads for that matter : - The Windows® Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows® 7 KB3AIK_EN.iso 1.7 GB - The Windows® Automated Installation Kit (AIK) Supplement for Windows® 7 SP1 waik_supplement_en-us.iso 1.3 GB So I am planning to download and experiment them in a virtual machine ( to setup a VM windows and install and run WAIK in it. Then build my Custom media for windows 7 sp1 x64 for my particular system. I think of using the WAIK for later for my other win7 systems ( one or two to achieve their custom mathced installation media and boot time recovery media ) for recovery purpose I have been experimenting with GHOST and ACRONIS times back. but I wish to create a solution like a branded system recovery method. Just press a key at the bios boot time and it deploys a custom made image to bring things to factory installed state. That's all my understanding and I need advice/suggestion, am I on the right track? Should I download and go ahead for the two huge WAIK file and start playing ? Thanks
