  1. My question is not, how do I download illegal copies of software, and counterfeit windows... I am only asking how to pull information from the windows source files? If that is illegal then Nlite is illegal software because that's what it does. I am not asking anyone to advise on illegal activity, if you want me to rephrase this that is fine. but the question is how do i find out exactly what version of windows i have just by looking at the source files, so i can repair my computer?
  2. Okay so i get this problem all the time, someone brings me there gateway, dell, Hp Toshiba ect... Laptop or pc and windows can not boot. There is nothing wrong with the hardware on the machine and a simple repair install will easily fix this problem. Of course the end user does not have the operating system installation disk because either it was thrown away or the manufacturer does not want to give it to them. So yes occasionally i do go out on the internet and try to find the windows OEM source files for a dell or whatever the brand. I am sure you all know that anytime you take this route you really have no idea what you are getting, whether it is OEM, REtail, Dell, Toshiba, 64bit x86 ect... I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to kind of decipher the installation files to know exactly what i have. With Windows XP I used to run Nlite on the Source installation point and after a few seconds it would come up and tell me what version it was what service pack it had ect.. With Vlite it does not do this is asks you to specify what version you have rather than detecting it for you. Is there any program out there that can look at the source files and let me know if it is OEM or Retail, what company it is branded to, X86 or 64, Business or Ultimate ect.... ?????
  3. My company is going to upgrade to windows 7 very soon and to test this first we ordered 40 HP Pro 3000 machines that come with windows 7 professional installed and licensed. I normally like to wipe the computer when they come to be sure all of the extra garbage that we don't need is not on the machine. We are considering creating an unattended installation disk for windows 7 to accomplish this. Before when I used to use Dell machines there was a product key found inside the dell install disk in the winnt.sif file. this product key could be used on all the dell machines and never had a problem activating as long as it was a dell machine. My issue now is HP only comes with a restore disk which does not include the source files to install windows 7. The restore disk is merely a giant .wim file that is kind of similar to a ghost or acronis image. After we unboxed a few machines we used Jellybean keyfinder to take a look at the product key that was on the preinstalled operating system. the product key is different from the sticker on the side of the computer. I am hoping that this means that this key is similar to the dell product key that was universal for all dells. So my question would be how do I get the correct source files to match this product key, Could I just download the windows 7 OEM files from somewhere and this will work with the key? Has anyone every created a unattended disk for HPs? What are your experiences or tips? and we can't just get a site license which would be 100 times easier financially it doesn't make sense for us.
  4. I am having an Issue with the autologon, when the welcome screen appears almost immediately after that i get a message that says: The system can not log you on. Make sure the username and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed in the correct case. I don't understand this because this is the first time it tries to log on after the install, why would it no be able to recognize the password that i put in the winnt.sif file?? I tried the password with quotes and without quotes, neither were successful. I am trying to have it log on with the local administrator account. My password does have the " $ " character in it and has it some Caps and some Small letters and 1 number, would this make a difference? I tried even putting no password in as the password and I get the same result, I also tried abcd1234 with no success. HELP Im kinda frustrated with this !! Thank you!!! Also when i try to type the password in manually it doesn't work either WTF?? 5. Everytime i run my unattended setup windows wants a data location to install the monitor. The strangest thing is that doesnt even need to point to anywher specific all i have to do is to tell it to let windows install automaticly and then it installs perfectly fine. I am trying to get rid of the prompt so that my cd will be fully unattended anyon know why windows is prompting me to install the monitor??
  6. yes all of my users are restricted users, I was trying to avoid them having to be power users. Why would this be part of the problem. I searched google dry and i couldnt find out any information as to why my users would be removed
  7. Okay here is the deal. I have a special program called "AR" that needs full control of 2 folders on all of the local client machines. What i did was i used a logon script and logged onto all of the computers and it added this group called ARUSERS to those folders with full controll. Then i goto my server and add whoever needs access to the AR program to the ARUSERS group this works fine for about a half day then for some strange reason I come in the next day and all of my users get removed from the group????? weird huh ? this happened to me 5 times already. please help !!!
  8. I found out that it is under add and remove programs and if i Actually navigate to C:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe works just fine. However the icon on the sceen that windows puts on the desktop by default behaves this way only. Also another funny this happens i tried downloading IE 6.1 and reinstalling it to fix the problem. When i execute the setup program it says "Another instance of this program requires a reboot can not start installation" So I reboot the machine and and it says this everytime i try to run the IE6.1 setup. I even tried rebooting like 5 times, still get the same error..?? Well anyways i did fix the problem by recopying my I386, I guess sometimes after you use the same installation point after a while some files may become corrupt. what do you guys think ?
  9. Problem is that i work at a school and the kids have to have IE because of the apps that I run here. Maybee I should just recopy my I386, but then i will have to go back and slipstream sp2 again any other suqestions
  10. for some reason after i run my unattended install Cd Strangly after i double click on Internet explorer to get out to the internet, It is asking me to choose a program to run this file (Like to what happens when you right click a file and do an "Open With") I cant even pick internet explorer program it is missing from the list. I am just curious as to what in the world happend to my cd why in the world it never install internet explorer correctly?
  11. Ahh yeah I dont think that there is much Comp for this one at all No Contest GEORGE CARLIN EASILY BLOWS ANY COMEDIAN AWAY reason :(he doesnt do the easy comedy like everyone else his comedy actually requires a real brain)
  12. Well Anyways I RE Slipstremed sp2 and now some of the files that i mentioned before that was missing in the I386 folder is now there sp2.cab decided to show up in the I386 folder now ! However SVCPACK.DL_ is still out to lunch and is not showing up in I386. I think that it is the SVCPACK.DL_ that is giving me the problem so let me try to slipstream one more time and see what happens
  13. Boondock Saints !!! Awsome Movie !! I actually have never used Nlite at all, no particular reason is there an advantage to using it ?
  14. Can you send that email to a different address because i can not get to my Hotmail from where i am currently at sorry.. dorbend@dadeschools.net
  15. I do have the win51ip.SP2 in the root of the CD SP2.CAT & SVCPACK.IN_ I do have in I386 sp2.cab & SVCPACK.DL_ I don not have in I386 ?? Svcpack.dl_ sounds like the one that windows is yelling about. Is it safe to try to find a copy of it and just copy it in there ?
  16. For some reason I tried the Google Gods and they could not find much on this particular problem either, that is usually the first thing that i check. I have got my XPCD to work perfectly fine without the service pack 2. After i Silpstreamed exactly the way that the Msfn unattended install guide told me too. I even started my whole CD over again to make sure i wasnt doing anything wrong and i still get the same problem. The only thing that i did differently was that i did not install the SP2 hotfixes because i could not get them to download from microsft for some strange reason. So i figured i will leave them out and install them later. I tried to contact Dell about the problem but they told me that they do not support cusotmizing windows, slipstreaming or anything of that nature,(that basicly means that they dont know jack Sh#$). In desperation i even tried creating a blank svcpack.dll file into the I386 folder thinking that maybee windows will just copy the blank file and not prompting me to skip, cancle but no dice, still got the exact same error. Thank you so much for the responce I dont feel so abandoned now!
  17. I love this site and i always seem to get very quick responces and very helpfull answers, by far the brains from people that belong to this forum blow every other form that ive belonged to away easily ! ! I am having some trouble understanding why nobody wants to reply to this particular question though. I have posted this question 3 times on different times and nothing, not one reply?? am i missing something ?? IS this a dumb question is that why nobody replys?? I highly doubt that I stumped everyone in this forum. I am so close to completing my cd and this one thing is KILLING ME !! please help !! Here is the original question For some reason after i slipstreamed service pack 2 into my I386 folder now everytime i goto install the o.s i get an errorin the dos portion of the XP setup that says Setup can not copy the file: svcpack.dll to retry press enter.... esc. to ski..blah blah Do I even need this file ? I tried searching the msfn forums and the only thing that was sort of realated was someone talking about this happining with Dell Oem cds which i am using(but no solution) Does anyone know about this issue? Also i noticed that the file svcpack.dll is not in my I386 directory.. Now i know that is probably why it can not copy it because its not there but i thought durring the installation process the files get extracted from cabs then copied confused.gif Well if i do need this file how can i get the correct svcpack.dll for SP2?? I want to get this fixed because it makes my whole project non automatic, because i have to hit (esc,Enter..) in order for the setup to continue. I dont mind skipping the file because it works fine without it as far as i can see. can i automate skipping files ? Any solutions ?
  18. Never mind I found it Automate Installation If you need to install UltraVNC on a large number of computers, you might consider automating the installation. The following commandline parameters can be passed to the setup: /dir="Dirname" Sets installation directory to Dirname . /norestart Suppresses a reboot at the end of the installation. Not required since the installation no longer requires a reboot. /silent or /verysilent Suppresses either pop-up of dialog boxes or any GUI at all. /loadinf="Filename" Loads the configuration file Filename for the installation. This configuration file can be generated by going through setup with UltraVNC-xxxx-Setup.exe /saveinf="Filename". Filename should be fully qualified. /log Writes a log file to the Temp directory. Could be used for debugging.
  19. Does anyone know what you have to do to plug the password in Ultravnc automaticly without using Nlite?
  20. All i did was change the Auto logon time to = 3 and it worked perfect ! thanks !!
  21. Okay im going to try be back in 5 minutes So does the asp.net account prevent the adminsitrator from autologging
  22. YEs i do have asp.net after i logon ith administrator, does he need to be removed for this to work, I am running Windows XP, and im not sure how to edit my post to take my key out
  23. After finalizing installation screen in the gui setup of XP My computer reboots and then when it boots back up it askes me for the administrator password.
