  1. My question is not, how do I download illegal copies of software, and counterfeit windows... I am only asking how to pull information from the windows source files? If that is illegal then Nlite is illegal software because that's what it does. I am not asking anyone to advise on illegal activity, if you want me to rephrase this that is fine. but the question is how do i find out exactly what version of windows i have just by looking at the source files, so i can repair my computer?
  2. Okay so i get this problem all the time, someone brings me there gateway, dell, Hp Toshiba ect... Laptop or pc and windows can not boot. There is nothing wrong with the hardware on the machine and a simple repair install will easily fix this problem. Of course the end user does not have the operating system installation disk because either it was thrown away or the manufacturer does not want to give it to them. So yes occasionally i do go out on the internet and try to find the windows OEM source files for a dell or whatever the brand. I am sure you all know that anytime you take this route you really have no idea what you are getting, whether it is OEM, REtail, Dell, Toshiba, 64bit x86 ect... I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to kind of decipher the installation files to know exactly what i have. With Windows XP I used to run Nlite on the Source installation point and after a few seconds it would come up and tell me what version it was what service pack it had ect.. With Vlite it does not do this is asks you to specify what version you have rather than detecting it for you. Is there any program out there that can look at the source files and let me know if it is OEM or Retail, what company it is branded to, X86 or 64, Business or Ultimate ect.... ?????
  3. My company is going to upgrade to windows 7 very soon and to test this first we ordered 40 HP Pro 3000 machines that come with windows 7 professional installed and licensed. I normally like to wipe the computer when they come to be sure all of the extra garbage that we don't need is not on the machine. We are considering creating an unattended installation disk for windows 7 to accomplish this. Before when I used to use Dell machines there was a product key found inside the dell install disk in the winnt.sif file. this product key could be used on all the dell machines and never had a problem activating as long as it was a dell machine. My issue now is HP only comes with a restore disk which does not include the source files to install windows 7. The restore disk is merely a giant .wim file that is kind of similar to a ghost or acronis image. After we unboxed a few machines we used Jellybean keyfinder to take a look at the product key that was on the preinstalled operating system. the product key is different from the sticker on the side of the computer. I am hoping that this means that this key is similar to the dell product key that was universal for all dells. So my question would be how do I get the correct source files to match this product key, Could I just download the windows 7 OEM files from somewhere and this will work with the key? Has anyone every created a unattended disk for HPs? What are your experiences or tips? and we can't just get a site license which would be 100 times easier financially it doesn't make sense for us.
  4. I am having an Issue with the autologon, when the welcome screen appears almost immediately after that i get a message that says: The system can not log you on. Make sure the username and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed in the correct case. I don't understand this because this is the first time it tries to log on after the install, why would it no be able to recognize the password that i put in the winnt.sif file?? I tried the password with quotes and without quotes, neither were successful. I am trying to have it log on with the local administrator account. My password does have the " $ " character in it and has it some Caps and some Small letters and 1 number, would this make a difference? I tried even putting no password in as the password and I get the same result, I also tried abcd1234 with no success. HELP Im kinda frustrated with this !! Thank you!!! Also when i try to type the password in manually it doesn't work either WTF?? 5. Everytime i run my unattended setup windows wants a data location to install the monitor. The strangest thing is that doesnt even need to point to anywher specific all i have to do is to tell it to let windows install automaticly and then it installs perfectly fine. I am trying to get rid of the prompt so that my cd will be fully unattended anyon know why windows is prompting me to install the monitor??
  6. yes all of my users are restricted users, I was trying to avoid them having to be power users. Why would this be part of the problem. I searched google dry and i couldnt find out any information as to why my users would be removed
  7. Okay here is the deal. I have a special program called "AR" that needs full control of 2 folders on all of the local client machines. What i did was i used a logon script and logged onto all of the computers and it added this group called ARUSERS to those folders with full controll. Then i goto my server and add whoever needs access to the AR program to the ARUSERS group this works fine for about a half day then for some strange reason I come in the next day and all of my users get removed from the group????? weird huh ? this happened to me 5 times already. please help !!!
  8. I found out that it is under add and remove programs and if i Actually navigate to C:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe works just fine. However the icon on the sceen that windows puts on the desktop by default behaves this way only. Also another funny this happens i tried downloading IE 6.1 and reinstalling it to fix the problem. When i execute the setup program it says "Another instance of this program requires a reboot can not start installation" So I reboot the machine and and it says this everytime i try to run the IE6.1 setup. I even tried rebooting like 5 times, still get the same error..?? Well anyways i did fix the problem by recopying my I386, I guess sometimes after you use the same installation point after a while some files may become corrupt. what do you guys think ?
  9. Problem is that i work at a school and the kids have to have IE because of the apps that I run here. Maybee I should just recopy my I386, but then i will have to go back and slipstream sp2 again any other suqestions
  10. for some reason after i run my unattended install Cd Strangly after i double click on Internet explorer to get out to the internet, It is asking me to choose a program to run this file (Like to what happens when you right click a file and do an "Open With") I cant even pick internet explorer program it is missing from the list. I am just curious as to what in the world happend to my cd why in the world it never install internet explorer correctly?
  11. Ahh yeah I dont think that there is much Comp for this one at all No Contest GEORGE CARLIN EASILY BLOWS ANY COMEDIAN AWAY reason :(he doesnt do the easy comedy like everyone else his comedy actually requires a real brain)
  12. Well Anyways I RE Slipstremed sp2 and now some of the files that i mentioned before that was missing in the I386 folder is now there sp2.cab decided to show up in the I386 folder now ! However SVCPACK.DL_ is still out to lunch and is not showing up in I386. I think that it is the SVCPACK.DL_ that is giving me the problem so let me try to slipstream one more time and see what happens
