I recently installed iTunes 10.7 (thanks to blackwingcat) on my PC which uses Windows Server 2000 for the Operating System. Within the last 2 weeks I have changed the way I connect to the Internet. Previously, I was connected by a wireless USB Modem which I shared (using Internet Connection Sharing) to the router via LAN cable from 1 of th LAN ports on my PC so that its wirless signal could be used by my Iphone 3GS. The App Store application, on the iPhone, could recgonise the Internet Connection even though at that stage I had not yet created an Apple ID. iTunes 10.7 would display the following 2 messages when started. However, iTunes, on the PC, could see that the iPhone was connected to my PC as can be seen in the following image. Now, I am connected to the Internet by a LAN cable to a router of the Internet Cafe around the corner. The cable is plugged into one of the LAN ports on my PC. This Internet connection is shared (using Internet Connection Sharing) to my second LAN port which is connected by cable to the Internet Port of my router. iTunes, on the PC, still displays the same 2 messages when it starts. However, the App Store application, on the iPhone, can no longer recognise an Internet connection even though Mobile Safari can. When I try to access the Help feature of iTunes 10.7 on the PC I get the message "iTunes Help is unavailable because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet". Trying to run the Diagnostic feature, under the Help menu, to test the Network Connectivity produces the following of which I have informed blackwingcat. I clicked on the Cancel button which produced the following. I clicked on the Break button which produced the following. I clicked on the Show Disassembly button which produced the following. When I stopped the Debugging the following was displayed. I clicked on the Yes button. I have done some searching online and I have tried the following to no avail. Setting Security to Default for the Internet Options and Stopping the Bonjour Service. I don't want to try "netsh winsock reset" yet because I also read that it can cause problems. Apple Software Update was able to find an update for QuickTime The LAN Settings dialogue shows that "Automatically detect settings" is checked for Automatic Configuration and that there is no Proxy Server being used. Is this a Firewall problem as I have read elsewhere? There are no Firewall options I can see in my Control Panel. If it's a Firewall problem, I may not be able to know what the situation is with the Internet Cafe until Monday. Does anybody have any other ideas? Thanks, Michael.

Hi BlackWingCat, After downloading and installing the Windows Updates, the following are the results of my 2nd attempt to install iTunes 10.7. When the following message was displayed I clicked on the Ignore button. The following shows the next Error message that was displayed. I clicked on the Ignore button. For the following error message, I clicked on the Cancel button. For the following message, I clicked on the Yes button. The following was the next Error message to be displayed. I clicked on the Ignore button. Then, the following message was displayed. The next thing to be displayed was the initial dialogue window, "Welcome to iTunes", for the installation of iTunes. After clicking on the Next button, I then selected the D: drive for the installation. My Installation Options were as follows. After clicking on the Install button, an error message indicated that the Bonjour Service failed to register. I clicked on the Ignore button. Why is iTunes trying to install Bonjour when setupit.cmd is already trying to install it before iTunes is installed? Or, why is setupit.cmd installing Bonjour before iTunes? Please answer these questions about Bonjour. Again, a message was displayed indicating that the Bonjour Service had failed to start. I clicked on the Cancel button. For the following message, I clicked on the Yes button. The iTunes installation was then rolled back and then the following was displayed. For the benefit of others who may need this information in the future, I have the following update. Last night, I decided to follow my instincts. My plan was to remove the Installations downloaded by Automatic Updates and then let the Windows Update web page apply the updates instead. Using PKZIP, I backed up all the KBxxxxxx Log files in "C:\WINNT\" and the Installation Folders and Files in "C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download", created since BITS 2.0 was installed, to another Drive to make more space free on my C: Drive partition. Deleting these from the C: Drive would free up around 385MB of space. However, after deleting the Folders and Files from the aforementioned locations, I discovered that by clicking on the "+" icon to the left of the Update, on the web page, that the Web Page had already seen and recognised the Installations download by Automatic Updates as can be seen in the following image. This makes sense, when you think about it, because that page is using an ActiveX Control which allows it to determine what updates have been downloaded and/or installed. So, I need to restore the files and folders I have deleted to allow the Web Page to function correctly which still leaves me faced with a lack of space for allowing the Updates to be applied. However, I have found an Adobe Reader installation, within "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data", that can be removed which will free up about 112MB of space. Also, I found some Outlook Express files, that can be backed up, which will free up another 188MB. Will the extra 300MB of space I have found be sufficient to complete the download and installation of the Updates? I also want to get "Apple Software Update", iPod and iTunes off the C: Drive and installed elsewhere. If BlackWingCat's installation software can't achieve this because by default, as possibly poorly designed by Apple, they are installed on the C: Drive, could I manually move the files from "C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update", "C:\Program Files\iPod" and "C:\Program Files\iTunes" to another Drive and update the Registry manually for entries such as '"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /open "%L"'? The reason it is so full is because of installations, including iTunes, that don't give you the choice to select the installation location. Before I started the iTunes and Updates installations, I had around 800MB of free space not including the paging file but that's beside the point at the moment. I need answers to the questions I have already posted above because even if I could free up enough space, and how much space is required for the Automatic Updates is unknown, what do I do about the Updates that have been downloaded but failed to be installed? Did they fail because of lack of space? According to the Guide to installing and updating Windows 2000 Professional, 286.3MB is possibly required to complete the Updates. Thank you, Michael

Whenever I make space available on the C: Drive, the Automatic Updates service starts downloading updates again. I have now been able to access the Custom button on the Web Page for Windows Update. Could not being able to do this, before, also be related to the lack of space on my C: Drive partition? Clicking on the Custom button has updated the page to the following. However, because the Automatic Updates service restarted the Downloads, the Disk Free Space is now only 4.10MB and the Automatic Updates service has once again stopped. The following image shows the properties for the Automatic Updates service. Should I disable the Automatic Updates service and remove all the newly added Installation Folders, except the one for KB842773, from "C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download" (see image below) and then proceed with the High Priority Updates from the Web Page? Since the Restart required to complete the Update for BITS 2.0, as noted in Post #37, the Web page for Windows Update now appears as follows. iTunes still displays the following errors when I start it. Except for KB842773 (BITS 2.0), since the Restart yesterday, I see no other updates added to the "Add/Remove Programs" applet of the Control Panel. Neither do they appear in the Registry under the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" key. So, once again, based on what I have seen in the Log files, including the ReportingEvents.log, it would appear that some, or all, of the associated updates need to be downloaded again and/or manually installed via executing the "update.exe" file in the associated "update" sub-directory of "C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download"? As an example, for KB954600, I have the following in "C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download\094cb48add2362622ba4c3293b5a2f17". I have added it to the Zip file for the KBxxxxxx Log Files. Based on what I have seen in the above Log files, including the ReportingEvents.log, it would appear that some, or all, of the associated updates need to be downloaded again and/or manually installed via executing the "update.exe" file in the associated "update" sub-directory of "C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download"? Hi Tomas, I guess it should be ok to backup those folders to a CD and remove them so that I can continue with downloading the other updates BUT how do I determine if the updates already downloaded have been successfully installed? How do I determine if BITS 2.0 and the other updates have already been installed successfully? Should I disable Automatic Updates from within Services? Dziekuje, Michael.

Hi Tomas, When you say "run Windows Update again", what are you referring to exactly? Do I need to do this via the Web Page using IE6? What do I do about all the updates that have already been downloaded? Including KB842773.log (BITS 2.0), there have been 65 KBxxxxxx.log files added to the C:\WINNT directory. There is also a WindowsUpdate.log file. You can access these Log files at KB842773 and Windows Update Log Files. There are some other Log files added to the C:\WINNT directory also. I now only have 1.44MB of free space on the C: Drive. In C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download I have 122 Folders with names like "016cb1ce5eb7622393538b174c6c2b81". This folder, for example, is associated with KB979482 for which there is a corresponding file KB979482.log in the C:\WINNT directory. I thought that the installation for BITS 2.0 should have been completed when the PC restarted? KB842773 is associated with Folder "2df262951fee58e0e7c7661d080332a8" in C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download. Folder "2df262951fee58e0e7c7661d080332a8" contains the following folders and files. Hi Tomas and BlackWingCat, Below is the progress I have achieved today. After completing Step 5.7 of "B. COMPONENTS REQUIRED TO ACCESS WINDOWS UPDATE", I started IE6 and loaded the MS Windows Update page with the result you can see in the following image. At this point the Automatic Updates Applet in Control Panel displays the following. I then installed the rootsupd.inf file. When the Security Warning appeared I checked the Checkbox for "Always trust content from Microsoft Windows Component Publisher" and, then, clicked on the Yes button. Was I supposed to see any dialogue windows after this? I have noticed that there is an Icon, for Automatic Updates in the Taskbar as seen in the following image, which indicates that "Updates are ready for your computer ...". When I Right-Clicked on this icon the following window for "Automatic Updates" appeared. It only indicates that 1 Update has been found. I then reloaded the MS Windows Update page and got a successful result. At this point the Automatic Updates Applet in Control Panel still displays the same as above with all the Option Buttons disabled. Why are they disabled? I clicked on the Custom button on the MS Windows Update page to see what was available. The page was updated to the following. I could now see where the "Download and Install Now" button, previously referred to in the instructions, was. When I clicked on the Details icon on the above page, the page was updated as follows. I clicked on the "Download and Install Now" button after which the following windows were displayed. After the Restart, I am still getting the Entry Point Not Found message for the iPod Service and the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon still displays the same status for the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. Hi Tomas, Help! My C: Drive is almost full. There are a lot of Folders being added to "C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download". How can I stop the Automatic Updates from Downloading? Automatic Updates has Quit but probably only because I now only have 1.98MB of Free Space on my C: Drive. I had got as far as the First Step of C. UPDATING WINDOWS 2000 COMPONENTS and had restarted the PC. I will give you a full update, later, of the procedures I have followed and their results. Thanks, Michael.

In IE6SP1, I get the following. And also the following Page Errors. I found the following updates for IE6SP1. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=5427 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=16313 After applying the first update, above, I do not get the Page Errors anymore. What version of IE are you using to access http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6? Does the IE6SP1 (http://www.jcu.edu.au/pub/Microsoft/ie/6.0sp1/), referred to in Guide to Installing and Updating Windows 2000 Professional, include these updates? IEXPLORE.EXE, on my PC, has a datestamp of 2002-08-29, its version number is 6.0.2800.1106 and size is 91,136 bytes. Should my next step be to start with 5.4 of "B. COMPONENTS REQUIRED TO ACCESS WINDOWS UPDATE"? Hi BlackWingCat and Tomas, I have installed "the "Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 – v2" but only one improvement has occurred. Now, I do not get the following message when I attach the iPhone to the USB port. However, the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon still appears in the Task Manager bar and Double-Clicking on it produces the same results as before. After I Logon to Windows, I still get the following message displayed regarding the iPod Service. When I start iTunes, I still get the following messages. I have tried to activate "Automatic Updates" for "Windows Update" but have not been successful. When I Double-Click on the icon, in Control Panel, for "Automatic Updates" the following is displayed. I have tried the instructions, at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2497281, but nothing has been achieved with those. My version of wuauclt.exe is 5.4.3630.2554. I found the following page and followed the instructions there but still nothing positive. I did not need to make any changes to the Registry. Bud's Troubleshooter Thanks to the following page, I found that the "Automatic Updates" service was disabled. Access Denied. Please Check With Your System Admin. After I started the "Automatic Updates" service, the System Properties still appear as follows with no Tab for "Automatic Updates". My Group Policy configuration is as follows.
